View Full Version : What unknown bands did you like?
I hadn't heard of many of the bands, and some of them surprised me. I really liked the Dewayn Brothers.

I listened to clips of many of the bands before hand, so I had half-a-clue on who to see. There were so many I had never heard of! I was very impressed! My fave ne ones?....Donna the Buffalo (was looking forward to seeing them). DeWayn Brothers, Weary Boys, Hot Buttered Rum (hadn't planed on seeing them), Hackensaw Boys (another that I was looking forward to seeing), Tishamingo, Slobberbone, and the Bottlerockets. Plus BR549 & Split Lip Rayfield, the 2 main reasons I went in the first place. The perfect line up would have been all those bands on the same day!!! I would have been in heaven & dead on my feet  .

I checked out clips before going too, but the only bands I was really familiar with were Garaj Mahal, Keller Williams, Particle, and Leftover Salmon...which means I left this festival a new fan of Benevento/Russo Duo, STS9, Signal Path, Drums & Tuba, Jazz Mandolin Project, Jacob Fred Jazz Oddyssey, the Motet, Hairy Apes BMX, Galactic, and Tea Leaf Green! Thats a lot of new bands!

Definately Barefoot Manner. They were one of my favorites of the whole weekend and I had never heard of them. Since leaving there (with their set in hand) I went out and picked up a live recording called aqua leisure and their new album called centered. They are both amazing. Check these guys out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marc Broussard was a pleasant surprise for my wife and I.
We'd heard of/seen nearly everyone at the festival except his band.

Tea Leaf Green and Donna the Buffalo were probably my two favorite unknowns. Oh, and Barefoot Manner as well.

Mindy Smith was totally new to me.
Benevento/Russo DUO, P-Groove, and Hot Buttered Rum String Band, I had their CD's before but never saw them live until Wakarusa
Tea Leaf Green was my favorite 'unknown' but I already knew about them

I definitely think Kaki King and Bockman's Euphio will become more well-known.
