I was reading some of the other threads and I was impressed with how many out-of-state people are going to Wakarusa. I grew up in Topeka, so it kinda makes me proud that something like this is going on in the area. But I also started wondering how everyone heard about the festival--did they do any advertising, or was it just spread by word of mouth on internet bulletin boards and stuff?

I believe my wife found out about it on the jamboard forum.

I saw it on Jambase a couple weeks after I bought tickets to Bonnaroo. The Bonnaroo tickets went on eBay that week and I bought Waka tickets as soon as they sold.

I'm a wee bit foggy on this...It may have been the JamBase Festival Guide, the Central Plains Jamband Society web-site, or a Festifarian dream!!!!
See y'all in a few...

I knew before it was ever announced :P It was a rumor for a little while here in lawrence.. maybe a month or 2 before it was announced... but the rumor was they were trying to get SCI or The Dead to headline.. too bad that never happened, but I read another post here, about an article in the paper where they said next year they will look at getting a main headliner.. Also didnt know it was going to be as big as it is now.. just amazing 8)

I heard the buzz around KC and saw flyers at the coffee shop, and although it took me a couple of years to break away from the corporate cult, I was finally set free!

I'm trying to remember exactly. A friend of a friend of mine is a local glass blower in lawrence, and told my buddy. Then I saw Split Lip was playing,.. and i think i was sold,.. Ive been to every Wakarusa Festival since it started, so its kinda hard to remember all the details. So my consensus would be, I heard about Wakarusa through word of mouth. Peace yall.. I havent posted in awhile but lets not give up on this festival.

A kid I worked with (and only knew for about a week) had free day passes from one of the vendors, so I went along. This was 2004, so if I remember correctly, I think the vendor said they were each given 10 day passes to give out to help spread the word. We had a great time and I've been back every year since!
