I am in no matter what, but I have some friends who normally go to Waka that are looking really hard at other fests after seeing the initial line-up. Hopefully Waka makes some moves soon to help change their minds!

that seems a bit early to me. I wasn't expecting the next announcement until mid February... but I hope its sooner.

i would think it'll be a month or so after the initial announcement

I think we will see a few more big names but not alot of major headliners. I sometimes think people ask way too much? I would love to see Panic announced, but if it meant less overall talent, then I'd have to pass. I'm pretty sure alot of people on this board don't understand how much it costs for some of these big name headliners they are requesting?

^heavy rumors of Panic in Little Rock around April. I dont think they would play twice in Arkansas in 3 months...

Just something else to think about.

I still think we will get another boneshaker.

Yeah I've heard those rumors and they are more than likely true. Wakarusa has never really let us down, I don't have the feeling the will this year. I was just saying I would rather have the opportunity to see 50 to 60 really good bands than see 20 really good bands and an overpriced headlining act.

where are you getting your rumors?
anyother info?
Dallas? OKC? Tulsa?

I would expect to see a major price hike and the layaway option on your ticket if the headliners that have been suggested in other threads were to play. In this time of economic hardship I would hate to see a major headliner announced and Waka take another blow on low attendance that would jeopardize the festivals future existence (RIP 10K).

I dont think DMB was the best choice last year...

just wondering what the Lou did to Panic. Use to play two times a year...once at the Fox which is a great place to play and see a show and one at riverport. That was three+years ago and they have not been back. What have we done????

Time frame?

From the main page, click on NEWS in the upper left and scroll down to see last year's timing.

The second round came more than two weeks later with Claypool and Matisyahu, etc.
The last round was more than a month after the initial and had Black Crowes, Mule and Shpongle.

From the Mosiman interview, the strategy on headliners changed with the move to a less urban venue: http://consequenceofsound.net/2010/01/14/cos-interview-brett-mosiman-co-founder-of-the-wakarusa-music-and-camping-festival/

...as great as our location is, it’s very remote... Probably a few less of the Ben Folds and Flaming Lips of the world because we won’t do any single day things, but it’ll still be an amazingly diverse line up of over 100 bands and six stages...

I understand and agree with the point you are making. Spend money wisely and gives us lots of good bands to pick from.

However, in reality, you can't see 50 bands, so I would rather have the 20 really good bands and a big headliner-- if that were the choice. And we ain't nowhere close to that yet.

I guess what I was trying to say is that even if some of the mentioned headliners would be announced, it's still not going to please everyone. Which in my book is a damn shame!

Wakarusa has yet to let me down on talent over the years. I haven't really been into some of the headliners over the years, but still found myself raging at one of the many stages.

Each year, I try to see as many acts as possible throughout the weekend, it's not that hard to witness 40 to 50 acts if you make your rounds over five days. Granted I come home from the festival all chewed up and with larger calf muscles, but it's always worth it!

yeah there are still quite a few bands to be listed, so i wouldnt be surprised if they put some more out in the next few weeks. i wouldnt mind seeing another big headliner, but id mainly prefer to see some mid tier bands added, and bands that ive never even heard of. i like the exposure to new stuff that a festival provides

here are 13 really good bands and this is only the first announcement. Wakarusa will never be bonnaroo with huge headliner after huge headliner because wakarusa is a grass roots festival. If you want corporate-fest you know where to buy tickets but if you want to feel like your home waka is the place for you, next announcement in feb I think

* STS9
* The Disco Biscuits
* John Butler Trio
* Blues Traveler
* Dweezil Zappa Plays Zappa
* Railroad Earth
* JJ Grey & MOFRO
* Lotus
* ALO
* Tea Leaf Green
* Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk
* EOTO
* Split Lip Rayfield

You know who we've never had at Waka that would be cool?

My Morning Jacket

Those guys tear it up live, I don't know if they're playing shows currently with Jim James doing the Monsters of Folk stuff, but I would imagine that they would be a more reasonably priced headliner, who knows. They were my favorite show of the season at Red Rocks 2 summers ago, just a raging, raw and impressive 3+ hour show.

I was just thinking MMJ would be an awesome addition. I've always wanted to see them live.

And for the love of god... bring the Black Keys!

As far as big headliners go, from my experience they are the sole reason I got involved with the festival scene. In '07 a friend of mine was a huge Franti fan and brought me to my first Waka show... stayed for Claypool. In '08 I got another single day pass to see the Flaming Lips and had the most amazing concert experience of my life. I came for the whole weekend last year and fell in love with Waka. I'm bringing several friends with me this year and this never would have happened if I hadn't been enticed by a couple big bands that I really wanted to see years ago.

So, I wouldn't discredit the value of some larger acts. The right ones bring the right people who will probabaly keep coming back.

TV on the radio would be one hell of a show that is for sure.
Love that album "dear, science".

Phish's cover of golden age on this last tour was THE cover of the tour.

Personally I would like the additions of some more jamming bands though, maybe some Galactic, Umphreys, Pgroove(who is in fayetteville tonight) and YMSB.
