Thanks, Dave. I don't know what happened between 2010 and 2011, but it has gotten out of control. Just finished deleting at least 30 spam posts and banning 15 user names. And all that happened overnight....

When I delete them, you guys can't see them anymore, but I can see where they used to be. Just a quick scan tells me that since January 4th, 85% of all new threads were spam.

It's gone crazy just in the last few days. Don't know if new software has popped up or what, but man.....

Thanks all for reporting the spam. We've brainstormed on how to minimize it, and it's hard to come up with a satisfactory solution, other than just trying to keep on top of it every day. Pauly gets to more of it than I do (he wakes up earlier).

We'll keep banning them as long as they keep coming. Defend your home turf with a vigor.....

Just cleaned up the boards. Hopefully we can get back to our quiet little corner of the Innarwebs whereby we speculate on band tour dates and generally make fun of people like SPellizaro without Cylon interference. Thanks again for everyone's help.

Maybe there's a way to essentially block every IP address outside the US.

We only want to do that as a last resort. Essentially, we changed the registration procedure to include the question, "Where is Wakarusa held?". It's easy for them to defeat CAPTCHA, but nearly impossible for a bot to answer that question.

It seems to have done the trick. I had to delete one thread and ban one user name this morning before I left for work, and that entity had registered prior to the implementation of the new procedure. That sure beats having to sift through 3 pages of the crap first thing in the morning. That's not the best way to start your day ;)

This thread should be ten pages long by now!! This was my first year to attend Waka and this forum made us so much more prepared for what to bring and what to expect. Thank you both for not only putting in all the hours to keep this forum going but to also take the time to answer so many of our questions. You guys have taken this from being just a source for information to being a community of like-minded people. I hate that I didn't get to meet anyone while I was there but I will see you all next year and I look forward to passing the time on here with our stories of this year and predictions of next year. Thanks to you both very much and keep up the fantasic work.
