i have read a couple of posts about getting more reggae to the festival (and a little discussion about what would be nice bands to have between JustBob and me) - so here's the chance to put it all together. i'll just do my list somewhat alphabetically for lack of creativity:
the abysinnians
alpha blondy
horace andy
big youth
ken boothe
burning spear
johnny clarke
the congos
dillinger
linton kwesi johson
the mighty diamonds
lee 'scratch' perry
rico rodriguez
max romeo
the skatalites
sly & robbie / black uhuru
toots and the maytals
u roy
the wailers
the wailing souls
and these are just the jamaicans (well except for alpha blondy of course) and i personally would argue the best fit by far for this kind of festival would be the SKATALITES. but here are some US bands that would also be a nice fit (and cheaper to fly in):
the slackers
the new york ska jazz ensemble
hepcat
the drastics
easy star allstars (i did not even know but it seems they are performing? anybody know anything more? i always thought that was just a one-time project for dub-side of the moon)
and some european bands that might be too hard to get over here but that interested music fans will have to check out:
TRYO
mano chao
court jesters crew
babylon circus
dr. ring ding
misty in roots
soooo many more, but i will leave it at that for now. feel free to ask for additional information on any of these...
