Ok, so we know SCI!!! and Umphreys :? are playing late night sets, but when will they just tell us the Tribe is playing late night on friday? Its what everyone wants to see, why not just stop these silly games? Idk if it could work from here, but everyone should show their support to see them as a late night slot....and 2 shows :D But mostly a late night set.

More Soundtribe, now! More more more!
\"There will be two STS9 shows, don't worry.\" -Straight from the mouth of Team B, but I wouldn't count on the late night no matter how hard we yell, unless more than one tent will be opened to late night sets. We can only hope we will not be screwed by poor scheduling or short set limits. A 45 minute set at in the afternoon or at dusk just won't cut it for STS9. There are also a lot of people shouting loud for STS9-related acts like Sacred Science and Kaptian Harris. Maybe we'll see latenights from them at the DJ tent once things get finalized. Just keep the love comin'!

Maybe here's some good news, if you go to
www.sts9.com and check out there tour dates it says
June 16 -\"Late Night\" midnight
June 17 -\"Main Stage\" 7:00pm
Please TEAMB tell me this is true

I sincerely hope it's the other way around, or that they are scheduled on seperate stages. Having what could (SHOULD) be the all-night STS9 set we got gipped out of by Mother Nature last year cut short for Umphrey's would be a real kick in the teeth. Umphrey's can't hold a candle to Soundtribe from a talent, vibe, or conciousness standpoint. If that IS the case and Umphrey's does follow them, let's move the groove to the hopefully-soon-to-be-announced DJ tent for a dose of late night Sacred Science!

calm down, man. Thats YOUR opinion about Umphrey's. They are incredibly talented musicians. However, I agree sts9 then UM would be very awkward, as both bands deserve to have the late night slot, and one following the other probably won't happen. We'll just have to wait for TeamB to give us a little hint, or wait till the set times come out.. I also wouldn't be too surprised if one of the websites has the wrong date? could be possible.
Anyone hitting up any sts9 shows next week? I hope to catch some if I can get off school

That doesn't even begin to touch on my opinion of Umphrey's, which I have chosen to mostly keep to myself despite the numerous threads both positive and negative related to them and the fact that I obviously have nothing better to do. My point was more in support of STS9, which is why it's in a thread titled \"STS9 love thread\".
Obviously there's no point in discussing MY opinion of Umphrey's with someone named Umphreak, and if you dig 'em, cool. A lot of people do. I personally do not. As far as them \"deserving\" a late night slot, I'm not sure what criteria decides who \"deserves\" anything, but from my perspective Umphrey's \"deserves\" a slot at about 2 in the afternoon on Saturday, and that's being generous. That is obviously not a very popular opinion and I would not take the joy of someone's favorite band playing a late night or headline away from them even if I didn't personally like their music, and that's not what I intended by reporting the STS9 late night announcement, which, like you say, hasn't been confirmed or denied, is only info on their website, not this one.
I know you're not intending to, but don't rain on my parade regarding a STS9 late night. It will, for me, if it happens, be the high point of the festival, and I will, personally, be super bummed if they have to get off the stage so Umphrey's can come on. That's all I'm sayin. Hopefully if that happens, there will be an option (specifically STS9 related electronica) for those of us who want to keep the positive tribe vibe going as opposed to listening to Phish Jr. play metal covers.

I can't wait to hear Phish Jr. play rock covers. Don't worry aesop435 about disrespecting Umph fans, we're hard core and can handle some constuctive criticism. I understand your love for STS9, I'm sure they will be awesome. It could have been worse, you could have taken a shot at Keller, that would have set this forum on fire.

Aesop,
we've all got our opinions.. you obviously have yours as shown by these posts and previous ones. Theres no reason to publicly bash a band just becuase you don't like them. Noone needs your negative vibes, if you wanna throw that garbage around go somewhere else. I'm not saying I love every band, and I, just as you, can find negative attributes to any bands, including Umphrey's or String Cheese. But you know what? people love them, and those guys rock out hard. keep it positive buddy, music is music, and when you start bashing bands left and right just because you have certain tastes for certain bands... your missing the point of music.

Like aesop said he doesn't mean any disrespect, some people just shoot first and ask questions later. A little discretion may be a good idea but I'm sure he means no real harm. 8)
Now let's get back to the topic which is how much we all love Sector 9.

Ouch! Didn't mean to ruffle so many feathers. I just calls 'em like I sees 'em. My opinions do not reflect those of (your name here) or their sponsors. Refer to my post 5/31 in the hip-hop thread for a verbose apology for being a jerk, as well as a well-meaning defense of speaking one's mind in defense of one's opinion.
Honesty's the best policy!
(P.S.- Never in my life would I take a shot at Keller. I would take a bullet for the man, which I'm sure would leave some people wondering where that Umphrey's-hating asshole went.)

Thanks, homey.
Somehow today, just being me, I got a mess of people kind of angry (nothing new). I am a super-opinionated cat when it comes to music and that comes from the fact that she is my one true firebrand love, and we have a volitile relationship. I sincerely hope that everyone with all different tastes and styles of music gets exactly what they want out of this fest (myself included! ), and if I bag on a band please for the love of Gaia don't hold me too responsible. My nature is to stir up trouble, but I promise I come in peace.

STS9 in last year Waka
FWI last year (after a clear beautiful day) they had the late night show. They brought the weather, wild weather. They did soundcheck for like 45 min, lots of people left. But that is what they wanted. They combed out the crowd of all the bad vibers. They started with saying \"patience is a virture\" and BOOM!! went into the sickest show ever. Before we knew it the water was to our ankles!! (and weather reoports said nothing about rain possibilities) They were cut off early because there was so much lightning! And now they are coming back .... will they finish a set finally??
to be continued ... ... ...

Who was at the STS9 show the last time they were in Lawerence it was the night before they released artifact, I think it was february 7th? They played lights out and it was a great show but why the hell were people throwing stuff on stage!?!?! David Murphy the bass player was getting pissed off. Come on guys there is no need for that kida stuff, thats just plain disrespecful. I hope Soud tribes image of Lawrence wasnet tainted because of some imature idiots, and yea their still playing at waka but they were already scheduled for waka before that show. Yeah, it does say a lot. Along with John Bonham they influenced more people to pick up sticks than anybody. Enough with the Rush potshots. As far as living in the past...I wasn't even alive when those bands were popular.

That is great you are spreading the tunes!
You are not going to hand out copies of ARTiFACT now are you? Cause that is not cool in my opinion. Live shows are fine to give away, but I would discourage spreading copies of ARTiFACT- it is a studio release. The band even had a note on their site awhile back that said \"please buy and do not burn ARTiFACT.\"

referring to remarks on page 1... i've seen umphreys several times, and LOVE THEM. i've never seen sts9, and i've had limited exposure. but as closed minded as i sometimes am, the beauty of the jam scene is that we all have enough in common that if they have such a devout following, they are obviously worth checking out. over half the bands i listen to now are thanks to \"word of mouth\" around the scene.
as a matter of fact, of all the great bands i know at waka, i'm probably most excited to check sts9. the reason these two are slated so closely together at waka is because of their vast differences, and that's the beauty of it all.
ideally, i want umphreys at 10 or so thursday, just to warm up my legs and get me into the groove, and then sts9 at midnight til ??? to intro themselves to me and hopefully knock my socks off!!!
hooray for umphs, hooray for sts9, hooray for all their differences
