View Full Version : No Main Stage Thursday -- Why?

Just curious if anyone has some insight as to why there are no bands scheduled on the Main Stage on Thursday.
It has been like this in previous years as well. It doesn't seem to detract, and probably has something to do with bringing the festival online in stages, rather than all at once.
Just a guess.

Same thing last year. a lot of fests do that on the first day. one less stage to manage, secure, supply, power, clean, etc.
I still can't decide how to feel about the choice to remove one of the main stages..............could be nice, but last year it was great being able to easily run from the first half of Bela over to STS9.

Never has been. Thursday has never really been an offical day. Not sure about this year, but in the past Waka has always been advertised as starting on Friday with special sets for early arrivals on Thursday afternoon/evening. I think after last year's \"95% of the people were there on Thursday\" they may be calling it a 4 day fest now.

i really don't see anything good about it. i've never once thought to myself at wakarusa \"this show is great, but man, if i really try during quiet parts i can hear sound bleeding from the other stage!\"....i did however find myself appreciating having 7 stages of music to choose from.

I can deal with ONE main stage. revival Tent holds it's own \"headliner\" feel anyhow. A lot better in the shade. I guess the lack of a second Main stage means Panic is gonna be packed OUT....

yeah i am worried its gonna cut down a lot on the intimacy and dancing space more than anything. there might be a few less conflicts, but not really with the way the schedule's set up. i think its gotta be just to save money or something.

You're probably right. The same number of tickets sold with fewer stages will mean bigger crowds. Look for me at the smaller stages getting turned on to tunes I've never heard. I'll check out the main stage at night, but if it's blazing sun and huge crowds, no thanks.

There's no bacon there. That is self-explanatory.

I kinda like it the way it has been. Kinda fun to get under that tent on Thursday night, unless the band starts 2 hours late and you get hit with a hurricane that night

Depending on the orientation of the \"Main Stage\" this might allow for a larger number of people but less crowding. Still waiting for this years map of course. :?:
As for the revival tent, it is a great Thursday night hangout, in '05 Umphrey's McGee had everybody in the tent grooving on Thursday night. I missed '06 but a friend of mine says that the revival tent was the place to be on Thursday night then too, I can't remember who he said was on stage.

Exactamundo! Based on the delay in getting a map public, to me it's much more than, \"they took away a main stage.\" If that was the case, all they had to do was cut off part of that part of the map. There may be some more significant changes including perhaps a different orientation fo the Main Stage that froski speaks of.

It was Disco Biscuits and it was off the hook! My only complaint was that you couldn't get anywhere near the inside of the tent coz it was so packed......
