View Full Version : Split Lip 2 More Times!
10-05-2006, 07:17 PM
They are finishing it all off here in KS! Yahoooo!
December 1 at Liberty in Lawrence
December 7....OR December 8 (I've seen it listed with both dates in a couple places) at the Cotillion in Wichita
What a way to finish the ride! I'm there, you know it!
10-06-2006, 07:21 AM
I think I'm gonna make the Champian show !
Only 3.5 hrs for me.
10-06-2006, 12:33 PM
me and my dad are gonna be at the champaign show too
I wish they would play canopy instead of highdive
but ill bet highdive is more profitable
10-06-2006, 12:52 PM
Right on! I saw that they'd scheduled a bunch of tourdates around the country but none were in Kansas, so this is great news.
10-06-2006, 11:39 PM
May take a long weekend in Lawrence for the Liberty Hall show then one night and back the next week to Wichita.
Thinkin' about the Scroatbelly shows too...remind me if you can buy advance tickets for the Anchor or is it just show up early?
We should have a forum meet up at one/all of these last shows.
10-07-2006, 12:06 AM
Ginger, I don't know about the Anchor. I know Auntie Mae's in Manhattan was the one that they didn't sell advance tickets for, but I don't know the policy for the Anchor. I'm hoping to hit the Scroat Belly show in Lawrence on the 22nd. It's an afternoon show & hopefully will be outside on the patio at the Replay. It just sounds like a nice way to spend a Sunday! I'd highly recommend seeing Split Lip at the Cotillion too. I loved the venue when I went in August! And the show was just incredible with his hometown crowd. That one will be even more bittersweet since it is the final one & it's in Wichita. Not to be missed!
I agree we should try to connect at one of the shows. That would be fun. Let's see what comes together.
Howdy JackDog! Hope all is well with you!
10-08-2006, 03:56 PM
tink----all is well 'round here. :D
Does anyone know what the deal is with the tickets for the Liberty Hall show? I just went to my local TicketBastard outlet and they couldn't find the show in their system, and when I got home I called the Liberty Hall box office and they said that there was some problem with the tickets and hopefully they'd have 'em on Monday.
10-08-2006, 07:32 PM
Good to hear jackdog! Things are fine here as well. Just ready for a night or two of music. It's been awhile since I've been out....the need is growing  .
I was in Lawrence Saturday & went by Liberty a little past 11 & was told they didn't have them yet, I should come back around noon. I made it back around 2 & was told at that it would probably be Monday. No reasons were given, but I didn't ask either. I'm going to KC Tuesday, so it's no big deal to stop by again. I just hope they have them then. I'm ready to have those hot puppies in my sweet hands :P .
10-12-2006, 07:57 PM
Well, it's almost a week late, but the Liberty Hall tickets finally went on sale today and I made sure to get mine before they sell out. While I was there I picked up a MMW & Schofield ticket for December 3rd, so that should be pretty ****in' sweet too.
10-19-2006, 01:10 AM
Got my ticket for Lawrence , with some friends..,.. ready for a damn good time!!
10-23-2006, 09:39 PM
Had screamingly good time at the Scroat Belly show at the Replay yesterday afternoon.
Kirk is thin, but smiling, and just plain spanked the crowd with lots of sweet, loud rockin' love.
Thank you, Kirk and band! Ya'll kick ass!
10-24-2006, 10:41 AM
I had a great time at the Replay and it was fun to see all of those little kids running around. It was interesting to see Scroat Belly because you could really hear where some of the SLR songs came from.
10-27-2006, 12:46 PM
I thought Scroat Belly was great! Amazing show!!! I can't believe I didn't see either one of you two though :O(. I may have seen you pass by me though, Punkin...dang, I wish I would've been smart enough to think ahead to contact you! Phooey.
I thought Kirk looked very good compared to the last time I saw him in August. Still is thin, but he looks healthier & seemed very happy. His eyes are shiny again! I agree with Jackdog that is was cool to hear where the Split Lip influence came from & it was great to see their families there. I had a wonderful time!
I'm an even bigger SLR fan now :D
Mr Cosmic Charlie
10-27-2006, 06:38 PM
Wow, Kirk didnt think he'd even make it to Winfield!
I've seen the boys maybe 13, 14 times. I'd always wanted to get to go to a show when I was older...
I could buy a beer, they wouldnt hassle me for not being 18, could stay out later legally.
It's amazing that this band affected me so much before I even turned 16.
I just got my tickets for Liberty Hall. Drakkar Sauna and Truckstop for the opening act! Gonna be awesome! I've only seen SLR at Liberty one other time, and that was when they were opening for Robert Earl Keen. They totally stole the show, IMO.
See you all there.
10-27-2006, 11:44 PM
Well, we made it to Wichita. Thanks to the folks who sold us their spare tickets at the door. Knew that Scroat Belly would sound awesome live feel lucky to be in SLR's primordial ooze too. And the Anchor was cool, went back for breakfast!
Wish we could have made it to the Replay--see ya'll at Liberty Hall and Cottilion both though!
10-28-2006, 08:26 AM
So how 'bout a preparty in Lawrence? Who's in?
11-01-2006, 11:42 PM
Hmmmm....maybe I'll preparty wit ya, sunflower  . I need to get that room!!!
Did you get my message that I got your message???
11-02-2006, 08:08 PM
Here's my message letting you know that I got your message that you got my message. And of course you can stay with us, you know you're always welcome.
11-12-2006, 03:57 PM
Late reply--We would be in! Just name the place.
11-21-2006, 11:21 AM
Does anyone have any extras for the Liberty Hall show? PM me if you can help.
Mr Cosmic Charlie
11-22-2006, 09:31 AM
Is Liberty already sold out?
I already got my tickets, but it really sold out that fast?
11-22-2006, 10:12 AM
[quote:76f264a279=\"Mr Cosmic Charlie\"]Is Liberty already sold out?

Yep, it sure did!
11-27-2006, 01:11 PM
I'm super pumped about the show. I'll be at Free State Brewery drinking quality beer prior to the show.
If by on the completely off chance someone has an extra ticket please let me know. I have a completely lazy friend that waited too long and now he can't get a ticket.
11-27-2006, 01:17 PM
Yes, I am an idiot, however I would like to be in attendance at the show. So if there are any please let me know, and I'll get in contact. I don't really appreciate your negative comments Salmon. I can't be expected to remember everything.
11-27-2006, 01:27 PM
I did not call you an idiot. I called you lazy. See, the reason you are an idiot is because of you propensity to mount couches and make flippy. And so you have no SLR ticket.
11-27-2006, 04:55 PM
Hah! Funny exchange between you & your friend, Salmon! It made me smile. And here I was worried that they would sell out the first week, so I practically ran to Lawrence to get tickets for me, Sunflower & Westwindgirl! I'm lazy in many other ways, but not when it comes to Split Lip shows  .
We'll be in Lawrence sometime Friday...just not sure when. Sunflower had mentioned a preparty at one point, but I'm not sure how early I can get there. It would be nice to meet up with Wakarusians! Free State will be packed though. It always is on a regular Friday night, but will be doubly bad due to the show. It'd be great fun if we could meet up there for dinner & drinks if someone could snag a table. I should be able to figure out my plans sometime in the next few days, if anyone wants to get together.
I am CRANKED!!!
11-29-2006, 02:02 AM
Absofriginlutely! You locals name the place, and if it can be Googled, we will be there!
Not sure of our ETA on Friday either.
11-30-2006, 03:42 PM
Never mind to that funk boy Salmonshake. I managed my own ticket. I don't need no stinking assistance. 26 hours and I'm on my way to Larrytown. See you ladies and gentlemen there.
11-30-2006, 06:53 PM
So Tink, Sunflower; how are the roads up there? Inch or so of ice under about 6+ snow here in Oklahoma. Driveable but barely.
Do they salt/sand the roads up in Wichita/Lawrence?
Sorry, but after being really excited for a month or more the weather's freaking me out! :( :x :D
11-30-2006, 07:05 PM
Hey, Ginger. It's not too bad here in Topeka just west of Lawrence. The roads are fine...it's just parking lots & sidestreets that stink. They are usually are really good at keeping the turnpike clear, so maybe things will be fine. Plus, it's supposed to be in the mid 40's tomorrow which will help! It hasn't snowed though & I think it's still supposed to. I did get a message from Sunflower saying it was snowing heavily in Wichita this afternoon. Also a lot of snow in KC, I hear.
My love for Split Lip makes me believe all will be well tomorrow!!!
11-30-2006, 07:56 PM
You're right of course. The weather will clear because Jesus and his crew are waitin' for us to join the faithful for a revival!
:D  Hosanna hey; Superstar!
11-30-2006, 10:30 PM
It's gonna be a gametime decision for me.
12-01-2006, 10:37 AM
How much snow did you get Andrea? We have nothing!!! I saw a picture from Central St. in Wichita.....it looked crazy! Lots 'o white stuff. Call me as soon as you know. I really hope you still do it, but understand if you don't.
I might cry though    .
Mr Cosmic Charlie
12-02-2006, 02:05 PM
the concert at liberty was awesome
12-02-2006, 09:45 PM
Yes, a little nerve wracking getting there at first but totally worth it. Thanks for the encouragement Tink. Hope Sunflower made it. Loved Lawrence!
And Split Lip, well... trying to find the words! But my heart is full, my voice is gone, my feet are sore and my face hurts from grinning!
:D  :( :o :D
Mr Cosmic Charlie
12-03-2006, 01:21 AM
My left ear hasnt stopped ringing, and everything is a bit muffled. I seriously think SLR did some minor damage to my hearing. No joke.
Honestly, I wouldnt care if I went deaf.
My favorite shirt may be permanantly damaged due to the spillage of beer on it, my legs wont be healed for about another week, my voice is yet to be found, and again, im half deaf out of my left ear, and I had to walk home with a soaking wet shirt on.
All signs of an awesome concert. Glad to see SO many people there last night.
12-03-2006, 03:37 PM
My ass hurts from dancing so much! :D
12-03-2006, 03:40 PM
Ginger, I wish I would've gotten your contact info, but it totally slipped my mind. Last week was pretty frantic & my mind was very muddled  . I would have enjoyed meeting you. I'm glad you made it! Sunflower decided not to come, but I'll get to hang with her for the show this Friday. By then my butt & legs should be recovered  . And ready for round two!
I love those boys!!!
12-03-2006, 03:45 PM
Sully, if you're around send me a message! I never got to say good-bye Friday & I'd like to say something to you!
12-03-2006, 09:57 PM
Hey Tink-don't sweat it. Thanks for thinking of me :) ! The non SLR world goes on, . Didn't get to Lawrence early enough to do anything before :(.
After a nerve wracking morning checking the weather/roads waiting for Hubby, we made the drive fine. I think we got the last room at the Marriot on the river (kick ass location), checked in then slid on over to the show. And Sat morning I think we rode the elevator with Jeff Eaton's mom. It was one of the guy's family anyway. LOVED LAWRENCE! Spent the afternoon exploring.
Not taking the whole day off next Friday (much shorter drive to Wichita), not sure of ETA or if we'll spend the night. PM-ing you my #. I would love to party in the pit with ya'll!
12-03-2006, 11:56 PM
You may have gotten the room we gave up! I had one reserved, but plans changed so I cancelled the reservation around 3. Maybe you got it. It is a great location. Was it nice?
Jeff's mom has short blonde hair and glasses. She's very kind! I've seen her at every show I've been to since the announcement of Kirk's illness. When we went in to Liberty, we were right behind Eric's sister. It's pretty cool seeing their family members. Makes it more personal.
I don't know what time I'll be in Wichita either. I'm just taking off from work maybe an hour or two early, but I'm a a fast driver :D . Can't wait to see them again! I'm wearing the comfy SLR sweatshirt right now. I had to splurge 8) .
12-04-2006, 08:07 AM
Anyone here go to any of the Scroatbelly shows?
Were thinkin of goin up to Chicago on the 13th.
Who's all playin in Scroatbelly?
I have the 1 cd,was wonderin what they actually play for these few shows, just the songs from the cd or what?
Any info will be appreciated.
12-04-2006, 10:06 AM
I'll probably go to the Davey's show on the 16th and maybe the show at Auntie Mae's on the 17th. Scroat Belly is Kirk, Wayne (on guitar), a bass player, and a drummer. I don't have any of their music and the only time that I've seen 'em is when they played in Lawrence a couple of months ago, so I can't really help you with anything else.
12-04-2006, 11:42 AM
I went to the Lawrence show in October and loved it! I really hadn't heard any Scroat Belly music, except for a few clips I could find online, but was very happy with the show. Some of the songs I loved, others not so much, but it was just great seeing Kirk & Wayne in a different light. You can definitely tell where Split Lip came from! They played songs from the CD....maybe 5-7 or so...couldn't tell you the names right now though, but I recognized them from listening to online clips.
It was a great show! I'd love to see them again, but don't know if I can make it to KC that weekend.
Jackdog, it was great seeeing you Friday! Sorry we didn't get to talk more though. I was going to buy you a beer for all the CD's you've given me. Maybe next time! Hope it was a great night for you :D .
12-04-2006, 01:49 PM
Do you know who was on drums and bass? Just curious.
If you'd like I could burn you and JackDog a copy of the Scroatbelly cd I have,I bought it years ago from my local record shop, right after I
discovered the Split Lip Rayfield phenomonon.
PM me some addresses and I'l get'em in the mail.
Or if your mailbox is big enough,I could convert to MP3 and e-mailem.
12-04-2006, 02:01 PM
By the way did any of you get a copy of KCMOEJOES DVD ?
He burned me a few copys and it's friggin awesome!!!!
The whole bottleneck show from October. (I think)
Send him some blanks and I'm sure he'll do the same for you.
12-04-2006, 03:09 PM
Yup, I got KCMoeJoe's DVD. It is great! It's so fun to relive that amazing night!!! He's a great guy for doing that.
I may take you up on the Scroat Belly offer. I have it on my wish list for Christmas though, so I think I'll wait to see if it's in Santa's bag  . Unfortunately, I don't know who the other 2 guys are that are in Scroat Belly. I haven't been able to find any info either. :?
12-04-2006, 10:17 PM
Tink- I remember 2 ladies fitting that description at the Cotillion last time. Both very nice. She said that they always stay there. The queen suite was great would have slept prob. 6; 2 tvs, fridge and micro. Would be perfect for a group and not too $$. If it was yours, thanks! I wonder how many of \"us\" were staying there?
Girl, did you get that hoodie? Too much cool stuff. Gotta get all Drakkar Sauna'ed up too. Love those guys, and that kid was so cute!
Zimmy--Scroat Belly was definately worth the trip for us last month. It is the \"primordial ooze\". Is it \"Daddy's Farm\" you have?
12-05-2006, 07:05 AM
Zimmy--Scroat Belly was definately worth the trip for us last month. It is the \"primordial ooze\". Is it \"Daddy's Farm\" you have?[/quote:aadad39532]
Yea,Daddy's Farm. I really love 2 or 3 but the whole thing is pretty good.
12-05-2006, 02:52 PM
I did get the hoodie! That was my splurge!!! I saw those in a picture from the Austin show & just had to have it. Now, I think I'll get the new black girly shirt in Wichita with the swirly \"split lip rayfield\" on it. What I really want though, is one or two of their older shirts. I really want the one with the cow that says \"100% meat\". One of the merch guys had it on Friday, but it said \"100% fat\". I hadn't seen that before.
And, I also love Drakkar Sauna. I have the pink shirt with their faces on it, but really want the KS seal. They are toooooo much fun, those boys are!!!
Only a few more days & we can do it all again!!! Yay!!!
12-05-2006, 10:45 PM
BTW any links to pics appreciated. Left our camera in the room!
12-06-2006, 07:06 AM
Who's coming to Wichita? Anyone up for a get together before the show? We don't have anything as cool as Free States Brewery close to the Cotillion but Tnk and I did Chili's last time and it was good, and close too. Headcount?
Hey Tnk, I just saw your comment on Myspace. I'm having issues there too, can't log in. I had to go through Cy's page. What a serious PAIN IN THE ASS!! But in answer to your question--yes, we can indeed have spaghetti at 1a.m. if you want!
12-06-2006, 01:04 PM
FYI: Looks like I'll be working on another DVD for the Liberty Hall show very soon! just in time for Christmas! :D
12-06-2006, 02:07 PM
You ROCK! Thanks for all your hard work making these DVD's. I love the one I got from August!!!
I be calling you tonight, sweet cheeks! I'm leaving work at 3 Friday, so I'll be there with plenty of time to partake in a few refreshing beverages. My tejas friend maynow be coming without her husband....it's still up in the air & most likely will be until tomorrow.
BRING ON THE LIP!
12-06-2006, 08:48 PM
Wow. Thanks Joe!
Has anyone noticed the show up yet? I've checked bt.etree and a few others. Patience. Yes. I know.
12-06-2006, 09:38 PM
Sunflower and Tink---me, hubby, and one or two buddies will be screaming in from OKC, not sure when but at least Chili's will be easy to find, right? I agree; closer is safer.
If you and or Tink will favor me with your # by PM; I will at least check in when we arrive in case we've got time to get the party started early!
12-06-2006, 11:20 PM
Sent you a PM, Ginger.
Sunflower! I'll call you tomorrow night...Thursday. I meant to tonight, but never managed to pick up the phone  . So tomorrow it is!
Who's ready to dance?!!!!
12-07-2006, 06:05 AM
No worries, Tnk, I'll talk to ya tonight. I'm leaving work early on Friday, not sure exactly how early, but a 4:00 (the very latest) departure will still have me showered and ready to go at 5 or so.
I'm getting antsy! I just have to remember where I put the tix now....

SPLIT LIP RAYFIELD
Dec. 1 at Liberty Hall |
Since 1998 Split Lip Rayfield has forged its own high-octane, barn-burning sound, crossing genres and pulling metal-worthy solos off of country instruments.
Friday night at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, its long road traveled came one step closer to the end of the line when the band played its last show in the area.
Guitarist Kirk Rundstrom, diagnosed with inoperable esophageal cancer, plans to retire from performing soon to focus on his health. Retirement might be too strong a word, though: Rundstrom has a new solo CD out this month, and several reunion shows have been planned for Scroatbelly, the band that gave way to Split Lip Rayfield.
The opening act, Drakkar Sauna, warmed up the packed-to-the-rafters crowd with its back porch, carnivalesque sounds. The band extended its set to cover for the second opener, Truckstop Honeymoon, who was snowbound in St. Louis.
Split Lip took the stage around 11:15 p.m., tearing into ?Flat Black Rag.? Jeff Eaton and his trademark gas-tank stand-up bass, mandolin player Wayne Gottstine, banjo player Eric Mardis and guitarist Rundstrom reached a furious pace and never let up.
From ?Biscuits? and ?Outlaw? to ?Pinball,? no matter what they played, the crowd sang along.
After one particularly fever-pitched guitar solo, Mardis ?introduced? Rundstrom. The audience?s cheers and foot stomping continued several minutes before the band broke into ?Redneck Tailgate Dream.?
Almost 75 minutes later, the party ended with ?Kiss of Death.? The band left the stage, and the crowd erupted in more noise, trying to encourage an encore.
Moments later Gottstine and Eaton returned, playing a ripping instrumental. Rundstrom and Mardis rejoined the band as Eaton taped a kazoo onto his mic stand, and they broke into ?Never Make It Home Again.? Rundstrom introduced the members of the band and ended by saying, ?I?m Kirk and we?re Split Lip Rayfield, and we appreciate the hell out of you all.? It was obvious the feeling was mutual. Split Lip Rayfield ended with one last sing-along, ?San Antone.?
Don?t cry in your beer if you missed the show. Split Lip Rayfield plays one last time, at Wichita?s Cotillion, Friday. The band also recently released a 29-song best-of collection, ?SLR,? which includes live and studio tracks.
12-07-2006, 08:56 AM
I'm very antsy! I'll have to remember to come to work tomorrrow! For some reason, I have it in my head that I'm off...yikes! Can't wait to see ya, chica!
Salmon, thanks for posting that review. It was a fabulous show! BTW, I looked for you at Free State, but seeings how I have no idea what you look like, it was a challenge to track you down. At one point I joked about standing on the stair landing and just yelling \"Salmon\" until you came forward  . The bar was sooooo packed, it was rather frightening! Maybe we'll meet another day 8) .
Enjoy! Tomorrow is the gateway to the weekend!
12-07-2006, 09:28 AM
I was there drinking the Free State. Very much packed. Another day!
12-08-2006, 12:11 AM
Tink-I hear you about w@%k. Not likely to make Chili's before 7 now that reality hits the fan. :(
RU planning to be at the venue when doors open? I can text you gals, right?
I AM going to yell out your names if necessary!
