Sorry to sound so alarmist, but those traveling to Lawrence and Clinton Lake State Park from the south (Hwy. 59, shortcut through Ottawa from I-35) must be careful not to drive ONE mile over the speed limit and ALWAYS wear your seatbelts.
The State Police and locals too have been conducting the stupid \"Click-it-or-ticket\" campaign for WEEKS now, and I see about four cars pulled over each day (sometimes at the same time) in front of my house on Hwy. 59 south of Lawrence.
The cops are being sneaky, too, using unmarked Blazers parked on the side of the road with a deputy inside aiming a radar gun at everyone who passes. Then he radios the info to his cohorts down the road and BANG, you get stopped WAY after you got hit with radar.
Bottom line: drive the speed limit on Hwy. 59 and wear your seatbelt.
Don't give the cops a reason to ruin your weekend!
Have fun, drive safely and be warned!

Seatbelts are always a good idea, even without sneaky cops.
Watch out for the WOOKS on the road.

We have this posted on our web site below:
And speaking of cars, PLEASE be sure that before you make this fun trip to The Grateful Garcia Gathering, that you CHECK your vehical and make sure that you do not have \"anything\" (like two dice's, necklace's, beads, ornamentals of any kind) dangling from your rear view mirrow, or stuffed toys on your dash board, bad tail lights, expired tags, duck tape holding up your bumper, ect. Do not give law enforcement officers \"any reason\" to pull you over and ruin your weekend. Use your common sence at all times, and please Don't Drink and Drive.

>>One mile over gets you pulled over? What's the speed limit?
The speed limit on Hwy. 59 south of Lawrence is only 55, and they will pull you over for going 56 or for passing a cop without visibly wearing a seat belt.
The only reason cops are being so harsh on Hwy. 59 is because there's been several accidents in recent years, and they think the enforcement will prevent deaths. Yet, all those tickets sure didn't stop a sand-filled semi from splitting a car in HALF last week just down the road from my house. Killed a woman and hurt the semi driver.
Bottom line: be careful and see you at the Wakarusa!

for what it is worth...the lady totally blew the stop sign while crossing the highway. Seat belt or no...speed limit or none...sand trucks will split cars in half when traveling 55mph or 75mph and cannot stop because of inattentive drivers.
