It's that time again, new folks are coming aboard and, frankly, I met so many of you guys last year that I can't remember who was who.
So...Hi, I'm Colin:

Post your pics!
Hi Colin!
I will be new to waka! I have been having scary realistic dreams of being on the ozarks since ive purchased tickets, I cannot wait. Looks to be an extra friendly vibe here, my kind of peoples.
By the way, love the shirt, love the tribe!

I'm on the left and Michael (another taper) is on the right. ~~dave~~wave~~ brought the beer. I'm never sure how many tildes he uses so please excuse the extras. Thanks again Dave!!! Image taken by Brian (yet another taper!) at Waka '08. Pretty sure it was '08. Brian takes great pics, concert or otherwise. If you need a photographer in the Lawrence area, let me know and I'll put you in touch with him.
I missed the first Wakarusa, but have hit all the others - although I was only there for one day in '07 (to see Ozric Tentacles, who never played...).

Ha, thanks scottt, love that picture.
I first made a day trip to Waka in 05, returned for the full fest every year since.
Once again this year I'll be wandering around a little dazed with a big smile.
Big up to all the tapers! They keep my festival vibe going all year!

My name's Greg, been going to Waka since '05, our crew has only missed one since then, '06. We've met tons of great folks at waka over the years. Hoping to see Boognish, Jayrock and Bogmonkey all make the trek back this year as well. My buddy B just recently joined the forums(BeeJay), he's the only one who's ever made it up for Chompdown, but I'll let him post his own pic. Hopefully this will be the year I finally get up and rally for the chompdown. Looking forward to June, here's a pic from last year's waka

Hi, my name is Phil and I am a Wakaholic. I have been fortunate enough to have been to every Wakarusa, and I don't plan on breaking the streak this year. I am the non-bearded one in the picture. Don't know who the bearded guy is, he was just wasted and wanted to get his picture taken with me (I think he thought I was in the band or something). I will be camped in Camp Schwanky, will be looking through a camera lens most of the festival, and will be at Chompdown (please someone wake me up earlier this year). Looking forward to seeing old friends and fam and making new ones!

Hello, to all! I'm Kris (Mrs. Snodge). My husband, The Snodge, and I have been to 3 Wakas so far (2 Kansas, 1 AR). We live in Rogers, AR about an hour or so away of the new venue.
We went VIP last year, because the venue change to AR made driving (and taking off work) far less expensive. We'll be in VIP again this year, and I'll be bringing the Bloody Mary Bites and other booze-food to the Chompdown again. Last year was rum pineapple, this year...THE WORLD.

I've been to Wakarusa 2006,2007 and 2008.
One day I will find a way to make it out to the new Mulberry Mountain location. Last year it conflicted with Phish in my home state of New York, and sadly its not in the cards this year, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for next!!
I miss all my Wakarusa friends so much, but maybe I can see you guys around elsewhere this summer (Phish Tour or High Sierra)
I'm also a huge fan of the Chompdown, so I urge all of you to make sure your asses are up to breakfast for a rockin good time with friends!!!

My folks own that place so good call on placing me there, although i havent really done anything there in a year. It was probably my little brother, he looks real similar. He will be joining us at TEAM RAD campgrounds. Also, i hear you know of some dudes i use to play with, Jeff Scholtes and Joel Pelphrey. We still play every now and then, but haven't in a while. Your pic has to reside on a webserver that allows posting images. Dunno if you can hotlink images from Facebook. You can do this for free at a ton of sites. I use Photobucket.com
Once your pic is on the proper server, you copy it's address and stick that between Image tags like this (but without any of the spaces!):
[ img ] httpee://addressofyourpicturegoeshere.jpg [ /img ]
The end result will be the picture showing up instead of the image code like this:

That's one way to get a pic on the board....and this method came when we upgraded the forum. Seems to work pretty well, but I'm just used to the old board.
The following are step by step instructions on how to post your full size images using the old method:
1) Upload you picture from your camera onto your hard drive.
2) Go to photobucket.com and either log in to your account or register.
3) Upload you image to this account.
4) After your image has been uploaded, scroll over the thumbnail in your album.
5) You will see four codes that you can copy. You want to copy the last one on the list....the [IMG] code.
6) This code already has everything you need to post it here. Just reply to a thread and right click 'paste'
7) Hit preview to see if it worked, then submit your reply.
I know these types of instructions sometimes seem complicated, but it's really easy. Please don't hesitate to contact me via PM if you have any questions.

Me and my clan come from the foot-hills of the Ozarks, in Newton County Arkansas.
I plan on making this an annual event for my people from now on.

Hi everyone! I'm Trisha-- my boyfriend Adam and I are on the right, our good friends Alyse & Nick on the left. I believe this picture was taken during Les Claypool at Waka last year. This will be my third Waka (went '08 & '09) and their second (last year being their first). We will also have another car or two of friends coming up with us this year for their first time. We decided to splurge on VIP this year & can't wait until June!

Hello all,
Me llamo MojoHand but my friends call me Chance. I caught the festival bug at Rothbury 2008 and attended my first Wakarusa in '09. I’m hooked on the music, the people, the vibe, and the experience. We ventured through ChompDown last year and I can think of no better embodiment of what music festivals are all about.(and the bacon wasn’t bad either)
My lady friend and I will once again be Mainstage camping with our pals this year and look forward to meeting new folks.

I am Sarah, I seem to love festivals more and more every year.
I work at Whole Foods, and I go to school way too much.
Last year I was stuck half way back up the waterfall hike at the time of the forum meet up, this year I will have a basic idea of how long we will be down there. So perhaps I will make it to meet everyone again! Though I assure, I will not know anyones real names...even after being told once or twice.

Welcome to the forum.
You could win the longest distance traveled for the US, unless a Hawaiian shows up.
Just out of curiosity, when you get directions on mapquest from your igloo to 4117 Mulberry Mountain Loop, Ozark, AR, what is the mileage and driving time?

Howdy,
I tried to see what mapquest would say, but since there aren't any roads to my village, it said it couldn't find me. It looks like it's about 4,500 miles from Elim to Mulberry Mountain.
I like the magic glasses on the wolfman! I'll try make the Chompdown, but that looks about like my naptime. No matter what I try to get at least 4 hours of sleep a day at a festival.
Good to be on board,

I'm Mike, 23 years old, and I love playing music, recording music, listening to music, watching music be made, studying music, reading about music, going to music festivals, drinking beers (while listening to music), and looking like I'm lost most of the time (unless I'm listening to music)
Gonna be driving from Denton, TX. I've been to festivals since 2005 (my first ROO), and finally stepped out of the box for AllGood 2008, Wakarusa 2009, and now Waka 2010!

Hello fellow Waka people! I found Wakarusa on the day I was informed there would be no Rothbury, a huge disappointment considering I missed last year's legendary festival. In a way, I am grateful that it was cancelled, I would have never considered this place! Anyways, feel free to stop by Camp Hippofish. We will be playing acoustic Grateful Dead covers as well as a couple Talking Heads with who knows what else. If we can get a small amplifier to work, we will also be having a heavy physics lecture in which our scientist friend explains time travel and teleportation, along with other topics he feels like enlightening us upon.
Here is a picture of me from Bonnaroo last year:

Howdy hippofish, i'll be packin' my mandolin and would love to participate in some acoustic jammin'.
Don't wanna sound snoody right off, but I'm a history teacher and visited Mongolia last summer, and if you called it a yurt over there someone might punch you in the face. Russians call them yurts and Mongolians aren't too fond of Russians at the moment, so they call felt tents their word for it, which is 'ger'.
I'll look for the hippofish as long as you won't punch ME in the face when I get there.

My name's Liz, I'm from Boston, I work for HeadCount, I'm a Railroad Earth and Umphrey's McGee fanatic, and this may be the most exciting line-up I have seen to date. This summer I hope to travel (through HeadCount) to Summer Camp > Wakarusa > Bonnaroo > High Sierra/OR Nateva > All Good > Mile High. Except for Bonnaroo, I have never been to any of these festivals before and I can't wait. Over the next few months I will be attending shows locally and hitting the road - touring around the country with Ben Harper for two weeks in April, helping HeadCount and tDB put on their "Bisco Power Mission" benefit show in NYC, and traveling New England to catch Railroad Earth at their tour stops in CT, RI, and ME before Summer Camp in May.

Johnny
Haha well I guess its a good thing I'm not in Mongolia. The whole yurt thing was not my idea, it was the scientist's. I'm sure if I called it a ger though, even less people would know what I'm talking about. We got a mandolin going too, a real nice Michael Kelly to play Ripple with.
P.S. Wow Liz, I can't even imagine meeting Bob Weir. I got choked up just seeing him and Phil with Furthur, the whole idea that both our lives have led up to this moment were sharing together and now our lives have intertwined... I guess I was just in a really deep mood haha. How is Gathering of the Vibes by the way? I might meet up with a couple people I met at Bonnaroo there.

Hello! I am Becky and my partner is Evan. This will be our 2nd waka, the last was in 2007! We had such an amazing time that we are making the trek from Vermont again :)
Seriously, 2007 was one of the best festi experiences I had in a long time and with the location and lineup this year I expect no less. Waka's VIP is the only that seems to be worth the money, so we are doing it up in style this year!
SOOO psyched!

Hello fellow Crazies!
My name is Brian and this will be my first Waka. I've been talking about going since '05 but finally made it happen.
I'll be the one in VIP with no face (hopefully it melts off)
And to all of you who say the lineup is bad.. what? I'm stoked about Slightly Stoopid, State Radio, WSP, Rebelution, ALO, STS9, Boombox, Dirty Heads, Supervillains, Black Keys, Bassnectar, John Butler, Umphrey's, JJ, RR&Fam, et al.. also, Pete Francis (only b/c I hope he and Stokes play a set together). For that matter, I'm stoked about all the bands I haven't seen/heard of in hopes that they will be the ones who make the melting of my face a reality.
Oh, and I will be at Chompdown.. I plan to bring something to contribute but not sure of what just yet.
Look forward to seeing all of you there!

Hi Forum,
I am Bryan, the unattractive one in the middle. I've posted a few times so I figured it was time to throw out an introduction. From Minneapolis and a longtime festival attendee but never been to Wakarusa...we had to move the operation south after my beloved 10KLF AND Rothbury were cancelled. Im super excited to see this ridiculous lineup and can't wait to meet some awesome new peeps. Bringing 3 others including one festival newbie. See ya in 34 freakin days!! WOOHOO!!
The great vibe on this board confirmed we made the right decision picking Waka over Roo. I've already had lots of fun here (Wartock is a funny dude)...BOOOO Rusty!!!
Sadly I could not convince the ladies to join me this year, maybe next year...;)

"good designers copy - great designers steal"
If everyone thought that way, no one would come up with anything original.
I really like this poster- but I just think it's lame that they'd pick re-hatched art two years in a row. Last year's winner was just a modified version of a Woodstock poster. Maybe I'll start looking for something to copy for next year's contest.

I really like this poster-
Domo arigato, Mr Roboto. Everything else comes off like sour grapes, but I'm sure that was not your intention.
Love your signature line, is that original?

Yeah, I knew that sounded kind of bitter when I posted it- but it's the truth and I wanted to point it out.
I wasn't trying to offend anybody. I liked the poster.
I just don't see why they would even have a poster contest- when they are just going to pick copies of old posters.
As for my signature not being original- I don't really see how that is relevant. You're not supposed to spend an hour thinking of something profound and insightful to put in your message board signature line. Also, I am not entering my signature into a writing contest.

Wow, Robinroboto. You certainly got it out there, what you got out there I am not sure. Your poor attitude, sour grapes... As long as were crying foul check out the original. The Waka poster is not so much a copy, I think of it as a nice cover tune. Kinda like the GD performing "Lovelight", "Goin down the road" or Led Zepplin performing "Whole lotta love", Clapton doing "Cocaine"...

Sorry I interrupted the little circle-jerk you guys have going on here. You can boil my statements down to being a poor attitude if you want, but I know I have a solid point.
I am not criticizing the poster as much as I am the contest in general. This was supposed to be a poster design contest- of your own original work. Have you even seen a "copy-someone-else's-art-contest? No- because that would be a waste of time for everyone.
The Dead and Led Zepplin proved themselves as artists in their own right, by making their own contributions to music before they started covering other bands. Have you ever seen a "battle-of-the-cover-bands?" No, because that would also be a waste of time.
Maybe I shouldn't have said anything, but I don't want to live in a boring world where people just imitate each other instead of coming up with new and interesting ideas of their own. Maybe this girl could have come up with the next iconic poster if she had given herself a chance to be more creative.
Also, I'm pretty sure this a derivative work copy-write infringement. Wakarusa should be more careful next time.

False statement. Almost all of Zep I was 'lifted" from artists such as Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson and Willie Dixon.
Just sayin'....

I really dig the poster but I also hear what Robin is saying. There may be sour grapes involved but there's a kernel of truth in there too.
The Waka poster is a cool reinterpretation of a wonderful original, created by a master. Did you know that Milton Glaser (the guy who did the original for Dylan) also designed the ubiquitous "I<heart>NY" logo - as well as the ones for Brooklyn Brewery and DC Comics? And painted a 600' mural on a federal building? And won the National Medal of Arts last year? Thank you Wikipedia!
I don't think Robin would disagree that it takes talent and vision to manipulate an iconic image and make it mean something else. But I think he/she's saying that there's something particularly special about the creative spark that comes from an original artist, and the labor to turn that idea into a real 'thing' for others to see/feel/hear/contemplate.
I don't know if I'm expressing this as eloquently as I could. "There's nothing more intimidating than a blank canvas". Or, how about an analogy that MC Hammer, while not without talents, isn't half the musician/sognwriter that Rick James was. No offense at all meant to Natalie, but what could she have done without the previous work of Milton Glaser? Honestly, I'd be very interested to see some of her other work because I like what she did for our poster this year. It's appealing to the eye and will serve as an effective marketing tool for the festival. I'm sure that's why it was chosen from among the many entries.
I guess the question boils down to: Does a derivative work hold less artistic value than an original?

Hey, ya'll! I'm Jesse. :) I went to Waka in '04, '06, '07, and '08. I was actually born & raised in Lawrence so when Wakarusa popped up in my hometown, I was thrilled to say the least. I moved out to Denver 3 years ago, the music and nature scene out here is incredible and I can't imagine living anywhere else now.
This is me and my boy Ben (who will be joining me this year for his first Wakarusa!) at Phish at Red Rocks last summer:

Hello to all,
My name is Justin and I currently live in Nashville, Tn. I have been to a few shows, but never a festy. I was hooked when one of my friends talked about his experience at Rothbury last year. I bout my ticket a few months ago but school and exams put a damper on my excitement the past few weeks. However, I finished my last exam yesterday so I am ready to absorb all the information possible! I am very excited about seeing sts9 and many other artists in the lineup. Hope to meet a lot of awesome people this year, which im sure wont be too hard! :)

Hey my name is Robert and I just finished my junior year of college at Penn State meaning this is my last summer before becoming a real person. I've been to Roo 07 and the two Roths and have been itching for another festival. Waka can not come soon enough.
I'm really looking forward to what Tribe pulls out. Supposedly this is the year for the fans so we might be in for something really special. What else? Ott live band > Farina > Bluetech  A carnival?! Being able to hear the main stage from your campsite, silent disco, beer that doesn't suck...I could go on and on.
Well anyway I'm just rambling now. Looking forward to adding to the discussions, you all seem like great people.
