That's a good thread idea  --whose sets would you like a copy of if available? Off the top of my head, I'll be looking for New Monsoon, SLR, Cheese, Ozomatli and OF COURSE, Railroad Earth. What's everyone else looking for?

as far as i'm concerned, this scene, these festivals, and the success of many of these bands is all thanks to you tapers. i want to thank you all for what you do... hef
Thanks for the accolades for tapers, folks. We enjoy receiving credit for what we do. I am coming to tape Umphrey's, Mule, SCI, Blueground Undergrass, and as much as I can get to. Still unsure of the actual schedule, which will dictate what I can get to.

ANd for those who just can't wait--last year you could purchase many of the sets you just heard an hour or so after the set for $10. Team B, will those guys be back?
Sunflower

Absolutely! How many people have been turned on to a band that they'd never even heard of before because someone handed them a disc? And how many times have we all gone to a show (or missed a show), then waited anxiously afterward, checking the LMA or various bittorrent sites for it to appear?
BIG HUGE thanks to all you tapers out there!
And hey, Edub, got a question--what is the protocol about approaching tapers at a show and requesting a bnp if you've got blanks with you? I've been to shows where I've seen tapers but have never seen anything uploaded anywhere. Is it okay to do that, if I've got blanks in a stamped envelope all ready to go?
Speaking generally, I've not heard of a taper turn down someone with blanks and postage pre-addressed in hand. I usually take plenty of bnp's.
Most times ones wanting copies of shows aren't as prepared. In that case if I can give you my contact info, you can email me later on what (cd's usually and postage) to send and where. We tapers once in awhile will take small trades for sending you the show, like a beer or two (not all tapers drink) or water, etc. Not that we like to profiteer or anything, but it's on many occasions hard to get up and move about when we need something. Hope this helps... we all make it happen, including the bands that allow recording :D

well,, sorta
Some of the bands last year would not allow the \"Instant CD's\". Some due to the labels , some for other reason's.
But lucky for us they allow Audience taping . So there sets were archived
I purchased a few of the sets last year, and some were good in the mix. Some had prob's...
\"Team AKG\" will be in the house just to be safe 8)

That's true Nick, not all bands allowed us to offer their sets via the Instant CD method.
That's why everyone should stop and ask themselves:

Sometimes good things come to those who wait... although I won't be taping every band, I'm sure between 'team AKG' and I we could handle most of the groovy tunes :D

we should have
480(61&63)>D-mod UA-5>Jb3 (A buddy and I )
460(61&63)>T-mod UA-5>M1 (Joe)
393>D-mod UA-5>Jb3 (Sam , I think he's coming)
And Im pretty sure some MBHO's will be making the trip aswell. And Im sure plenty of others.
We didnt have much of problem getting almost all of them last the year .
How you liken that r4 edub ? Id like to see it in action..
Nick
The R4 is ultra-slick bro! I haven't used it without my V2 pushing it, but I've heard good things of just using it solo.
You don't happen to have any omni caps for those AKG's do ya?
Maybe we could run a 481 + Gefell M200 matrix with the R4?
What bands are you gonna run?

this is what I know for sure, But Im sure we'll see a few more shows ..

Robert Bradley's blackwater
Sat 06-18-2005
GOV'T MULE

I'm looking at doing most of those bands as well, momule.
I may be able to borrow some ck62 capsules. Would either of you fellas running 480's/460's be interested in running omni's if I can get 'em shipped to me?

you bet... Joe and I were talking about running some Omni's a couple weeks ago,as He was thinking of picking up a pair.
maybe even we could go all nerd like, and Run a matrix with split omnis and a card/hyper to fill in the middle with that fansy smancy R4 ya got it would just make it too easy .. 8)
The prob I see with the Omnis at waka is the crowd . We would have to run WAY FOB to eliminate just half of the Chit chat ... I woulf think they would sound better at something like galatic or particle. maybe we can try this friday evening at Particle (if ya can snag the 62's that is.)
Nick
I'll be talking to the fella tonite with the omni caps. Via email he's given me his blessing. I figured we could run them matrixed with my Gefell cards. The thing about the R4 is, if the 4 channel matrix isn't to our liking, we can split the two stereo channels and just keep either/both the omni and the cards on separate files :o
You guys may know more about placement of the mic's if you were attendance last year. I'm still a Waka virgin :?
I have a set of 50' mic cables we could use for the omni's if we wanna split em, but only one stand. I'm sure we can/will work something out :D

Ya thats why Im intrigued my the R4, good price point and it will make 4 separate tracks.. Cause let me tell you trying to Sync them Post Is not very fun by any means.. Most of the time you have to stretch one of the tracks a bit as the word clocks are off.
I have a extra set of 25' XLR's I will be bringing aswell , and I also have a couple stands . so we should be good to go..
me likey Virgin's

I ran from the TS most of last year but after those tapes I will be running much more FOB this year. I aint scared
Mule is kinda a touchy subject with myself and My taping buddy (there the reason we started taping) we started following the mule back in 95
so Im guessing my buddy J is not gonna be up for Running anything but straight AKG's for the mule.. But anything else is pretty much open at this point. Karl would be nice now that ya say that..
I run 9v Lithiums Now (for everything) , But I have a multiple 12v SLA's that I can pack if ya need some extra juice.
I took 2 12v 7Ah batts last year and taped over 16 hours of stuff with it (but your needing more juice) . \"we\" have [2] 12volt 7Ah and [5] 12volt 5Ah if needed
plus \"we\" have 3 Jb3s so we got over 100gb of space. ([2] 40 gb Jb3's and 20gb )

I just want to echo what alot of others have already said and thank all you folks who deadicate yourselves to archiving the music. After burning a few shows later today my collection will have hit 200+ shows. I do very much appreciate what you tapers do!
I think it was Sunflower who mentioned that many of the bands would not be where they are today without tapers sharing their music with others. Having talked with guys from a number of bands I know that they to are aware of the contribution that tapers and traders have made to their success.
Hope to meet a few of you and share a beer or smoke.
Don
Cheers to you, Don, Suflower, Digitidog and even TeamB for making the tapers' life that much easier and more rewarding. :o
I've got a JB3 with two batteries that I won't be using and could lend out if it was needed. I'd bought it with the intention of setting myself up to tape at Wakarusa, then got hit with an unexpected $1000 bill that put off my buying the rest of my gear.
Please please please somebody think about taping that thursday 2AM Papa Mali show. I'm telling you right now that's going to be one of the best sets of the entire festival.

Looks like all the tapers will have their hands full for this Featival. Just a quick heads up, Little Feat usually provides a patchbay from the SBD. So, keep an eye on the board in case Howard(Little Feat's soundman) is allowed to put out his patchbay.
As the Archivist for the band I'd love to get a AUD copy from someone. Please keep me in mind. cjcafiero@littlefeat.net

I have that same umbrella! I'll be running my Superluxes all weekend.
Are they generally cool with running FOB? What are the chances of finding an AC outlet? I have plenty of juice for the JB3 (12v 7aH SLA), but will probably run out of harddrive space. Need power for my crusty old laptop to transfer off the JB3.

I seen your post earlier On TS..
I would be more worried about running out of Juice than HD space.
What all are you running of the SLA? I brought two 12v 7Ah's last year to run a single Jb3 and a UA-5..
I ran just one 20Gb JB3 last year and taped almost 20 hours woth of stuff and didnt fill it. I'll have 2 (40gb) and a 20gb this year so we got plenty of back up
Im not sure what all ya got in mind as far as taping but most bands dont get but and hour set and that ends up being about 400MB (unmastered) per set .. so at that rate you could tape nearly 30+ bands...
See ya there...

The JB3 is the only device I run off the SLA so I would expect to get 20 hours with it. I power the mics with an ART Phantom II that should deliver 15-18 hours from two 9v batteries. I do not have a pre-amp - I just use AT CP8201 line transformers to get gain - but I may try to borrow a pre for the fest.
Pouring over the schedule I can see spending blocks of time at one stage, then moving to another. Are they far apart? Can you realistically breakdown, move, and setup in a 30 minute window?

you should be able to make it from stage to stage in a 30 minute window, This will invlove you being able to tear down and set up in a few minutes . which sounds like it shouldnt be a problem with the minimal amount of gear your packin..

Hey Nick and anyone else who would know:
Is the area directly behind the 7-10 ft VIP viewing area, located at each and every stage, a suitable place to set up for FOB taping?
Is there a rail/fence surrounding the VIP area that would provide us a shelter to set up behind?
Would this be too close/just right?

Um,, well your description is correct as far as the fence and all, But running that close will prolly yeild a VERY chatty tape .. and your more than likely gonna need ALOT of blockers...
