We got into Waka-land about 11 p.m. Thursday night. After setting up our campsite and starting the hike to the main stages and campgrounds, we were very surprised to find out how far away we were. Our \"campground\" wasn't even listed on the program map (on the map, it would have been close to Box Office/Day parking). Does anyone know if this was an unforeseen circumstance, or if they had planned to camp people there? It seemed like there were several open fields that would have been closer that they could have put us in.

Overall, I had a great festival, don't get me wrong! I was just curious what the scoop was with the far satellite campground location. The Lawrence newspaper put the attendance estimate at 15,000, so I don't think it was an overpopulation problem.

I don't think that they planned to have people camp there. They even had to use the vendor area for general camping too. It was very full compared to last year. I think you'll see some changes next year...

There were a variety of factors that led to this field being used as camping, the main one being the GA campgrounds were nearly full by Thursday evening. We didn't want people to become crammed in and those large empty fields next to the box office looked like a great spot to start putting folks. However it is quite a walk to the concert fields and the shuttles were not there nearly as often as they should have been. Please accept our heartfelt apologies. And NCTRNL is right, there will be some changes made in regards to land usage next year that should leave everyone feeling happy about where they are camping at.
