Some bands we know what we are going to get. Some bands are improving each year. Which band could be stepping up to a new level & is going to surprise us this year.
My vote is for the Gourds. When i saw them last year they were good but with the New album Blood of the Ram & i saw them a few weeks ago i thought they set it up a notch.

If you like Mofro, JJ with the Greyhounds will be a treat. That is if they play a little together.

How 'bout Green Lemon? They played at Waka last year, and were good, but they have a new guitarist that is absolutely sick. Watch out for 'em...they could just be that SuRpRiSe band. If you've never heard their music, you can check it out by clicking on the links below.

Mofro is one of the reason i'm making the trip to Kansas. He may not be that well known but i can relate so much to his song writing. He is just a country boy living in Flordia & he loves it so much & it is just get taken away from him by development. I talked to J.J. at the Gypsy Tea Room in Dallas & i didn't even know who he was until a couple girls came up & started talking to him. He had just came from Wakarusa & i told him i grew up just 40 miles from there & how beatiful the country was up there. He said he loved Kansas & the people from there were great. He didn't seem to care for the tornado sierns to much.

3. Wilco/Son Volt - I smell an Uncle Tupelo reincarnation brewing!
Having said this, it will all be good!

Mofro....Just saw them at the Bottleneck last week. They are absolutely amazing. They're the kind of band you love to see at a small venue like the Bottleneck. I don't remember them being as amazing at Bonnaroo last year in the big tent.

If you are into drum and bass/hip hop I think Sacred Science would blows some heads. The beats Saxton spins are dope & Scottrohedrons lyrics are tight.
This is assuming the DJ tent happens & they book Sacred Science.

i'd have to agree with Denise. Sacred Science would be sick, whenever i have them playing people are like \"who is this?\" \"i like it!\" i hope they get added for sure.

The Big Wu will rock. They need to play the late night. They will be good anytime but of course allowing us to get a good alchohol base will only help me jam.

Hey just...Where did you see/hear Donna the Buffalo? Just curious. My wife and I have been following this band around for the past 3 years.
We're headed to Columbia and St. Louis this weekend to catch their Missouri run.

I think TEA LEAF GREEN played a solid short-set last year, but they've grown leaps and bounds in 2005 already. They have dozens of new songs since last year, some really good material. I'd like to see them play a longer set and turn some heads.

pfft, you guys dont even know.
Y'all its gonna be STS9 that is going to put on the best show of the festival.
This is their year, they are tearing it down, changing, evolving, and blowing up.

Let's make it up to STS9 and their fans for last year's rained out late-night by letting them play as often and as long as they want! I gotta say it won't be a \"surprise\" performance, though, because anyone with a lick of sense knows that they'll put on the best show of the fest!
yes yes I am sure STS9 will put on the best show of Wakarusa. i just hope they get to play two or three time slots including both a daytime and a late night show - that would be so dope. please please. thanks Waka folks. :D
peace,

Cheese wants to be sound tribe. Listen to cheese shows leading up to 9-6-03 (first time they played together) and then listen to cheese shows since. sts9 is where its at and cheese is trying not to miss the bus.
I could even handle these bands playing at the same time so I could have more room up front at the 9!

sharebear is right, cheese obviously loves and envies the 9. if they could only get out of that silly trance they might be able to evolve a little. until then they will keep playing their roll over>rivertrance and all that bs. my vote is for the 9.

Umphreys will be the best band at Waka but Perpetual Groove, Railroad Earth, Matisyahu, Garaj Mahal, and Rose Hill Drive might surprise some people.

i agree with mayski and umphreak. people obviously don't know what they're about to get hit with. UMPHREY'S WILL ROCK OUR COLLECTIVE SOCKS OFF. oh yeah, and ladies, if you are ovulating, you might keep you're distance from the stage. umphreys rock is so potent, it could get you pregnant.
lookin forward to sunday's galactic funk also

I just watched some of an Umphrey's DVD, and now I'm a little more excited to hear them. I still can't get into the vocals, but their jamming is great...I love it when bands throw in more of a progressive sound.

Yeah, Umphrey's vocals kinda turn me off, but they can rock.
Get this! I think both cheese AND sts9 are gonna put on fckin awesome shows, and i don't anticipate gettin much sleep at all!

I'm looking for Railroad Earth to turn some heads. I saw them in Philly and NYC early in the year, and a couple of shows in Colorado last month. I was stoked to see them on the list for Waka! Ready for another New Monsoon too!
