I am coming in from Iowa, meeting friends from Colorado. We want to enter and camp together so are looking for a good spot to meet. Someplace a person could sit for awhile and wait, ideally, since we may be arriving at different times. Anyone know a good place?

(We are all cell phone-shunning Luddites, so we don't have the option of instant communication. )

Hey Capt.~
If you are coming in on the Turnpike...I70, there is a small parking lot right at the toll booth. You'll be getting off on the first Lawrence exit, #197....I think the sign says Lawrence/Lecompton. Once you get off there, you'll see the parking lot off to your right. It's right there at the entry. Here's a link to the Turnpike Authority site. It doesn't show the parking lot, so here's to hoping I made some sense.

Hey thanks!

Do you happen to know if that lot is accessable from both directions?

I'm not sure, but I think it is accessable from both directions. You might have to whip a U-ey to get to it though.
Also, from that exit you'll drive straight south & be taken right to Clinton State Park. They'll probably have Waka signs up along that road.....they did last year. Piece of cake!

I suggest the Holiday Inn Parking Lot. They have public restrooms and couches in the holidome.

East on I-70, turn on West Lawrence Exit, drive a little on Iowa, and the Holiday Inn will be on your left (East).

West on I-70, turn on same West Lawrence Exit and stay on Iowa, and Holiday Inn, like a pyramid along the Nile is on your left.

If for some reason, you can not find it, you can get to a phone book for the address and a map - since you don't have instant communication.

Depending on how long you might be waiting on your friends, you might want to be closer to restaurants ect. If you go a past the Holiday Inn on Iowa Street at the intersection at 23rd/Clinton Parkway there's a Hasting's Parking lot, a frozen custard place, a hot sandwich place, a liquor store, a bar, ect. After you all arrive, take a right on Clinton and it takes you straight to Waka.
