Laugh if you want to, but the only drawback of Wakarusa for me is that I have to leave my dog at home. I've had my boy for over eight years now, and last years' Waka was the longest that we'd ever been apart. Since I'll be getting to the campgrounds on Wednesday, this years' Waka will become the longest that we'll be without each other. Luckily, I'll probably be passing out each night, because I have trouble getting to sleep without him next to me in bed.

What a beautiful pooch, Raw! (the other critter looks nice also  ).Very cool photo too. Is that Lake Shawnee?!! I also love my dog. He's an old, old guy....14. It breaks my heart when I see him struggle to get up (his hind legs are bad), but he's still a pup at heart. He has no idea that he's not 2 any longer!
It sounds like it'll be a challenge for you to be away from each other. Just think of how joyous it will be when you get home! Doggie kisses all over!!!
How do I post a pic?

Actually it's Lake McConaughey in western Nebraska, if you can believe that. One of the coolest places that I've ever been to. And my boy's back legs are getting bad, too...but he'll always be two years old in both of our hearts.
To post a pic, it has to be hosted online somewhere. I've heard that shutterfly.com is good, but I just use an old website that I used to use for my list of live shows (tapercities.com).

That is an incredible lake....looks like an ocean in that shot! I'd read about Lake McConaughey last year when my husband & I were planning a trip to Wayne, NE for the Wayne Chicken Show. I wanted to see it, but we couldn't work it all in. Plus I've wanted to see the Sandhills area of NE for years. We want to do the Chicken Show again sometime, maybe we can go a bit farther west then. It looks beautiful!
Hillbilly music tomorrow!!! YAY! I am sooooo ready for some live music. And, the weather should be perfect for lazing about on my blanket. Ahhhh.....a most wonderful spring KS day to make me a happy girl :D . Are you going?
Hug your pooch! And give him an extra treat tonight :D

My stinky, smelly, country dogs (who I love dearly) have been beggin' me to take 'em to Wakarusa. Maggie, PeeWee and Sadie are so disappointed that they can't enjoy all the good music and free pets at Waka.
My blood pressure has gone down just writing about my hounds!
peace, love, music and canines!
hey raw shok...I'm diggin' the G. Love disc. Thanks!

Oh randall! I'm in love with that guy! My heart got all warm & mushy when I saw that pic. How old? What kind? And, name?
Here's my old guy with his regular coat & his short, hot-weather do. He wasn't feeling very cooperativefor the second shot!

I used to go to Lake McConaughey when I was younger! I lived in Western KS...now I go to Lake Shawnee or Clinton...or Perry...lol. I know what you mean--when I moved into the dorms I had to leave my hamster, Gemma, behind...sad day...

tnk -
Your old guy has a cool mohawk. He looks like a really good friend.
Our little dude is a Aussie mix - he was born on Aug. 1 last yeat (same b-day as Jerry Garcia) but his favorite band is Pink Floyd so we named him Floyd.

Great doggie name, randall! Useless info (even though this is the wrong thread).....my sister had a huge psychadelic Pink Floyd poster up in our room when I was a kid. When she moved to CO, I pulled it down & threw it away....she was furious at me for months! Anyway, he's a gorgeous guy.
Our pooch, Barney (NOT named after the big, purple thing), has had that crazy hair since he was a pup. He's got sort of a pointy head thing going on which makes his hair get a little funky. We adopted him from Wayside Waifs when we lived in Shawnee. It was love at first sight for me :P .
I still haven't seen a photo of you........

Mr. Italian sausage~~~I do loooooove a nice hairy chest. Something to run my fingers through. Maybe pull if you're being bad.....but, you do have those dark curls going for you. It's really a tough call. Hmmm....I'm going to go with the curls. Extra points for length  .

Y'all got nothin' on me. I not only have hairy boobs, and yes, some of it is black and curly, but much of it is gray, some hints of red, and it covers most everything on my body from the top of my feet to my beard.
My dogs, however, are hairless. Their names are Sombra and Machu and they're Mexican Hairless Xolos...
But, darn it, I couldn't get the photos to stick. You're spared the excitement and disgust.

I really miss my old dog. My wife made me give him away because she didn't like the way he stared at her all of the time:

now that is creepy.
He almost looks as if he's ready to talk.
One thing I'm glad the dog will never do.

even if dogs were allowed at Waka, I doubt I'd bring mine (altho I'd love to) just because certain areas of KS has breed specific laws that ban certain dog breeds, Kane, my beautifully behaved, sweet as pie, shares his meals with children, has never hurt a soul, pit bull would not be welcome. So instead he's going to go stay with the BF in St Louis for the week. The thought of not seeing him all week then coming home and him not being there is already causing me anxiety!

luck,
you may just win the prize of Queen Waka. leaving the bf AND the dog at home??!! you go girl.
in fact, i think all the women coming to waka should follow lucky's lead (i know tink & emma are) of leaving all BFs at home (i would LOVE to bring my dog too, so i cant advocate leaving them at home, but i understand the reason for the rules - not all dogs r as sweet as lucky's and mine).
