They are finishing it all off here in KS! Yahoooo!
December 1 at Liberty in Lawrence
December 7....OR December 8 (I've seen it listed with both dates in a couple places) at the Cotillion in Wichita
What a way to finish the ride! I'm there, you know it!

Right on! I saw that they'd scheduled a bunch of tourdates around the country but none were in Kansas, so this is great news.

May take a long weekend in Lawrence for the Liberty Hall show then one night and back the next week to Wichita.
Thinkin' about the Scroatbelly shows too...remind me if you can buy advance tickets for the Anchor or is it just show up early?
We should have a forum meet up at one/all of these last shows.

Ginger, I don't know about the Anchor. I know Auntie Mae's in Manhattan was the one that they didn't sell advance tickets for, but I don't know the policy for the Anchor. I'm hoping to hit the Scroat Belly show in Lawrence on the 22nd. It's an afternoon show & hopefully will be outside on the patio at the Replay. It just sounds like a nice way to spend a Sunday! I'd highly recommend seeing Split Lip at the Cotillion too. I loved the venue when I went in August! And the show was just incredible with his hometown crowd. That one will be even more bittersweet since it is the final one & it's in Wichita. Not to be missed!
I agree we should try to connect at one of the shows. That would be fun. Let's see what comes together.
Howdy JackDog! Hope all is well with you!

tink----all is well 'round here. :D
Does anyone know what the deal is with the tickets for the Liberty Hall show? I just went to my local TicketBastard outlet and they couldn't find the show in their system, and when I got home I called the Liberty Hall box office and they said that there was some problem with the tickets and hopefully they'd have 'em on Monday.

Good to hear jackdog! Things are fine here as well. Just ready for a night or two of music. It's been awhile since I've been out....the need is growing  .
I was in Lawrence Saturday & went by Liberty a little past 11 & was told they didn't have them yet, I should come back around noon. I made it back around 2 & was told at that it would probably be Monday. No reasons were given, but I didn't ask either. I'm going to KC Tuesday, so it's no big deal to stop by again. I just hope they have them then. I'm ready to have those hot puppies in my sweet hands :P .

Well, it's almost a week late, but the Liberty Hall tickets finally went on sale today and I made sure to get mine before they sell out. While I was there I picked up a MMW & Schofield ticket for December 3rd, so that should be pretty ****in' sweet too.

Had screamingly good time at the Scroat Belly show at the Replay yesterday afternoon.
Kirk is thin, but smiling, and just plain spanked the crowd with lots of sweet, loud rockin' love.
Thank you, Kirk and band! Ya'll kick ass!

I had a great time at the Replay and it was fun to see all of those little kids running around. It was interesting to see Scroat Belly because you could really hear where some of the SLR songs came from.

I thought Scroat Belly was great! Amazing show!!! I can't believe I didn't see either one of you two though :O(. I may have seen you pass by me though, Punkin...dang, I wish I would've been smart enough to think ahead to contact you! Phooey.
I thought Kirk looked very good compared to the last time I saw him in August. Still is thin, but he looks healthier & seemed very happy. His eyes are shiny again! I agree with Jackdog that is was cool to hear where the Split Lip influence came from & it was great to see their families there. I had a wonderful time!
I'm an even bigger SLR fan now :D
Mr Cosmic Charlie
10-27-2006, 06:38 PM
Wow, Kirk didnt think he'd even make it to Winfield!
I've seen the boys maybe 13, 14 times. I'd always wanted to get to go to a show when I was older...
I could buy a beer, they wouldnt hassle me for not being 18, could stay out later legally.
It's amazing that this band affected me so much before I even turned 16.
I just got my tickets for Liberty Hall. Drakkar Sauna and Truckstop for the opening act! Gonna be awesome! I've only seen SLR at Liberty one other time, and that was when they were opening for Robert Earl Keen. They totally stole the show, IMO.
See you all there.

Well, we made it to Wichita. Thanks to the folks who sold us their spare tickets at the door. Knew that Scroat Belly would sound awesome live feel lucky to be in SLR's primordial ooze too. And the Anchor was cool, went back for breakfast!
Wish we could have made it to the Replay--see ya'll at Liberty Hall and Cottilion both though!

Hah! Funny exchange between you & your friend, Salmon! It made me smile. And here I was worried that they would sell out the first week, so I practically ran to Lawrence to get tickets for me, Sunflower & Westwindgirl! I'm lazy in many other ways, but not when it comes to Split Lip shows  .
We'll be in Lawrence sometime Friday...just not sure when. Sunflower had mentioned a preparty at one point, but I'm not sure how early I can get there. It would be nice to meet up with Wakarusians! Free State will be packed though. It always is on a regular Friday night, but will be doubly bad due to the show. It'd be great fun if we could meet up there for dinner & drinks if someone could snag a table. I should be able to figure out my plans sometime in the next few days, if anyone wants to get together.
I am CRANKED!!!

So Tink, Sunflower; how are the roads up there? Inch or so of ice under about 6+ snow here in Oklahoma. Driveable but barely.
Do they salt/sand the roads up in Wichita/Lawrence?
Sorry, but after being really excited for a month or more the weather's freaking me out! :( :x :D

11-30-2006, 07:05 PM
Hey, Ginger. It's not too bad here in Topeka just west of Lawrence. The roads are fine...it's just parking lots & sidestreets that stink. They are usually are really good at keeping the turnpike clear, so maybe things will be fine. Plus, it's supposed to be in the mid 40's tomorrow which will help! It hasn't snowed though & I think it's still supposed to. I did get a message from Sunflower saying it was snowing heavily in Wichita this afternoon. Also a lot of snow in KC, I hear.
My love for Split Lip makes me believe all will be well tomorrow!!!

My left ear hasnt stopped ringing, and everything is a bit muffled. I seriously think SLR did some minor damage to my hearing. No joke.
Honestly, I wouldnt care if I went deaf.
My favorite shirt may be permanantly damaged due to the spillage of beer on it, my legs wont be healed for about another week, my voice is yet to be found, and again, im half deaf out of my left ear, and I had to walk home with a soaking wet shirt on.
All signs of an awesome concert. Glad to see SO many people there last night.

Hey Tink-don't sweat it. Thanks for thinking of me :) ! The non SLR world goes on, . Didn't get to Lawrence early enough to do anything before :(.
After a nerve wracking morning checking the weather/roads waiting for Hubby, we made the drive fine. I think we got the last room at the Marriot on the river (kick ass location), checked in then slid on over to the show. And Sat morning I think we rode the elevator with Jeff Eaton's mom. It was one of the guy's family anyway. LOVED LAWRENCE! Spent the afternoon exploring.
Not taking the whole day off next Friday (much shorter drive to Wichita), not sure of ETA or if we'll spend the night. PM-ing you my #. I would love to party in the pit with ya'll!

You may have gotten the room we gave up! I had one reserved, but plans changed so I cancelled the reservation around 3. Maybe you got it. It is a great location. Was it nice?
Jeff's mom has short blonde hair and glasses. She's very kind! I've seen her at every show I've been to since the announcement of Kirk's illness. When we went in to Liberty, we were right behind Eric's sister. It's pretty cool seeing their family members. Makes it more personal.
I don't know what time I'll be in Wichita either. I'm just taking off from work maybe an hour or two early, but I'm a a fast driver :D . Can't wait to see them again! I'm wearing the comfy SLR sweatshirt right now. I had to splurge 8) .
Hugs!

I'll probably go to the Davey's show on the 16th and maybe the show at Auntie Mae's on the 17th. Scroat Belly is Kirk, Wayne (on guitar), a bass player, and a drummer. I don't have any of their music and the only time that I've seen 'em is when they played in Lawrence a couple of months ago, so I can't really help you with anything else.

Hey Zimmy~
I went to the Lawrence show in October and loved it! I really hadn't heard any Scroat Belly music, except for a few clips I could find online, but was very happy with the show. Some of the songs I loved, others not so much, but it was just great seeing Kirk & Wayne in a different light. You can definitely tell where Split Lip came from! They played songs from the CD....maybe 5-7 or so...couldn't tell you the names right now though, but I recognized them from listening to online clips.
It was a great show! I'd love to see them again, but don't know if I can make it to KC that weekend.
Jackdog, it was great seeeing you Friday! Sorry we didn't get to talk more though. I was going to buy you a beer for all the CD's you've given me. Maybe next time! Hope it was a great night for you :D .

I did get the hoodie! That was my splurge!!! I saw those in a picture from the Austin show & just had to have it. Now, I think I'll get the new black girly shirt in Wichita with the swirly \"split lip rayfield\" on it. What I really want though, is one or two of their older shirts. I really want the one with the cow that says \"100% meat\". One of the merch guys had it on Friday, but it said \"100% fat\". I hadn't seen that before.
And, I also love Drakkar Sauna. I have the pink shirt with their faces on it, but really want the KS seal. They are toooooo much fun, those boys are!!!

SPLIT LIP RAYFIELD
Dec. 1 at Liberty Hall |
Since 1998 Split Lip Rayfield has forged its own high-octane, barn-burning sound, crossing genres and pulling metal-worthy solos off of country instruments.
Friday night at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, its long road traveled came one step closer to the end of the line when the band played its last show in the area.
Guitarist Kirk Rundstrom, diagnosed with inoperable esophageal cancer, plans to retire from performing soon to focus on his health. Retirement might be too strong a word, though: Rundstrom has a new solo CD out this month, and several reunion shows have been planned for Scroatbelly, the band that gave way to Split Lip Rayfield.
The opening act, Drakkar Sauna, warmed up the packed-to-the-rafters crowd with its back porch, carnivalesque sounds. The band extended its set to cover for the second opener, Truckstop Honeymoon, who was snowbound in St. Louis.
Split Lip took the stage around 11:15 p.m., tearing into ?Flat Black Rag.? Jeff Eaton and his trademark gas-tank stand-up bass, mandolin player Wayne Gottstine, banjo player Eric Mardis and guitarist Rundstrom reached a furious pace and never let up.
From ?Biscuits? and ?Outlaw? to ?Pinball,? no matter what they played, the crowd sang along.
After one particularly fever-pitched guitar solo, Mardis ?introduced? Rundstrom. The audience?s cheers and foot stomping continued several minutes before the band broke into ?Redneck Tailgate Dream.?
Almost 75 minutes later, the party ended with ?Kiss of Death.? The band left the stage, and the crowd erupted in more noise, trying to encourage an encore.
Moments later Gottstine and Eaton returned, playing a ripping instrumental. Rundstrom and Mardis rejoined the band as Eaton taped a kazoo onto his mic stand, and they broke into ?Never Make It Home Again.? Rundstrom introduced the members of the band and ended by saying, ?I?m Kirk and we?re Split Lip Rayfield, and we appreciate the hell out of you all.? It was obvious the feeling was mutual. Split Lip Rayfield ended with one last sing-along, ?San Antone.?
Don?t cry in your beer if you missed the show. Split Lip Rayfield plays one last time, at Wichita?s Cotillion, Friday. The band also recently released a 29-song best-of collection, ?SLR,? which includes live and studio tracks.
