Tim in Ames here. I get out to a decent number of shows in Ames, and a some shows in Des Moines too. Let me know if you are headed up this way. I'd be interested in tagteaming any promo ideas anyone has and would enjoy the chance to meet my fellow street teamers if we're headed to any of the same shows. Drop me an email at tjrasm@qwest.net with any show plans.

Hi...I'm Jen from Cedar Rapids. I think I may know the cat from IC, how long have you worked at the Green Room?

I wanted to take a moment and say what's shakin'? I'm totally ready to get this started...Have any of you received the promo digs yet? I'm looking forward to having something to show...but word of mouth is spreading like wild fire. I know I will be at as many shows as I can possibly handle, over the next couple of months. I'm really looking forward to Yonder Mountain playing at the IMU ballroom, April 28...I love the strings. I'm looking forward to sharing groove and creating the scene.

I'm a collective individual who enjoys all perspectives...when we get out there and get truly started...I hope it's cool if I share what's working for me. I hope to have my eyes opened, by the shared experiences, forsure! I will try and keep everyone posted as to the shows I'm hitting up!

Peace

I have been working at The Green Room for roughly 8 months now, great gig. Seen a lot of great music because of it, worked the Lonnie Brooks show last Saturday and it was a blast to get to hang out with a blues legend. We have some hot show coming up too. Look out for:
THE DREW EMMITT BAND - 3/24/2005
New Monsoon/Signal Path- 3/30/2005
MELVIN SPARKS - 3/31/2005
OTEIL BURBRIDGE AND THE PEACEMAKERS- 4/2/2005
SHANTI GROOVE - 4/7/2005

I will be handing out flyers at most of these, except for Melvin and Oteil, as I will be out in Utah seeing some Cheese! So I will take some flyers out to Morman land. Really looking forward to seeing Drew in such a small club, interviewed him last Friday and said he redid Out in the Woods for his new all string group.

I will be at Ari Hest (who is playing Wakarusa) at Peoples, Ames, March 28th. drop me a line at tjrasm@qwest.net if you're going to be there.

A little more obscure, Larry Myer is playing a solo acoustic show in Nevada, IA (small town 7 miles east of Ames). Don't know why this show is happening, but I will be there on April 2nd. I've lived in Ames a lot of years, and I've never gone to Nevada to see a show.

Hey all you Iowans. Just wanted to let you know that you should check out the Des Moines Music Coalition's website desmoinesmc.com. It has a great music calendar & has been working really hard (& successfully) to bring in more great music to the area. It has been involved in bringing in MOE, Charlie Hunter Trio, The Wailers (Hotel Fort Des Moines in April) and many more. Check it out.

Any of you from Des Moines, let me know if you have received posters & we can coordinate where we hang them.

Take care,
Monica

Also, Melvin Sparks is playing on Thursday night. My boyfriend says he has heard good things about him, but has never heard him play either.

Anyone know what's up with these bands???

Hey! Does anyone know if/when Shanti Groove and Cornmeal are playing in Iowa City?

On Jambase it used to say that it they're both playing at the Green Room this Thursday (the 7th).

The Green Room's website says Shanti Groove is playing (without Cornmeal) on the 7th.

And now Jambase says that Shanti Groove is playing there on the 14th.

What's going on?????
Jim, do you know what's up?
If not, I guess I\"ll just have to call The Green Room.....

Shant Groove cancelled due to Panic being here this weekend in Chicago. They are playing an after hours Del show though, I think the 14th is right, so look out for me and Wakarusa forms.

jmo
04-16-2005, 03:00 PM
Jim: were you still at Shanti Groove when some of the boys from Del showed up??? Rita convinced them to play a few songs with the band. It was bad ass! The mandolin, bass, and banjo player all sat in. The guys from Shanti Groove had the cheesiest smiles on their faces --- they had to feel so good having guys from Del McCoury show up and then jump on stage with them! Sure made my night!!! I love the mandolin player from Del McCoury!

Know I dont feel so bad telling people \"you never know what could happen\" as I handed out some flyers for that and Wakarusa!

I'm thinking about going to YMSB, but I'm not crazy about the IMU. The Wailers sounded great in Davenport last week. Hope that you all have the chance to check them out. What else is going on these days? Anyone headed to Chi-town for the weekend?

Feeling kinda sorry for myself (I'm good at that sometimes :) ) I have a test tommorrow morning that I haven't had the chance to study for yet... so I am missing Yonder Mountain String Band right now. Would have studied earlier, but I had an oral exam in Spanish earlier today that I'd been practicing for all week... Stopped in John's Grocery on the way home from my night class and saw a bunch of people buying liquor to sneak into the show. What was I buying? Trash bags, t.p., and some Ben and Jerry's ice-cream... woohoo

On the brighter side of things, I will be going to Exodus Music Festival this weekend, which is just outside of Iowa City. Good local bands playing, camping, alcohol, and friends.... should be a good time. Anyone else going? Jim, are you???

I know it's been a while, but I'm back to share a cucial bit of info for all us iowa folks. I don't know how many of you have been to Bob's Briar Patch before but it is one of the chillest venues for live music in iowa. It is about 20 minutes south of Des Moines and features camping and mostly local live music during the summer. The first bob's fest this year will be on the 4th of june, which would be a great time to get together before Waka and get to know one another. Basicly, anyone who is within driving distance of Des Moines ought to check it out. I'll post more as the event draws near, but remember to keep your calenders free.

Bob usually does a good job about boking music. He wants to get Dark Star Orchestra this year or next, but til then it's mostly local bands like floodplane, cornmeal, Shbabo, etc. The stage is actually the back porch of Bob's house, so don't expect 50 ft. speaker stacks. But he has a good tract of land and plenty of space to camp and dance, and I would say it is one of the more intimate locals to enjoy live music. Admitance is usually $10 so i'm sure most of us can afford it. Not a bad price for live music all night and the fun of camping with your buds.

So, for a bit of an update concerning the upcoming Bob's Briar Patch show on the 4th of june... It looks like Mr. Baber's Neighbors is headlining so to speak. Also appearing... Rob Lumbard, Mike and Amy Finders Band, Trampled By Turtles, and many more. Cost is $10 which includes camping for the night, so bring your tents and make sure they are still in shape for Wakarusa. Info about the event can be found Here (http://www.jambase.com/search.asp?eventID=311376).
As far as other upcoming shows are concerned. Umphrey's McGee and Floodplane, 2 Waka bands will be preforming 6/2 at Simon Estes. Floodplane and The Samples(Also at Waka) will be at Simon Estes on the 10th. Info about Simon estes and Nitefall on the River can be found Here (http://www.ci.des-moines.ia.us/departments/pr/nitefall.htm) Tickets are $8. Baber's Neighbors will play in the East Village on the 3rd, as a part of the \"East Village Blooms and Blues fest\" following a preformance by Fat Tuesday and the Greasefire Horns at the State Historical Building. Not as bad as last year where there was a tornado, but yeah the weather was a little uncooperative. Still, It was a fun time, a little water never hurt anyone. Plenty of frolicing in the rain and dancing naked in the mud.
