from LOS's Festivalist:
Hi Yall
Tis some very bad news but yes it is true
after 15 years the boys are calling it quits
I wanted to keep all the rumors from flying
I am very sad about this the band has been a big part of my life from
playing my wedding in 94 to being on the road with them for 5or6 hundred
shows or so .Since Mark passed nothing has really ever been the same
musicly they have done a great job but the feeling of family and
adventure has never been the same Mark really was the glue that held
things together and boy do I miss him .Vince called me a few weeks ago
and broke the news
He is sad and a little nervous about what the future will bring. He is
also exited about the fact that he will be able to spend time with Kimba
and Sylas. his boy is growing up fast. The last shows will be a three day
run for new years at the boulder theater I hope the boys dont get mad at
me for talking out of school here but they know I love all of them like
brothers and as they say all good things must pass s o get out there and
see them while you can !!!

Some sad news indeed. I have felt for several years that LoS embodied the spirit and soul of the festival scene. Seeing the boys play at Wakarusa should be special.

It is true. On the festival list it has been confirmed by many friends of the band who have talked to both Drew and Vince.

I think it would be smart to wait and read an official announcement from the band. Until that comes, it's not true (yet). Leftover Salmon is still a band, and they are playing at Wakarusa Festival for sure. I personally guarantee it.

They are breaking up, but they're playing the rest of their tour dates through New Years'.

Don't think they're breaking up quite yet...no other source, including anyone at LoS or jambase, can verify that...

LOS is playing Bonnaroo, Wakarusa, Mish, etc... Their last shows are NYE in Boulder at the Boulder Theater. I understand why people would look towards an official announcement as opposed some jerk off like myself posting something, but this was announced on LOS' list by trusted friends of the band. Everyone knows who they are and that they are friends with the band so it's good enough for me. I'm just letting folks know in case they want to see Salmon before they go away. The jambands.com board has a similar thread running although it's on about the 4th page by now because that board is run by 16 year olds apparently.
In any event, FESTIVAL!!!

D Gold -
The original post on this thread about LOS is from the festivalist as written by Bert verbatim. He posted to the list on Sunday. Rumors of it started on Saturday. I knew you left the list awhile back. You might want to sign back on. I think jmed (or someone else that knows Drew) also posted that he spoke with Drew. You know these guys' either personally or from the list. Very trustworthy cats. They wouldn't just start a rumor. I'm just hoping it's a nasty thought going through Vince and Drew's heads and not a reality.
How things going down in Fayetteville? I'm still picking up the Honest Tune. Great magazine. You guys' going to have a booth at Wakarusa?
For those that have read this far... Shameless plug for An Honest Tune. Great magazine. Pick it up at B&N or goto www.anhonestune.com to subscribe.

^^ Really nice post from someone I owe CD's to from like a year ago.
Matt, let's make plans to meet at Wakarusa! Can you meet me at the Revival Tent at 4:30 on Friday, before Speakeasy starts playing, somewhere near the soundboard?
 As you know I am friends with Vince and the LOS boys (having interviewed them 5 times from 1998-2004, and seen 50+ shows). It may be a true rumor, but that is not for me to say. That is for the band to say. I suggest that we all respect the band and allow them to announce what they want, when they want. Personally I am praying they will decide to take a break instead of calling it quits on the LOS name. I personally guarantee they are playing at Wakarusa. They are not done yet. Let's enjoy the FESTIVAAAAALLL!!
Giving Leftover Salmon your full support right now, and cheering like crazy at Wakarusa, is the best way to let them know how much their fans love the LOS music.
P.S. As Chandler alluded, An Honest Tune \"The Southern Journal Of Jam\" is a magazine I write for. The mag has been covering Leftover Salmon and the jamband community for over 7 years. It is the only mag that has had LOS on the front cover, and had numerous interviews and feature stories.
http://www.anhonesttune.com/images/aht44.jpg I promise that AHT will provide the finest in-depth coverage and personal quotes from Vince and Drew and the band, if and when they make an announcement about the future of Salmon. AHT will also be offering in-depth coverage, reviews, and photography from Wakarusa, so if you see the AHT photographer (butterfly t-shirt) be sure to smile for the camera! Subscribe now on our website to get the new issue for free (with The Radiators on the cover; Wakarusa Summer Festival Preview article inside). Link in my sig. http://anhonesttune.com
Find me at Wakarusa and ask for An Honest Tune. I will give you a cupon for a free issue. I am not selling anything at Wakarusa but I will be giving away free magazines.

What about Salmonfest this year, any word on if that's going to happen?
A note from Leftover Salmon
We are aware of the rumors that have been circulating over the past few
weeks and would like to let everyone know what's going on so there is no
confusion. The band is indeed going to take a break at the end of this year.
After years of touring everyone is ready for some time off to spend with
their families and to pursue solo projects that Salmon's busy schedule has
not permitted. As of right now the future of Leftover Salmon is uncertain
but the band is not breaking up, just taking a break.
Mark wanted us to continue after he left the band and that's what we did. We
have toured just as hard, rebuilt the band and put out a new record. Now we
feel that we can take a break without letting him down.
We're all very proud of our latest release, \"Leftover Salmon,\" and after
experiencing so many ups and downs, it feels right to step back while on
this high. We want to thank the Salmon family, our friends, and especially
our fans as this dream would have never come true if it wasn't for you. We
look forward to seeing your faces as we continue to perform in various
projects and hope you will all support our decisions and future ventures.
This band has created a lifetime of memories for us and that is something
that can never go away. The Festivaaal will go on.
We will be performing several shows and festivals throughout the summer and
play our 3rd annual Halloween celebration at the Fillmore Auditorium in
Denver on Saturday October 30th this year. After that, the final show will
be New Year's Eve which marks 15 years to the date of the first Leftover
Salmon performance. We are excited to reach such a milestone and hope all
who can will join us this New Year's. Check our web site for
details-to-come.

hopefully that will be an answer to any rumors, and adds all the more significance to LOS sets at Wakarusa. I'm making plans to attend LOS NYE as well in Colorado, 15 years to the day since their formation.

This can't be correct. I moved to Seattle from Colorado in 1990, and I saw LOS in Boulder many times before moving to Seattle. I would guess they started playing together no later than '88. There was Lefthand String Band, a Drew thing, and Salmonheads, a Vince thing, and when they combined it was Leftover Salmon. This was definitely late 80's. If anything, New Years would be 20 years since inception.
And not to bum anyone out or anything, but I've always been much happier seeing Drew with other combos. Vince can be fun, I'll say that, but Drew is a powerhouse and it serves him and his fans well to see him play with other musicians. LOS has been rehashing old material for long enough. I concur with their decision to move on, which they've been doing for a number of years now, anyway (aside from random tours and gigs). Cheers to new and better jams!

Good point. LOS have \"broken up\" before, but tend to revisit it after awhile. I think they'll play some gigs again somewhere down the line.
Drew has a new album out and is touring. I'll be seeing him at Yarmony in less than two weeks!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is an old thread. I believe this thread is from the last time they broke up. Last time I checked, they are still together and are playing at Mulberry this fall.

True. It is an old thread and bogmonkey is trying to get a rise out of ya.
This thread came back from the depths. Hopefully we'll be seeing a thread like this regarding Phish in the near future.
