View Full Version : If you could add one band...
05-19-2004, 03:11 PM
I would have to pick Panic, but because that is not realistic I would have to pick MOE.
05-19-2004, 03:27 PM
1 band is much too difficult...I'd say one of these 4 #1 The Disco Biscuits,#2 Umphrey's McGee, #3 Acoustic Syndicate, or MMW!!! Any or all would be GREAT!!
05-19-2004, 04:54 PM
Metapneuma (http://www.artistlaunch.com/Metapneuma) (my band).
05-19-2004, 10:07 PM
How about some Benji Davis Project!? Maybe next year please.
05-20-2004, 10:26 AM
SCI or YMSB but there busy
Of the acts that are touring this summer that don't seem to have prior committments.

05-21-2004, 08:17 AM
05-21-2004, 02:18 PM
The Wailers, Steel pulse, Ziggy, or Burning Spear, where is the reggae music for this fest. Maybe they can book them all for Sundays 2nd stage.
05-21-2004, 07:10 PM
2) Umphrey's Mcgee
05-26-2004, 09:36 PM
Cross Canadian Ragweed
05-27-2004, 01:51 AM
The Gaskets, without a doubt!
05-27-2004, 10:59 AM
I wish Rev. Horton Heat was still on.
05-27-2004, 03:58 PM

05-27-2004, 08:33 PM
Big Smith and Jervis Jort!!!
The Wailers, need some Reggae
05-29-2004, 08:53 PM

did somebody say WEEN!
05-30-2004, 12:58 AM
WE've got Robert Randolph, we've got North Mississsippi Allstars. All we need to have a Word show is Medeski, Martin and Wood.
05-30-2004, 02:01 PM
man this is an easy one....
STEVE KIMOCK BAND!!!!!!!!

I would have to go with Little Feat
06-02-2004, 08:32 PM
Del McCoury Band
(ok really: moe.)
WILLIE WALDMAN PROJECT <these guys are amazing!> :D
06-05-2004, 12:36 PM
definitely would kill to see Widespread but Moe. would be awesome.
Wailers were signed on in the beginning but they backed out. :-P
06-07-2004, 10:26 AM
They'll be here in Minneapolis on Friday the 18th with David Byrne. Disappointed to be missing 'em.
06-07-2004, 10:27 AM
Um, that'd be Antibalas I was referring to (see subject line.)
bela Fleck. they'll be a the bluegrass fest in CO. They are also playing on Monday I believe in Lawrence! Anyone who can make it should check em out. AMAZING!!
06-08-2004, 11:32 AM
The only bummer of this show is no MMW. THEY ARE MY FAVORITE!
06-08-2004, 11:56 AM
I agree with molitoth
Rusted Root would be so fun!!!
Also any reggae, homegrown hip hop, or world
I'm sad there is none :(
06-08-2004, 01:38 PM
Also any reggae, homegrown hip hop, or world
I am probably going to bring some \"world\" instruments of my own (djembe, didjeridu, berimbau, maybe more), so if you run into my friends and I maybe you'll get to hear SOME kind of \"world\" type stuff.
Dgold at An Honest Tune

I HIGHLY recommend The Motet for all you world music fans. They have like 3 drummers including all the drum-types you listed above. They also incorporate soul, reggae, rock, New Orleans, jazz, and jam, into their Afro-Cuban-World music stew.
And YES, they will be at Wakarusa!! Don't miss The Motet!!
06-08-2004, 10:47 PM
The best thing about the Motet is that they all play drums. Sometimes they will all pick up a drum or something and about 6 of them are just on precussion. They do that in the middle of a song, or just start songs like that. Mind blowing. Also, they share the Sax Player with Robert Walters. Cochemea Gastelum is one of the best sax players I have ever heard live.
06-09-2004, 02:34 PM
06-09-2004, 04:19 PM
Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem
06-10-2004, 12:28 PM
Like someone earlier said, Widespread Panic, but that aint happenin. So i was have to add Gov't Mule.
06-10-2004, 12:54 PM
Starship reunion tour! \"We built this city on Rock and Roll!\"
06-10-2004, 01:13 PM
I would have to say The Mule without a doubt, Yeah!
06-10-2004, 02:30 PM
Gov't Mule would be awesome for sure.. then we could have warren haynes gettin' on stage and playing with tons on bands :D
hey, has anyone said Dave Matthews Band yet? just kidding :P
Can we vote for who we would remove?
I really don't understand the hype around these guys. Why are they one of the top billed bands at this festival?
06-10-2004, 04:28 PM
I forgot they were going to be there
do they play any other festivals?
I remember having to watch them open for 311 a couple years back at City Market
06-10-2004, 07:52 PM
samiam do you read Blender? They voted that song as the worse song ever in the last issue. lol
06-10-2004, 08:36 PM
How about Deep Fried!
06-15-2004, 01:32 AM
06-15-2004, 01:11 PM
Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch
06-17-2004, 10:55 PM
Spoonfed Tribe - without a doubt. These guys could rock all night long.
06-20-2004, 01:07 PM
GROOVATRON AND UMPHREY'S MCGEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![/b]
06-21-2004, 10:09 AM
The festival was great. I would like to see Ben Harper added next year.
First choice would be MORE Sound Tribe... I saw them for the first time this weekend and I gotta say I have a new favorite band. Absolutely genius. Incredible.
After that would probably be Medeski, Martin & Wood.. Or Vida Blue..
06-21-2004, 05:08 PM
Rusted Root for sure!!!
Medeski, Martin & Wood
-just to name a few.
06-22-2004, 11:07 AM
Peter Rowan should have been there sitting in with different bands!!!
06-22-2004, 04:43 PM
Gomez or MMW
06-23-2004, 12:55 AM
06-23-2004, 06:35 AM
Luther Wright & the Wrongs
06-23-2004, 12:31 PM
moe. would be excellent, late night show a la bonnaroo 2002. Those guys ripped it up til about 5:30am
String Cheese is never a bad addition
Karl Denson would be sweet just because he would go play all over the place
Ben Harper acoustic
I would have loved to see Susan Tadeschi (sp?) with Derek Trucks band
06-23-2004, 01:42 PM
I forgot 1......
As I sit here typing this, my upstairs neighbor is picking his banjo and tapping his foot literally right over my head. Thankfully, he's really good. Check out his band: http://www.kwaitbrothers.com/.
They'd fit in nicely I think.
08-04-2004, 01:47 PM
WSP for the HEADLINER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
08-15-2004, 09:37 AM
no no no my friends, look at these guys
www.rhythmship.com they are low in the scene right now but these guys are the new up and coming legendary band of the new millenium.
12-13-2004, 12:01 PM
Loco Macheen!
Trey Anastasion Band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
01-20-2005, 11:23 PM
Widespread Panic needs to play this festival. They were the only thing missing last year.
01-21-2005, 08:47 AM
1. Big Smith (Springfield, MO)
2. The Wilders (Kansas City)
3. PoDank String Band (Tulsa OK)
I love that old timey, hillbilly stuff...
01-21-2005, 12:46 PM
Awwww...Mitch! A man after my heart! Another group we have in common :D . The Wilder's are great! It's cool to have someone so good be local. I just got turned on to some of the old-timey music this past year by a good friend of mine. I'm even listening to Ralph Stanley right now.
There are quite a few groups I'm anxious to see at Wakarusa. Ones I've never heard of before,
but who sound great from the clips I've found.....Jeff and Vida, Son Volt, Railroad Earth, Junior Brown.
Then there are the ones I've seen & want more of....... I already am a fanatic for Split Lip!!! Them boys is too much fun! And then there's Donna, Hackensaw Boys & Truckstop Honeymoon. Dang.....how long until June???
01-21-2005, 03:24 PM
Yeah, you right...about the Wilders! I'm headed to Lawrence in a couple of weeks to catch 'em at the Free State Music Festival (Feb. 5 and 6)
I am an even bigger fan of Donna the Buffalo. I have been chasing them around the country for a couple of years now...
Have also seen the Hackesaw Boys several times back in Virginia and at last year's Waka.
Well the list goes on and on...
The music never stops.
01-21-2005, 03:58 PM
I'm hoping to make one of their shows that weekend also, Mitch. It will be a pre-birthday celebration for me :D . Hoping everything lines up just right so I can go!
I listened to some Big Smith clips after reading your post earlier......LOVE 'EM! I bet they put on a fun show! Maybe I'll make a trip to Springfield someday to dance to some good 'ole hillbilly music :P .
01-21-2005, 04:06 PM
The Wilders headline Friday nite (10:30) and play two sets Saturday nite
(3:00 and 9:00) at Free State Music Fest.
I strongly advise seeing Big Smith live. Some of the best family harmonies you'll hear this side of the Missisippi. Big Smith usually make a Kansas City run during the summer...Most likely at Davey's Uptown Ramblers Club...the best bar in Kansas City for live music and cheap drinks!
01-21-2005, 04:13 PM
Oh yeah! I've been to Davey's quite a few times this last year & heard lots of great bands! Split Lip, Meat Purveyor's, Rex Hobart, Dale Watson
It is THE place for live music!
I'll definitely keep my eyes open for Big Smith. Or take that road trip :D
01-22-2005, 07:18 AM
Let me know if you plan to go see the Wilders at Free State Music Fest. It is always fun to put a face with an email...
01-22-2005, 08:08 AM
Another band to think about adding: The Mammals
They are really jamming more than ever, I think they would be a hit at Wakarusa (they were definently a hit at last years MagFest in Florida, JustBob did ya see em?). The Mammals are led by Ruth Ungar (Jay Ungar's daughter) on vox/fiddle/uke and Michael Merenda on guitar and clawhammer banjo, both great singer/songwriters, and Tao Rodriguez-Seeger (grandson of Pete Seeger) on banjo/guitar/vox.
\"Hey Mr. President who had his big brother push him through
Your daughter's drunk, your other daughter's drunk, your daddy's rich & you are, too!
'lectric car is gagged and bound, you're burning wind mills to the ground
and California's solar panels are in the White House lost & found!
We all gotta fill the tank
When it's 15 bucks a gallon we'll have you to thank\"
- Ruth Ungar and Michael Merenda
01-22-2005, 02:25 PM
Did I catch the Mammals? Only 3 times on stage and one big jam in the camp sites.
See if you can pick out The Mammals, The Duhks, and Jeff Mosier in the circle of pickers from my pictures.
I'm now a lifetime fan of both The Mammals and The Duhks. I cought 4 shows of the Duhks and can't wait to see them at SpringFest. It would kick ass to see The Mammals at Waka.
Welcome back to the Waka board FstvlGrl, I loved your pictures from last year.
01-26-2005, 11:07 PM
We should get mem shannon there
01-27-2005, 09:57 PM
01-28-2005, 09:34 AM
I heard a rumor that Phil and friends are a possibility. They would absolutely rock! Black crowes will be circulating around now that the're reunited. These would be two different bands I would love to see there. As far as last year returnees, Keller and Galactic would be my top choices!!
01-28-2005, 10:18 AM
This year we need the Ben/Russo Duo again. They were the SH#T last year, completly rocked my face. Loved the fact that they were Thurs night, lots of room to move and groove. Stanton can come and play with them again, and oh yeah...how about that Mike Gordon guy (heard he's pretty good)
01-28-2005, 11:35 AM
I would have to agree that Phil Lesh and Friends would make a mighty fine addition to the lineup. I recently acquired all three Warfield Theater shows (12/17-19/2004) and they are stellar. With Railroad Earth on this year's bill, part of Phil's Warfield \"friends\" will already be here!
Last year's Galactic sets blew my mind. Stanton Moore is a skin poundin' genius! Bring on the boys from New Orleans!
The Be Sharps
01-28-2005, 03:20 PM
What about the Black Keys? They would be pretty sweet addition that would fit the current bill.
01-29-2005, 09:33 AM
Les Claypool in any mutant form
01-29-2005, 10:04 AM
I'm in agreement with that ^^^^^^^ Les is ALWAYS welcome 8)
The Be Sharps
01-29-2005, 12:04 PM
The Phix would be a cool addition. They would make for a pretty sweet set. I've seen them a couple of times and they cover Phish about as well as anyone can.
01-29-2005, 01:05 PM
The Black Mutha****in' Crowes. This festival is in dire need of some kick ass rock n' roll music. Thank God for the NMA addition.
The Be Sharps
01-29-2005, 07:57 PM
The Black Crowes would be amazing. I totally agree with you that there needs to be more rock bands at the festival. I still think the Black Keys would be great.
01-30-2005, 11:00 PM
I don't know what their schedule looks like, but if they're available it would be awesome to get them booked. They are straight smokin'!
01-31-2005, 10:46 AM
Any touring members of Phish or the Grateful Dead.
Benevneto Russo Duo
Steve Kimock and Friends
I can think of a lot more but these top my list.
01-31-2005, 11:33 AM
If I could add more acts I'd add more organic electronica . . .
DJ Mark Farina
and also . . .
The Disco Biscuits (or related side project)
The Flaming Lips (is it just a dream?)
But already based on the lineup so far, I'm definitely there.
01-31-2005, 08:26 PM

Amen to that, kcdg
02-01-2005, 11:57 AM

02-07-2005, 05:31 PM
AMEN to the D!!!
02-09-2005, 01:43 PM
widespread panic also, although this is not feasible... therefore, I'd have to say Moe. , the Disco Biscuits, and MMW
02-09-2005, 05:10 PM
How about Chicago Afrobeat Project?? I just saw em at JazzHaus in Lawrence.......great world grooves.
02-10-2005, 01:29 AM
Whatever Claypool is doing the weekend of Wakarusa.
02-10-2005, 01:30 PM
You guys gotta add Jeff Scheetz Band. They kick. Rock and blues. A fun time will be had by all, GUARANTEE! www.jeffscheetz.com
02-11-2005, 05:33 PM
The Gourds put on a hell of a show in Houston a couple weeks ago. Terri Hendrix with Lloyd Maines got going on. I also like a band called Cast Iron Filter. Saw Paul Jackson with the Headhunters In Dallas. Paul Jackson played some sick stuff.
02-15-2005, 11:36 PM

02-16-2005, 01:49 PM
[quote:deebe5478c=\"TheFunky1\"]North Mississippi All-Stars[/quote:deebe5478c]
They are already playing the fest.
02-17-2005, 07:49 AM
Moe but if we were to go a little outside the genre of most Wakarusa type bands I would pick TOOL. May be a little more intense music but it does have it's hippie psycadelic side to it as well.
 The Steve Kimock Band
Please!! THAT's what this festivals needs.....add them, and ticket sales will jump.
02-17-2005, 12:54 PM
where's Robert Randolph and the Family Band at?? He's not even scheduled to be at Bonnaroo. Claypool would be cool too. i could go on and on i guess
02-17-2005, 02:01 PM
I meant North Mississippi Allstars Hill Country Revue (that would be with Chris Robinson)
02-17-2005, 05:05 PM
02-24-2005, 11:37 AM
Speakeasy would be a really great addition!!!
02-24-2005, 03:33 PM
A band that I would like to see once again is GROOVATRON. I saw these guys at a schwagstock last summer and there name is very appropriate. After seeing them I looked them up and found out they were from my hometown in IN before moving to MO, crazy! Check them out @ www.groovatron.com
03-01-2005, 09:06 PM
DJ Mark Farina
Ming + FS
03-02-2005, 10:24 AM

03-28-2005, 03:00 AM
03-28-2005, 10:06 AM

03-28-2005, 03:36 PM
Did somebody say Woodbox Gang?
03-28-2005, 08:46 PM
BRIGHT EYES........ BRIGHT EYES........ BRIGHT EYES........ BRIGHT EYES........ BRIGHT EYES........
i second the regional bands suggestion...
03-29-2005, 04:24 PM
Forget about Bright Eyes, Metapneuma (http://www.artistlaunch.com/metapneuma) is a WAY better Omaha band.

GWAR GWAR GWAR
04-10-2005, 06:09 PM
definitely FORGET about Bright Eyes. Wakarusa doesnt need any depressing emo music. Nature, camping, and great jambands wouldnt really mix well with crying about your girlfriend.......
04-12-2005, 12:16 PM
Panic would be my first pick, moe. is great. But what about blues bands, some really jam and the diversity of bands that are brought in would make it a natural. Someone like James Solberg or Rod Piazza. Love the blues.
04-12-2005, 01:26 PM
04-16-2005, 03:22 PM
Add the wildman \"Willie Waldman Project\". Best trumpet player today.
04-16-2005, 11:24 PM
come on teamB lobby this one for us, please?
04-17-2005, 01:17 AM
clam_baker11.... BRIGHT EYES will be here on the 28th of this month.......
at the UPTOWN... love him :!:
04-17-2005, 11:17 AM
i hope you enjoy the show lifeseeker, i just dont think they'd fit well at this kind of festival. during the first two years of bonnaroo, organizers were trying to shy away from angst-ridden bands and I think Waka should do the same. It needs to remain a positive minded fest. anyway, peace.
