Lawrence drum circle was explosive a few years back.

Mulberry circle was fun, but not nearly as packed. Lets bring the vibe up to Lawrence potential, or beyond.

Bring your drum.

Lets make noise.

I know you like noise.

Place of beatz appointment pending.

Mrs is looking over my shoulder saying she wants to drum at Waka this year, just need a place and a time. We will make some noise!

I think we need another drum circle, but late at night, no more of this 10am nonsense, some may be just going to sleep, but very few are rising that early. I've told myself I would be there every year, and marked it on my schedule, but always seem to be too tired. Drum circles are a midnight bonfire affair, that is one thing that Camp Zoe figured out that makes so much more sense. It's a great way to wind down after all the music, especially those who aren't into the late night electronic stuff.

And I'm thinking it should be lead by Domingo Ortiz, Todd Nance and/or Michael Travis

I have to leave my beloved djembe at home every year since it'd be too tough to take on the plane.

So happy she's coming with me now that I'm a lot closer to the mountain!

Hmmm. Well. I had a baby drum circle last year spawn from the forum. So maybe it could work again. Unless people just end up finding each other at the fest, which is highly probable. The occasion is usually a morning collective. It was biggest in Lawrence with about 150 people + and all sorts of drums. On Mulberry there was about 25 + kiddycats. The guy who started it had a snare and kept this bad ass rhythm. He must have gotten word somehow. Anyway. Lets keep sharing ideas. This is the place to do it before the fest starts up.

You ought to see what the people on the coachella board was saying to a lass from canada that asked if it was ok for her to bring a djembe. It was actually pretty funny to think that there are people that are that uptight. cr*****

Wow Ron, you weren't lying! Holy hell that was ridiculous. Sure glad this board isn't like that at all. I can say with confidence I wouldn't be here if it was. Of course most of you probably wouldn't be either. Well done helping her out though.

And yes. Pants on the ground.

Holy crap. Those people are haters like no others. I dont get it though...a music festival with no hippies in california? People actually get angry that theres drumming going on? Screw ****chella. Does not sound like a place to have fun at.

Once a time schedule pops up Ill plan a few baby drum circles. Hopefully it won't attract people who appreciate giving people shyt. I haven't had trouble with circles in the past at Waka.

Oh my...I read that too! I told her she come check out the Waka board and the whole festival for that matter. Since we welcome the djembe! Just embarrassing and ruthless!

Has anyone seen a hang drum at wakarusa before? I've always wanted to hear one in person but they're not exactly common. If anyone that reads this has one they're bringing I would love to trek over and just try it out :)

I agree-who in their right mind would want to to go to a festival which a bunch of A Holes! I am sure there are some sweet ones but I would have my head on a swivel at all times-since I am what they hate!

Yeah. I don't wanna have to be looking over my shoulder to see if someones coming at me with a hammer the whole time Im drumming. The whole collective beat of that fest seems like it wouldn't allow for much "freedom" if you catch my meaning. I want to see people having fun and enjoying themselves, not mad-talking up something just cause they're on the outside looking in. Lame-Os.

Bongo Barry and Brandon Draper (from organic proof) used to facilitate the drum circles (adult and children's) but unfortunately Barry passed away and I'm not sure what Brandon's been up to. There definitely needs to be a drum circle!

Who are these cats? :p

I was gonna do some light early morning ones close to the stages that I was planning on attending music at. I'm a morning person, but I'm down for late night drumming so long as it doesn't interfere with my WAKA schedule. Now that we know what time everything is playing at, who feels like maybe a baby, or two, per day? Up until the major one on Sunday. I have that much energy. WAKARUSA keeps me raging non-stop, and even if its just with 1 or a few other drummers, I will hold the machinations of our dUm-tekking steady as a temptation for others to bring their drums(the more the merrier :) ). The thing about last year however, is that any plans you make about drumming at a stage are going to be drowned out. The stages usually have loud music playing and I couldn't get a successful circle at the Backwoods last year. Anyhow. If your down, let me know and Ill make it very obvious for people pokin around with drums hangin from their sides. (Or on top of their heads).

Sooo... as far as planning goes I was thinking:
Thursday between Revival and Outpost before Fatty Lumpkin around 11am? If anyone attended the drum circle there last year then its basically in the same spot, or in that wee patch of land.

Friday right outside of Backwoods stage in the hammocks area Friday morning before Funk-O-Tron. Say 10am? Probably also going to warm the boys up, at least the drummers, for their set at Backwoods that morning.

Saturday morning I'm at the Chomp. And I don't really see a feasible time for this day. So skip out on Saturday.

Sunday is the WAKA planned Drum Circle at the Satellite stage. I hope to see all you drummers there?

Any other ideas? Does this stretch anyone?

Is anyone out there? :D

Sweet. Your the most enthustiastic voice I've heard in weeks. I just sat out on my porch this morning tuning my djembe. Took me about an hour cause its a rope tightened head. Was fun though.

On the note of Coachella that's been mentioned in this thread, watch this video:

Funny to watch, yes. But I would have helped that guy! And the kicker is, that girl looked like such a b*tch when the guy bumped into her. Good vibes Waka friends, we're all about good vibes...

Sorry to digress from you drumming topic, Wartockman.

Drum on.

Maybe the guy who brought one to rothbury last year will come to waka. I was very happy to be able to hear and play one.

Try spoons? Doesn't have to be a drum. I got to rhythm out a tune for a violinist and a clarinetist a few months ago. Exhilarating to say the least. The violin chap had tattoos all over his body. I could hardly see any of his skin. And the clarinet guy was covered in twigs and grass, and his face was painted. Odd but amazing evening.
