just wondering...do ANY or if so how many of the bands at this fest feature women? seems a little heavy on the sausage.

I'm curious about this too. Are there going to be ANY women musicians? There are a ton of great female musicians, why aren't any of them here???

i tell you who was awesome last year, Kaki King.. I really liked her little solo acoustic guitar thing. :D

I missed out on Kaki King because she played at noon, and thats when I was trying to catch up on the sleep I missed because of the loud coked up partiers near our tent.
It'd be amazing if we could get Gigi at Wakarusa..either doing solo stuff or with Tabla Beat Science. Talk about a beautiful voice! Or more realistically, maybe Sleepytime Gorilla Museum...they'd add a great element to the festival and Carla Kilstedht is the ****.

i'm a big fan of Joules Graves out of Portland and as far as bigger names, Patty Griffin is as moving and powerful a voice as i've heard in recent memory.

Not that I don't like Sleepytime, but we don't want to scare people do we?
I really like the home made instruments they play.

YES! Actually their music isn't even THAT scary...to me anyways. Besides, its always nice to have a little something to balance the happy hippy sound.

Check out Donna the Buffalo at Waka. They are a mix of so many different kinds of music, and they've been playing together for 20 years. Tara Nevins is an amazing songwriter with the most beautiful voice, not to mention her skills as an old timey fiddler have brought her full circle in DTB. You will see her play accordian on some zydeco tunes, a little pink electric fiddle on some of Jeb's tunes (the other primary songwriter in the group), acoustic guitar, and some scrubboard during their sets.
Also Kathy Ziegler on keys and harmony vocals.
2 beautiful women rounding out, what has been for years, my absolute favorite band.
Check out their website for more info:

thanks all for the turn on to some good females BUT STILL out of all of this music there is basically one or two women? not surprising though, as a female singer i am all too familar with the sausage fest known as \"the music industry.\" even in a college town the music scene is almost always DOMINATED by men and then when the male only bands invite a guest female singer to sit in, it's always to sing-you guessed it-Bobby McGee. cest la vie...

Hell yeah! Teresa is great. Also have any of y'all heard of Po Girl? They're fantastic and would be a fantastic choice for any festival.

neko case is a good female act that will be at wakarusa as well
Jeff and Vida will be there. Vida has a great voice, rough and sultry.
I wish The Meat Purveyors were going to be at Waka this year.

i second the Meat Purveyors vote. They are a great band with a great female sing and a great female bass player. one of my favorite bands to see live. the are ordinary folk who mix and mingle with the people in the audience and are just darn nice folks to hang with. i would love to see them at Waka.
