We'll definitely be bringing the ol' board to Waka 07. Wondering if anyone else plays \"the gentleman's game\"?
I find it's a great way to mentally unwind and just hang out at camp.

Double run for 8 w/ his Nobs for an extra.
I love cribbage. Learned to play it on a camping trip when I was up in Canada. Been racing people ever since.

It's crazy the different things you learn from differnt sides of the family. I learned Cribbage from my mother's mother (Chicagoland area) and about the same age learned bones from my father's mother (Oklahomareddirt area). Bones of course being Dominoes.
By the way, while I may play cribbage, I would not call anything that I participate/compete in a gentlemens game.

I play dominoes as well* but the game I played I always knew as \"Mexican Chicken Train\".
*dominoes, and backgammon, and cribbage, and chess, and checkers (including Chinese)and marbles.....a million things that will never make me any real money.....

Partner. That's because you haven't met the right people. Everyone I know will play just about anything for money. As a matter of a fact, last year sitting at the camp site, we were betting on who could throw a stone on a 12 box and make it stay. I of course lost, but gambling is just a way of life.
[quote:5134454fad=\"KB\"]Double run for 8[/quote:5134454fad]
I call that a straight eight.
We played a ton in vip 2005. Maybe too much. We seemed to be known as the guys playing that weird card game.
Last year I went on a 12 game win streak to start the festival and it was hard to get my friend to play after that.
It is a good game to play while drinking a beer for breakfast.

We also call that a \"straight 8\" and/or \"pat 8\"...same with \"Straight 16\".
My bro and I have also added some \"fun\" rules, the most controversial amongst Crib purists is what we call The Squim Rule. The Squim Rule states that if the card which was cut is \"way lame\" both players simply state \"Squim It\" and a new card is cut, then placed FACE DOWN to be revealed only after all cards have been played out. Both playas must agree to the Squim.
We also play with a couple jokers in the deck which are therefore \"wild\" cards and can be played as whatever you want, adds a whole new dimension to the game. Sometimes you will have a \"Squimmed\" (see above) cut card which is face down, and you have to decide what to play your wild card as while you peg, without knowing the entire picture. Also fun to toss the joker your crib sometimes and see what happens.
And what's up with 'His nobs'?? We always get a kick out of emphasizing \"His Nobs for one\". It's just such an odd term. And when we played growing up we kindof always just called it \"Nibs for one\"...I'm not sure what it is, but \"His Nobs\" always makes me laugh.
Crib is a great game to play while camping, beer for breakfast adds an even better twist. To start with a 12 game win streak will take the steam out of any opponent..heh heh

Nibs is the two-point jack starter cut card....Nobs is the one-point jack counted at the end.
[quote:e74082ebdd=\"Innarweb\"]
Nibs - Nibs or His Heels is a Jack turned as the Starter Card, counts as two points for the dealer. A player needing only two points to win a game may take Nibs to win.
Nobs - Nobs or His Nobs is a Jack, either in the hand or crib, of the same suit as the Starter Card. Counts one point.

The BogBro and I will no doubt be enjoying Crib n Coffee daily. Whenever we get together its always a cribfest, but to play in the open air, with the cool vibe of the festival surrounding us, well that's ideal. Of course the table is open to any and all playas...I like me some three-hand, and the elusive four-hand too (rarely get a chance to play four-hand)...

In fact, I AM Mormon! However, I do only have one wife, but she'll be home with the kids. I'll return the favor when she goes to Thailand next January.
Gee, I wonder how many Mormons will be at Waka? Let's see, there's me, me, me, and me. That's 4. Good enough.
Warning: off-topic rant ahead! Some people feel that religion (and Christianity in general) is intolerant towards, perhaps, many that frequent these boards and/or who have the \"hippie mindset\". Unfortunately, this is often true. I believe if Christians truly practiced what they preached, ALL people and lifestyles would be, at worst, accepted, and, at best, all people would be embraced as brothers and sisters regardless of personal opinion.
I love my religion, and I also love the people on this board. A person's political or lifestyle choices are irrelevant to me. Sorry, I'm not wanting to start a discussion on religion. Just throwing it out there. I think tolerance towards the \"religious\" is as important as tolerance towards all others.
- BogsBro
PS- It should be noted that the Bogmonkey is NOT Mormon. He's Wiccan. So the siblings in our family are Mormon, Baptist, and Wiccan. Pretty eclectic mix if you ask me. What does this have to do with Cribbage? Absolutely nothing.

Watch yourself on this one, folks. People's religions are very sensitive topics. I don't want this to go where it shouldn't.
IMO, the last thing we want is people getting upset.....feeling like people are criticizing their religions.
And BTW, bmbro......I worship eggs........AND bacon.....and sausage.......so LAY OFF THE EGGS!!!!!!!!

Sorry Bogmonkey! I didn't mean anything by it, honestly. I will never bring up the subject again. Anyway, lets talk cribbage again. Maybe we should have a refresher game on the board.

Ok, let's talk about cribbage: It's an incredible game! That said, don't think for a minute that I was even vaguely offended by your comments. No way! It's gonna be cool to hang out with you at Waka and I look forward to it.
Still hoping for a Denver caravan!

For those of you with PDAs, this freeware program is a great cribbage game. My record against it is about even (and I'm not terrible).

For sure! VIP, right? Drive careful through Kansas, the state patrol are on the highway about every 5 miles or so. CRUISE CONTROL is highly recommended!!

The Bogmonkey has driven Kansas about 100 times and I've been well-informed about the speed limit and associated problems. Oregon is even worse: 55 mph in the desert with straightaways as far as the eye can see. Lame!
And yes, we'll be in VIP. It'll be here SO soon!
Woo hoo!

I just wanted to add on the limits and whatnot. I went to High School in central Kansas, and they had signs all about that warned of radar checking in various ways, including the air. Now I doubted that overtly, and mocked those who believed there was an eye in the sky that actually gave tickets. Well as it turned out, there was some form of plane or something flying overhead, and a cop on the road, that in fact gave me a ticket, yet never had radar gun flashed me. So it looks like there was an eye in the sky.

I used to traverse Kansas many times a month for work. I used to have a CB and would use the otr-trucker-network to be aware of major speed traps (it's a great trick). Still, even that route is risky...and I would HIGHLY advise all drivers to just take it easy, engage cruise control, and enjoy the ride to Lawrence. Matter of fact I'd make sure your taillights and whatnot are also working well, as the bored lawdogs are well known for pulling folks over for any reason you give them. They really do suck.

breed and born in South Cackalacki, and never heard of cribbage. we know asshole and \"99\". anyone know \"99\"? everyone begins with an equal dollar bill and play rounds, folding the 4 corners of the bill down every hand you lose, until all 4 corners are gone, and so is your money. fun one, too.
