View Full Version : How Cool is Wakarusa?

I have been to a number of festivals and the most fun was the inaugural 2002 Bonnaroo.
I have a bunch of friends and we were all planning on going to Bonnaroo this year, but the VIP prices are insane (with food, tax, fee it over $900 per person) and the line up this year is well..., as they would say "nothing to write home to momma about".
So this year we are thinking about going VIP at Wakarusa, but I would like to know how the vibe is? Is it old school festival cool vibe feel like the first Bonnaroo or a lot of the grateful dead and phish crowd? You know just great cool people to be around.
Also how is the promoters, do they treat you good, like they actually appreciate you as a customer? Take care of you, have good appropriate security (A security group that doesn't harass, but is present if help is needed?)
I know this is a long post, but I would just like to know what I am getting myself into for an event and what to expect.
Thanks for you time.

I have to say, i am kind of curious what was in the original post - i need to stay on top of my game and read posts before the moderators do - but that is hard to do - they are pretty quick....
To answer a few of your questions...
The festival crowd rocks - a ton of chill, positive, good vide kind of folks (just like the fine people on this forum)...
The security, staff promoter and volunteers are incredible - helpful - friendly - all around bad a$$e$ if you ask me...
Last year was my first Waka and I didn't experience a single issue - everything, every second was GREAT

I second all the points above, it's a very relaxed vibe. Anything that you may have read about Waka pre-2009 is irrelevant as they were in a different State and on public land in those days. The only incident that I witnessed last year was an attendee who decided that he was going to pick a argument with security and simply would not let it go (he as trying to cross the fence to use the VIP wash station without a VIP wristband). The dude blew it up out of all proportion but security still remained calm, but firm. It was very well handled.
You'll have a blast.

Probably what most get edited for on this forum board. Talking about stuff that should not be discussed on a public message board that anyone and everyone can read. Once people realize the value of discretion, the moderators' job would be very easy.

I wish I had read the original post as well. Just curious, and not trying to pick any fights, or open up any cans of worms...but...
Is it old school festival cool vibe feel like the first Bonnaroo or a lot of the grateful dead and phish crowd?
Is this a knock on the Phish crowd? You got me worried now.

oh no i didn't mean it as a bad mark on the phish crowd, in fact thats the crowd I love.
It sounds like a great event, my original post had some more details about past stuff at Wakarusa, but like some have said it is a different seen now and things are better now that it has changed locations.
My links to some of the news stories on the issue was deleted as well.
It sounds like Wakarusa is the kind of cool chill vibe I am looking for this summer. Thanks for your posts and ....
Sorry to the moderator for posting some stuff I shouldn't have....

Well the only thing I was concerned about seems to have been taken care of years ago with the move to another venue, but I would like to know this though, and I did post it else where on this forum, ....
In VIP camping do you guys segregate RV's from tents, you know have all the RVs on one side and the tents on another so you don't get stuck in a tent between a bunch of RVs with generators running the whole time?

Well, then...can't wait to see you there! Wheh.
I also have the same question about VIP camping next to RVs. My wife and I are looking for some good, quiet times.

Thats a lot of money for Bonaroo. I would much rather do Waka anyway. It will be less people, a lot less money, good music and no B.S. from the staff. I checked out the lineup for Bonaroo. It doesn't seem worth it to me. For $900 they should have a hotel room and catered meals.

Yah they do have catered meals, but like you said the line up is nice, yet the price for bonnaroo is just too much. That and I think it is loosing that vibe.
We have decided we will be going to Wakarusa this year. Look forward to a great time at Wakarusa....
Bonnaroo VIP tickets $1350 plus fees and plus food packages it is $1780 for two tickets. Wakarusa..... $425 each ticket..
That and I would rather see the bands that are coming to Wakarusa.
Plus it is our plan to come down a few days early and do some camping in the Ozarks
My only two request that would put Wakarusa way over the top, would be adding Atmosphere and Younder Mountain String Band to the line up.
