Ok....Long time reader first time poster.

1.This forum is pretty cool, yet some what surprising. Why are there so few of us reading or posting to it? We (meaning my girlfriend and I, Marylandchic, to those who have been here a while), found out about Wakarusa almost eintirely through this website and others on the net. Which leads me into my next question, just how many people can we really expect? I mean there are alot of vague numbers being thrown around, just curious. I mean if you cats are selling a 20,000-30,000 tickets shouldn't some more kids be posting or atleast stopping by the forums?

2. Dont mean to be a mr. schedule or anything, but we have a long ass drive from MD and the last thing we want to run into is Bonaroo like conditions getting in. Don't get me wrong, we obviously expect some kind of line, but the last thing we want to experience after driving almost 24hours non stop is the anitcipation that we are almost there and then have that excitement saped away from us because we've been inline for another 10 hours just to get our wristband, let alone the other 2 hours until we can settle in and set up our stuff.

3. I don't know about you guys, but i just read some of these kids posts about this Summercamp 2004 show were all sorts of **** went down. Just tell me you guys have some safety plans in effect in the event of incliment weather. I don't know about much about the weather in the midwest, but I have seen the Wizard of Oz and Twister a few times. Just kidding, but in all honesty, are these big ass storms a common occurence?

So, yeah we are both really stoked about driving half way across the country, for what we feel is the best bang for our musical festival buck and are looking forward to seeing all you wild and crazy kids in the midwest.

Hi, jimi. The only question i'm addressing is the first one. I also post on the official new orleans jazzfest board. 30,000-80,000 folks attend that fest each day and I'd say only a couple hundred people max post on that board. I think it's those of us who love to play on puters and are really, really pumped for the music.

I had hoped someone would reply to my summer camp post to help ease my mind, but only 1 person replied.

I really hope they have some safety plan in action, as I dont want what happened at summer camp to happen at Wakarusa, or any other festival for that matter. 6 days before I left for summer camp (I think that would be may 22nd?) there was a tornado warning for douglas county, which is where lawrence is, and where Clinton Lake is. Bad weather is not out of the ordinary here.

I'm keeping good vibes out for good weather, and I hope nothing like summer camp happens, but just to be safe, I hope a plan is in place.

Good questions there my man. I too would love to know some of the answers but here is what I have been told so far.

I guess they are expecting around 10,000 people or so...from what other posts have said and all that which would make me believe that since their are few in numbers traffic won't be that much of a problem ie Bonnaroo. In regards to the whole Summercamp thing, I have talked to many of the members of the Wakarusa Team and they seem to have everything under control. Very polite and helpful individuals, so I can't really see something like Summercamp or that crap out in Virginia going down. One thing to keep in mind about Summercamp is that a huge storm came in and the members at jaytv handled it very poorly. Without a storm or something similar I don't think we have to worry about anything like that. And even if a something were to happen like that I would hope that the people running this great festival wouldn't make the same mistake. Just my 2 cents. If you want concrete answers I would talk to Team B. He is the moderator for this website and usually can tell you all you need to know.

One of the biggest issues with Summer Camp (imo) was that we had to park quite a distance from our cars. So once the decision was made to move to the cars, it was only a small jump to make everyone pull out and leave. It is my understanding (please correct me if Im wrong) that at wakarusa we will be camping next to our cars. That being the situation we can all hide out in our cars if bad weather should hit, and secondly the idea of 10000 all pulling out of camp sites in their cars would be a nightmare as opposed to vacating a parking lot.

Jeesh, could I have worded that any worse? Think you get what Im saying.

In regard to the concerns expressed here let me say this:

I am going to VERY surprised if 20-30,000 people show up, I am guessing around 10-15,000 based on a few things.

Therefore I cannot forsee a massive car pile up like Bonaroo. There is only one road directly into the Park, but there are at least three ways to access that road.

In terms of bad weather (knock on wood), while anything is possible I expect it to be humid and HOT. I live maybe a mile from the festival grounds. Tornado season is almost over and there is usually nothing but the occasional thunderstorm by the third week in June. However I am sure that the Wakarusa organizers are preparing for the worse. If there is one thing we are prepared for here, its crazy weather.

I hope you all have safe and happy travels to the Land of OZ. We'll be waiting and smiling!!!

Anyone has further concerns/questions drop me line,
DrRaoul420@aol.com

Always Peace,
Mike in Wakarusa

I would like to add to Mike's comments...

Basically, I just want to let you all know that we are doing everything in our power to make sure that this festival provides the best possible experience for everyone involved. The team is highly dedicated to the fans. Compare Wakarusa to other festivals for a second. Are we charging extra for the late night shows? No. Are we trying to cram in 100,000 people to make as much money as possible? No. Are we planning to gouge folks on food, beer, water, and other necessities? Not a chance. This is about YOU. This is about putting on a festival that will be a prime example of what is possible when you gather a group of people together that honestly care about every indidvidual experience. Sure, there will f*ck ups. We will make mistakes. We will also learn from these mistakes. Rest assured though, we are not amateurs. You're in good hands and we'll see everybody in 9 days... :D -David

Before I answer any questions, I would like to say I don't know sh....shut your mouth!

1. As for the numbers. They sold out 500 upgraded camp sites(including premium, and upgraded). I would say that up to 8 times the number of cars will be in the primitive. Then you have VIP, no idea how many are there. Also don't forget the people driving in from Lawrence and hotels. If the number is less then 20k I will crap a gold brick. Not everyone has time to sit around and post on this site. Look at the times a thread is viewed and not posted on. Check out the boobs thread. Over 200 people looked at that alone. This forum was also made long after the site was up, and some people might not even know its here. I was at the Langerado fest in Hollywood, FL. I read the forum to that site over and over, but didn't post one time. Some people just like to watch.

2. The gates should not be anything like roo. Its a numbers game again. How many people go to roo? 100k + is what I hear, but don't know for sure. We are going to be 1/3 ot 1/4 the size. This is also not a farm that they have to make into a city. This place is camp grounds with roads in place. Other then the fields for the primitive camping, its set up already.

3. Storms!!! If we get a twister, we are all fooked. You can't move 20 to 30k people to a safe place in time to get away from a twister. Your car is not a safe place. I would hope that nobody tells me to leave my stuff and drive to ???? Where am I going to go if we have to leave the sites? Where do you think you would get to if all the people leave at one time? Party in the shower/bathrooms if we get twister warnings. How many people can you fit in those buildings?

The web site, the forum, and every little thing I hear about this fest is so well planned. I don't see how summercamp like problems would happen at Waka. Just look at the forum for summer camp, the text is so small it hurts my eyes. Look at some of the other fest web sites and see what a mess and how cheap they are. Roo is the only other one I have seen thats up to spec, and its the 3rd year of it.

Sorry about being so long winded, I had nothing better to do at lunch.

You'll notice that some sort of censorship addict is deleting threads (5 that I know of), which makes our presence on this board smaller than it really is. Welcome to Communist Russia where someone else decides what your allowed to say!! (soon to be deleted)

Whatever TreyGordon. Obviously you're sore that your threads were deleted because they were either inappropriate or violated the terms of service. This is taken directly from the Registration Agreement Terms:

You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit.

When you registered to post on this message forum, you agreed to this. Period. Again, this is a MODERATED message board, not an exercise in free speech. Truthfully, the only things that have been deleted are blatant solicitations of tickets and a few other things. Everything else we leave up.

If you don't like the way that this forum is being run, then leave.

...you're sore that your threads were deleted because they were either inappropriate or violated the terms of service[/quote:2a22453f65]

And yet a thread featuring such beautifully appropriate language as the following passes your censorship test??

-DID SOMEBODY SAY SOMETHING ABOUT BIG BOOBS?

-ALL THIS TALK ABOUT BOOBS, I'M NOT DOWN BUT..............UP!!!

-Boobs are great!!! but I want to see how the garden is kept. 1. O'natural 2. manicured with a nice trim or 3. all grass removed completely.

-I know I plan to hang out with my wang out and rock out with my **** out. Peace peeps!!!!

or my personal favorite:

-I HAVE HUGE BIG BOUNCING BOOBS!! I WILL POUR BEER ALL OVER THEM AND JUMP ROAP IF YOU WANT ME TO. HA HA! SEE YOU SOON BOYS.

But then a thread offering a way to better the festival by asking if there will be wave runners available for rental is some sort of violation of a term of service thus making it a subject to be deleted? Weak.

TreyGordon:
Like I told you before, I did not personally delete your \"wave-runner\" thread or whatever you decided to post. Aparently there was something in there that someone else (such as another moderator) disagreed with. Maybe it was deleted by accident. However, instead of just taking it in stride you have decided to turn it into a huge issue. The reason that I did not remove the naked thread is because no one seemed to be offended by it. Are you? I think that a frank discussion about the acceptability of nudity at the festival is MORE THAN APPROPRIATE. And as for the posts that you have decided to quote, you seem to be the only one that takes issue with them. Let me ask you again, did you agree to this when you signed up for the forum:

You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit.

We're done now TreyGordon...If you do not agree to this stipulation, then you will be removed from the forum. It's as simple as that. This messageboard is not your personal internet playground.

Not that I mean to add any more negative vibes to this post, but to get back to one of the original subjects- the weather. I just watched the local weather long range forecast and there is a 40% chance of rain for thurs.

Weather channel said Mostly sunny both thurs and friday for Lawrence.

all I can say is poncho.

I was at the Harvest fest in fall in Live Oak FL last year, and then rain was all day every day. If you like college football, you will know the weekend well. The same time Miami beat FSU in that rain game. I was 1 hour away stitting in a folding chair, poncho over me and it with rain just a falling. I didn't miss any music because of rain. Poncho to keep me dry, rum to keep me warm.
