Are there any WU fans out there? I am from western WI, so I get to see them quite often. They put on a high energy show, but I have only saw them in small venues. I wonder if they bring the same energy to a big stage?

WU is definitely an awesome live band. i gotta agree with ardnutz here about the high energy, but I also have only seen them in a small club. nevertheless, they are a vert sweet band to see

I plan on attending the family reunion. I live in Eau Claire, WI so I hope it won't be too far of a drive.

I love the WU! I heard about them from my 9th grade english teacher. Very cool guy, introduced me to the \"scene\", but with a main focus on the Wu. Too bad I don't get to see them very often out here in Michigan. Can't wait to FINALLY see them at a festival! Anyone see them open up the first Bonnaroo?
The Wu was the **** when I was in high school and abit after (around 2001), but after Jason left i felt that the band hadn't progressed as much as I'd have hoped... I mean it just took so long for them to come out with any new material, though I think they may have something out I haven't seen or heard yet... I actually had been to the last two rave Wu shows (well last 4, but these 2 were for free) and ended up leaving both fairly early... I don't know, I guess I just felt to old at 22...seemed everyone was still in high school, kind of like how I was when they were huge for me....
i have been to the reunion twice, 2001 and 2002, and had a blast, but this year will be my second year working Summer Camp in Chilicothe, illinois and must say that I just love the bands and atmosphere there so much better.... plus its a 3 hour drive from Milwaukee! I'm not hating by any means, anyone whose heading to the reunion I'm sure you'll enjoy yourselves, but I'm just wondering if anyone else feels the same about the Wu as i do....

Can't say I do Sae. Every show I have been to has been 21+ so there were zero high school kids at these shows. The crowds were intoxicated and somewhat rowdy, and the band definately played off of that energy. I guess that is a plus of being near the Twin Cities. I can see them in smaller venues. They probably only play the Rave in Milwaukee, and I never seem to be excited about going there.
the rave is a big bummer thats for sure! oh well, I bet a 21+ show would definitely be more up my aisle....
to each his own i guess....I'll still prolly wonder by their set for nostalgic reasons....

Sae
I was definetely feeling how you were for a while when Jason left, and those shows when there are mostly high school kids (New Years Eve show). Being 23, I sometimes feel like I'm too old for the crowd, but the Wu write such good songs, that I'm still into them after all these years. In my opinion, they are one of the only jam bands I've heard that consistently put out good studio albums. It may not be the same as it was a few years ago, but they are still one of my favorite bands
good vibes all around

Sae, Did you catch Umphrey's at the rave on April 16th? (i think that was the date). My friends band was opening for them (The Green Situation). I felt bad that I couldn't make it but I caught them in Madison on 4/20. He claims they rocked the rave and Umphrey's could hardly follow them!! lol

now i hate to go bustin everyones balls, but....my band opend for the big wu last year when i was still in high school and we were playing with all these older people that kinda had the same opening slot that we did. i'm pretty sure green situation played before us. anyways, i can not dig the wu at all. same stuff over an over, but they do write very good tunes i just think they are past their prime. as for that umphreys show at the rave on 4-16, i didn't see anyone on the side stages because it seemed that all the high school kids were trying to get front row. and umphreys totally blew the roof off that place. i've been seeing them at the rave since 2001 and that was by far the best show they played there, crazyness. and i'm sure they will bring that energy to Wakarusa. pretty much the main reason why i bought my tickets in the first place.
yeah, I actually had a free VIP ticket to the Umphrey's show, but I wasn't able to make it.... if i remember correctly it was at the end of a long 2 weeks of shows and my body was aching and I just crashed that night instead... I guess I'll be seeing Umphrey's quite a bit this summer, though they aren't exactly a fav band, there good, but just again not my first choice....(which is by no means a put down, I just have different priorities then some...)
I loved the Yonder show, though I did have an early exit that night (damn security!!!!) and a the Hydra show (which was another early exit becuase of a friend, though the tix were free that night as well)... oh yeah, thats why I didn't see umphreys, i was rocked from the hydra show the night before and work the next day...
Wakarusa is getting so close, and summer camp is even closer.... Yayyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!
