I went the second and third years before I atended wakw
It was a great time but I heard there was a lot of excessive police activity last year which brought on a lot of fake police activity as well.
the same will probab;y go for this year but as long as you are there for the music and play by the rules you'll have a blast. But make sure you camp on high ground cause thelast s-camp I went to a tornado and flash flood system came through .
they told everyone on sunday, I think to leave immediately, and in a flash flood before that a ton of peoples camp sites were destroyed.
It was always a good time for me.

Don't waste your time or $$ to travel to Scamp when there are so many better fests/locations to go to if you are going to travel a bit. Not to mention the promoters of Scamp really don't care about their customers. They are driven more greatly by the $$$ (to greed stricken levels) than anything else and it shows in numerous ways. They have had the opportunity to really make the central IL area into a great music scene, but have failed miserably. They are businessmen first, caring about the music and their patrons at a distant second. JMO

here is a review of the year I went 2003
http://www.revolutionslive.com/review-summercamp03.htm

I had a blast, I really, really did
I almost went the year of the storm & yeah the promoters and local authorities totally screwed that up---made everyone leave the campground but didnt give any directions or info on where to go to be safe (are all those people any better off out driving around on roads they dont know if a tornado comes?)
However I never ever heard that it flooded, I heard they made everyone leave and most people never came back because they assumed it was all cancelled (when in fact the fest resumed a few hours later)
There are TWO hotels nearby (across the street and catty corner) one will be SOLD OUT already (promoters and bands rent the whole thing) the other one is owned by Indians and is run down...
but the year I was there there was ABSOLUTELY NO RUNNING WATER ANYWHERE, so you might like the run down indian place as a source of water if nothing else...
it's in a CITY PARK, not a state park or rec area so there is no infrastructure or amenities in place to make camping more pleasant*
The criticism of JAYTV (the promoters) is probably accurate based on what I have seen.... HOWEVER it didnt affect my experience at all in 2003--I had a blast!! --an amazing time
so,
If I could go back and replicate that crazy good fun I'd do it in a minute
(the GF and I are considering going this year but it's tough bc we want to do Jazz Fest too, and of course, we're going to Waka)

*-Note: Unless they've changed it you have to park out by the road and walk a LONG WAY into where you'll set up camp--you do NOT camp next to your car (like waka) --the shuttle is a hay-wagon & tractor (no ****)

Yes the lack of carside camping keeps me from going back and I only live like an hour away

I gave up on Summer Camp after the year of the storm.....that was just an awful mess and the promoters handled it about as bad as anyone could. Went the 2 years before that though and had a blast for sure.

If moe. is your thing, you'll enjoy Summer Camp....I've never been a moe. fan...so kind a bummer to have them headlining both nights.

Also, they charge extra for the late night shows, and admission is limited.

And you aren't supposed to bring you're own beer in. Have to try and sneak it in...we had a hell of a time trying to get it in one year.

yes that kind of sucks, as I recall there was music going on for free in the campground?--but it was just a nice bluegrass jam? -the year I was there the security just left about half way through particle so a bunch of people got in their late set for free

I went to scamp last year and had an amazing time. It is true though that you have to walk from your car to the camping area, and you arn't \"supposed\" to bring in any outside alchohol either. Last year there was a fairly large police presence, but the majority of the people who got in trouble were selling glass which is apparently illegal in that area, as previously stated if your going for the music it is well worth the cost and trip.

I think Summer Camp is hit or miss for people. I went lastyear (my frist time) and had a great time. That being said I pretty much went for Umphreys cuz they are hands down my favorite band right now. The Camping is cool if you get there early and camp in the woods, camping in the open must suck, wind rain etc. As for Jay I hear he is kinda weak in money terms, parking was 5 bucks or something...and the latenight shows are 10 and i think its only 800-1000 people that get to go in. if you buy beer there its around $20 for a 12 pack. That being said I had a really fun time and I like the smallness of it. I will mostlikely be going back just to see Umphreys.

What difference does it make whether its owned by Indians or not?

Nothing but love though...just a thought

believe it or not I was designating which one's which because I dont remember the names of either place, you would thus wise know, because
Apu answers the phone EVERYTIME you call,
http://simpsonovi.comics.cz/13/zaletnik_apu.jpg that way you know you got the right place...
but if you havent noticed indian owned hotels tend to be ratty, then you dont travel much
personally I dont care, I am far from picky, and I'd way rather the indians came over here and made jobs by owning businesses than to have multi-national corporations keep exporting our jobs to india...
I believe in 100% open immigration to this country, you wont find many that are gutsy enough to say that, so dont make me out like a bigot--I aint.
Has anyone else noticed that Indian hotels also tend to have names like, American Eagle, Patriot Inn, Red White & Blue Motel, etc---like I said I dont care, but they seem to think we'll care... As soon as they get their citizenship they all put up signs that say this
http://www.kennethsenglishschool.com/images/american%20owned%20headline.gif Again I dont care, and my noticing things like that is the outcome of my brain never ceasing to spin its hard-drive not the result of hateful judgements---get over it.
