I'm Talonis, a.k.a. Brett. i just graduated college a couple weeks ago with a b.s. in psychology and seems like i have done nothing with my free time but patrol this board...waka can't get here soon enough! this will be my second Waka, both at the new location. been to several other festies thru the years (3 roos, 3 voodoos, couple of MIMs, and a bunch of RiverFests) and this could possibly prove to be the best one yet. can't wait to get up in the mountains and lose it for a few days...safe travels to all and see you in less than two weeks!!

I love this post! Reminds me of my boyfriend and I! Wakawakawaka and I also went to Roth both years and it was by far the best festival experience ever!! We have also been to Wakarusa from 2004-08. I am a huge DMB fan and he is a huge WSP fan...and I feel better knowing someone else already has their stuff packed!!! We were working on packing all our stuff last night :) Can't wait for waka!!!! Only 11 days!!!

Hahaha well thanks. Me and my ladie have been hitting the music & festie scene hard for a while now and both are super pumped to party down on the Mountain this year. Got a huge crew going with us think at the moment its about 5 cars and about 23 people, all ready with our rage faces in hand. So ready to see me some WSMFP! And now that the roo schedule is out looking like we are going to have to make it up for saturday and sunday i cant miss dave this year with the band taking 2011 off and I only have tickets to see him in the ATL in july one show is just not enough. But thats all far far away and waka is around the corner! So lets get ready to party!

Hi everyone.

I'm Forgetful.

That's why I'm just now posting to this thread.

That's me in the middle.

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f123/BigDaddyJosh/gnomie-1.jpg

Wait. Wrong pic. That's not me, that's Dewya Gnomie.

Try this one:

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f123/BigDaddyJosh/hocake.jpg

That's me flying the stringless edible kite while my son/ trusted wookie companion watches from the side and pretends to be amused. (I'm pretty sure the photographer/coffee dude put some kind of antigravity potion in my cuppa joe that morning.)

We both answer to Josh. Some people call me BDJ or big daddy Josh to differentiate Josh the elder from Josh the Younger and Thinner.

The other half of my family foursome are my wife and daughter.

Here's Beck, my sweetiepie and soul mate. We celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary last night!! And 6/4 WakaFriday is Beck's birthday (21st, I think), so we have way more reasons to celebrate than we'll ever use. (whatever tf that means)

last but certainly not least, here's Sarah, on the right, last year @ waka:

when we're not groovin in to the music playin the meadow and/or tents you'll find us hangin out at our shady locale in reserved rv, flying under the flag (and diplomatic immunity) of CAMP FRONT PORCH. (http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f123/BigDaddyJosh/finished.jpg)

I gotta say WOW to BDJ's post. What a story that picture of you flipping the pancake makes, especially the look in your sons eyes watching you working it! I don't know you but stories like you just wrote are tear jerkers always...what a happy story, I will look for the front porch camp to say hi face to face.

anyway, I'm Zach. Coming to my first waka from the wisco, been to a few festies over the years and each year they are the highlight of my year, thing is, this board convinces me this festival is going to be my favorite festival yet. I'll be coming down with 7 others but know a good amount of others coming.

Hey all! I'm Courtney, new to the forums, and this is going to be my first year at Wakarusa. I've been stalking around the forums for the past two months or so. I figure I might as well introduce myself!

http://i49.tinypic.com/23uwgbd.jpg

Me (left) and my good buddy Brittany (right) will be out in Satellite this year. Feel free to say hello to us! We will be wandering around Waka at all hours. You can catch us showing off our beginner hula hooping skills, having trouble setting up our tent, dancing to some Widespread Panic, or at the Silent Disco. :D

wakaroo
05-29-2010, 08:46 PM
hey guys, I'm wakaroo. If we met last year, you probably wouldn't recognize me this time, but I was camping primative and I jump started at least 15 cars with my portable battery charger last year

this will be my 2nd waka, but don't hold that against me. honestly I was a bonnaroo guy until waka moved to arkansas, in fact I bought a Roo ticket last year and was going to do both festivals but had so much fun at waka, I sold my Roo ticket from our waka campsite. I have a long long history of concerts and festivals, but none were as fun and carefree as waka and harvest were last year.

I'm from NWA but moved to the big city 5 years ago and yes I miss it sometimes but visit often,

I'm a new dad of the bestest boy a dad could ever ask for and I talk and sing to him every single day. it going to be tough to be away from him for a few days but he's just too small and too fussy at night to bring this time.

if you see me at the festival, come on up and say Hey, I'll be genuinely happy to meet you

You're going to have to attach that. You're trying to post something off of your computer's hard drive, and trying to do it as if it were a website. It is in fact, not a website. When you're making a reply (full reply, not quick reply), under the text box, and below the smileys, there should be a blue box called Additional Options. There is a "Manage Attachments" button you can click that will open a dialog box where you can pick the picture from it's location on your hard drive and upload it to the website as an attachment... hope that helps

As you can see from my number of posts and such, I'm new to the forums. I was just wondering what all interests we share other than festivals and listening to music (who doesn't like that?)

I'll start it off, I suppose. I've been skateboarding for about 8 years, I like writing of all sorts (no bueno at poetry though), I make little jams in my room with a loop machine and guitar and I also play bass in a jam band, learning in general is awesome (ignorance is weakness), road trippin' all over the place with your buds is good, politics and history are very interesting as well. I'm also a "conspiracy nut"

Slinky the Bison

I suppose we have something in common by both playing in a jam band.

I'm an avid brewer of beer (excruciatingly bitter IPAs are my favorite) and play a lot of disc golf when I'm not going to shows/festivals. I've been to every Wakarusa except the first one and have brought golf discs every year, but have never once played a round at the festival course.

I own a lot of instruments (trumpet, percussion, acoustic guitar, harmonica, Hammond organ) and can't say that I can play any of them with proficiency. I used to be decent at trumpet but haven't played for so long my embouchure is shot...

Aside from music I am a nature geek. I am an avid birder. I like to go fishing. I collect moths for a KS Lepidoptera Society research project for which I am a volunteer. My wife and I enjoy traveling to see shows or to see nature. We are getting psyched to go to SE Arizona to look for birds and to enjoy the scenery and geology of the area next month on her spring break (she is an eighth grade science teacher). Anyone from Tucson?

Hey Everyone,

My name is Jake, and judging by most of these pictures im seeing, I am young as hell. but no worries, I love great music and make a habit out of spending all of my money on festivals and concerts.

Ive been to Bonnaroo 3 times before, and am planning on going again this year (for my last journey to the farm), but not before hitting Waka for the first time.

Hey everyone -- Not really new here, just making a return after a few years off. Did late 90's phish fests, the first few bonnaroo's, and waka 05-08 before going on a baby induced hiatus:)

Anyway, my wife and I will be back this year and I am super excited to see all the friendly folks, great music and new festival site. Nothing beats the smaller more intimate vibe that Waka --- great music, people and venue without the hassle that 75,000 concert goers can cause.

Plus -- Budos will absolutely slay the mountain!!! Definitely a must see!

Looking forward to see you all!

Hey gang! My name is Andrew, and this will be my second Wakarusa. I live in Missouri with my lovely girlfriend and our two pets: "Charlie Sheen" (dog) and "Mia Mia Kitty Kitty" (cat). Recent developments with Charlie Sheen (the actor) have made me realize that I couldn't have given my dog a better name all those years ago. Below you'll see what I do for a living. It's a weird job, but it pays the bills. This layout features myself with much shorter hair, but twice the patriotism. It was a slow day at work, okay? :D I also play the drums in two bands when I'm not making these karate pictures. Can't wait to see your faces on the mountain.

The sets I am most stoked for this year are UM (my ultimate fave), Bassnectar, Mumford and Sons, Perpetual Groove, The New Deal, Shpongle, and Minus The Bear. I hope scheduling allows me to see all of them, but I will be happy if I see just one :) Looking forward to catching some unfamiliar, yet amazing, acts as well.

James is the name and I'm from the St. Louis area. 2010 was my first Waka and I will be coming again this year thanks so some great friends. I will likely be seen hanging near Camp BaconAlien or possibly near some microphones somewhere in front of the soundboard :)

I'm familiar with a good portion of the Chompdown crew so friends of theirs are friends of mine.

Since I haven't posted here yet, right now seems as good a time as any.
My name's Matt, this'll be my second waka - first one since '06. There's about a 50/50 chance I'll be going solo this year...my friends just aren't as committed as I am. They keep saying things like "now that I've graduated college it's time to grow up." Nonsense, I say.

I love a good jam and a tasty brew. And bacon. I hail from Wisconsin. Pretty laid back. Very excited to be able to come back to wakarusa, can't wait to see you all out there :D

This type of thinking could lead to a very dull life indeed, apparently you're much better off going solo and meeting some wonderful people at the Fest than bringing along the oh so 'fun' people who like to tell you to "grow up".

Hey guys, I'm Jacob, live in Fayetteville..this will be my second waka and I can't freakin' wait! Last year I did volunteer parking so I could score a free ticket. If your really broke and have no other way to attend I'd say do it, but after last years heat and standing in the sun for 10 hrs straight I said I would not do that one again and bought my ticket before the lineup was announced because of how good of a time last year was. Looking forward to seeing Mumford & Sons, Ghostland, North Mississppi, and pretty much every other group on the bill. Hurry up June, I'm ready to party on the mountain!

Shows have always been my thing. I'm that friend who's constantly trying to drag his other friends out to see good bands. I budget for it, they don't. Their loss.
In all reality, and I mean only minimal offense to my good friends out there, but camping and festivals are so much easier without debbie downers - which a few people I know can tend to be. I usually end up wandering off on my own even when I do go with friends. I have fun, my friends may or may not have a similar amount of fun, and I get end up meeting more awesome people. win win :D

and I couldn't be more thrilled about it! Really have no idea what to expect but it's not all bad that way, the less expectations the better as far as i'm concerned :)

(the groovin brunette)

When it comes to this sort of event it's totally okay to set your expectations high and then giggle with joy when those expectations are blown out of the water.

First time to Wakarusa and i'm heading there solo, I like to just break out and dance, and party very similar to PC ^^ above me. I'm bringing my banjo if anyone wants to jam, though I've only been playing for a few months so I just know a few basic rolls and chords.

Anyway I hope these pictures work, I'll mostly likely have a bigger beard by June 1st and I'll be wearing a sweet straw hat, So if you see me in the West Woods be sure to stop by and I'll hand you a beer or some bourbon. I can't wait!

Im from Chattanooga TN, and this will be my second waka. I've seen a few festys in my days, but waka ranked at the top. Besides the heat last year, it was perfect. I had a blast. Here is a few pics from last year. Sorry about the pics, my girl has no clue how to work a dslr. After ruining my favorite pic from last year, its only a point and shoot for her now. ; )

I'm the red eye on the left and my good friend Lexi on the right.

This was taken out at Schwagstock a number of years ago. My eye is red because I had scratched my cornea the first day we were out there. It was a painful injury, but with the help of some great friends, we made the best of it and had a ton of fun...

Hello Wakarusa familia! My name is Robert. I joined this here forum last year just before heading toward the mountain. However, I have followed it for years. This will be myself and a big group of St. Louis folk I go with's fifth year spending time on the mountain (seventh time if you include Harvest). If any of you are ever at a show in the St. Louis area, there is a good chance that you will see me so feel free to come say hi and get your boogy on with me. I always enjoy a good Wakarusa set schedule pondering conversation or a drink over what Umphreys will awe us with this year.

Hello there, Waka family! My name is Robert. I joined this here forum last year just a couple weeks before we headed toward the mountain. However, I have been following all of your silly shananigans and wishes for years on here. This Wakarusa will be my fifth and my seventh time on the mountain if you include the beautiful Harvest Festival. Myself and a group from St. Louis, Columbia (CoMo) and Lawrence make it down every year and always make sure to have a damn good time (which isn't difficult to do there really). I myself reside in St. Louis. If any other Redbird nation folk are out there and are at any shows around St. Louis, chances are you will see me so please feel free to come say hi anytime. I really enjoy a deep Wakarusa set schedule pondering conversation or a good stiff whiskey while discussing what exactly Umphreys is going to blow my mind with this go around. Nothing makes me happier than this new year and each day looking at new pieces of this puzzle we know so well as Wakarusa. I truly look forward to Year Ten with all of you. :)

My name is Mona and I'll be on the mountain with a crew from Columbia and know several from the Lou that are going too. Last year was my first Waka and can't wait for May to arrive. We head up to St. Louis often for shows at 2720 Cherokee. Hope to see you there!

Crazy! I am from St. Louis, and we also have a large crew of people that are from here, Como, KC, Tulsa, and Lawrence. We actually all met because of Wakarusa and the Chompdown. I'm assuming that you are going to UM at The Pageant. We will be having a Chompdown on Saturday Afternoonish. If you have Facebook, hit me up and I will get you the event page.

Scott, I will definitely be at UM Mardi Gras. We have a whole brigade of people coming in from Steamboat, Denver, Chicago, Lawrence and Columbia for this party. I believe a good amount of them are staying at the Moonrise. I will contact you on the Facebook. I sure do enjoy meeting good people from St. Louis.

Ah yes. It seems like only yesterday we had a large crew from all over the midwest staying at the Moonrise for a two night UM run (Halloween '10).

Just, er, be careful about shenanigans in your room. I suspect the hotel's GM funds his personal vacations with fines collected from unruly guests. Not that I'd know anything about that firsthand or, uh, yeah... Just don't do anything in there that hotel management might not appreciate.

I'm thankful my new house is only a few miles from the venue. ;)

Hey everyone, new on here so I thought I'd join this thread. Name is Zilla and I live in Portland, OR but I was practically born and raised in AR for the first 24 years of my life. I'll be at Waka this year, and it'll be basically my first festival! I've been to Schwagstock but didn't camp, and a 2-day panic show at Mud Island in Memphis but camped at a close by campgound since there was no festival camping. SOOOOOOO STOKED!!!!

Hey y'all, I'm Kevin and new to the forum! Looking forward to the 10th anniversary and am loving this years lineup. I'm a 24 year old DJ in Scottsboro, Alabama who graduated from the University of Alabama in 2011! I've been to Bonnaroo 2010, Hangout Fest 2011, Beale Street 2012, and Forecastle 2012! I've been trying to get around to different festivals every year and see what each one has to offer. I'm thrilled to be making my first trip to the mountain this year!

Awesome to have you here Kevin, welcome! I feel you are going to be blown away by Waka. You kinda get a preview of the killer vibe right here on this forum - such good peeps! Waka really seems to have every aspect one needs for a "perfect" festival, top to bottom.
