There will be LOTS of people with instruments I'm sure. There will be communal fire rings throughout the campsites, so I imagine jam sessions will be happening at these areas.

I heard there was a jam at the fire in VIP on Wed. night last year, and I rode the other campgrounds around sunset and didn't hear or see anything happening. In family camping, though, I eventually connected with a hot fiddler and washtub-bass, and we jammed for hours (I play guitar, walkabout dulcimer, percussion, voice). In 2005 I jammed with another guitar player late into Wed. night. I plan to be there Wed. to find a jam once again, but I've found that after Wed. I get too busy taking in others' music (except a little morning jamming). I've tried using the forum to create a jam at a specific time and place, but that never panned out. I'll probably just start jamming at my campsite and hope someone joins me. I'll post my campsite once I get one if anybody's interested in joining me. I know enough tunes to keep a jam focused for many hours, and I love to learn from and play with others willing and able to lay down some structure, as well.

As far as percussion instruments go....for the last 2 years we've been to Waka they've always had a \"drum circle\" on Sunday mornings inside the fest grounds...sorry, but I don't remember what stage area it was last year :?

I haven't seen Waka post this on their website yet, but I'm sure there will be another one this year as a lot of people attended with various sized drums, bongos, and other percussion instruments.

i'll most likely bring my whole collection of capoeira instruments (2 berimbaus, 2 pandeiros, agogo, and reco-reco), djembe, doumbek, and didjeridu. damn i haven't played my didjeridu in a long time.. anyways, my friend will probably bring his berimbaus too..maybe if any of you are interested we could give you a quick crash course in some traditional capoeira angola music.

I love those instruments. Pat Metheny used to have a percussionist name Nana Vascancellos who played those instruments. The album AS FALLS WITCHITA is filled with that delightful sound.

I play my washboard with spoons, unlike those who prefer thimbles or metallic fingerpicks. What's your pleasure?

I like the spoons when I'm rocking with loud bands, but it requires a light touch during an acoustic scene sans amplification. The spoons also work nicely for smacking cans and wood and cymbalitas in addition to the board.

I have been playing with this forked metal comb-like thingy...never thought of spoons. I'll have to add a couple to my arsenal.

Spoon quality is an important factor for finding the proper tone. Avoid cheap, plated spoons. I've done well with old sterling silver found at thrift stores. You want your instrument to be plenty hard and stiff.
