Right on! King Crimson remains one of my favorites. Some fine musicians (Robert Fripp, Adrien Belew, Tony Leviny etc) have cycled thru King Crimson over the 30 plus years they have been playing/recording.
I would imagine you have been listening to Spirit's \"Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus\"...!? This CD is still in regular rotation at my house!
Hearing it on vinyl must be great treat. I still have the album on vinyl, but no turnable to spin it on.
Just wanted to put my two cents in. From one Spirit and King Crimson fan to another.

King Crimson are one of my favorite bands. I saw them open for Tool at Red Rocks, then saw them in Chicago where Adam Jones just happened to be in the audience. If you haven't, I'd suggest checking out any (or all) of their 3 live DVDs, just to see how amazing it is when their stuff is pulled off live.

What kind of stuff do Spirit do?

Spirit was a cool mix (ok so I'm only 26 but consider myself knowledgeable on the 60's/70's rock) If I'm not mistaken the way Spirit was started was 3 kids got together to play but they had no drummer, so the lead singer/guitarist had a Dad/Step dad that was already a famous Jazz drummer and it really made for a good sound. The drums on Spirit rock!!

If your digging on Crimson (Court of the Crimson King especially) you owe it to yourself to check out Emerson Lake and Palmer I suggest the self titled and Tarkus (those 2 are probably most like the old Crimson). Greg Lake is the Bass player on Court of the Crimson King and I do believe ALL the vocals on that album is him aswell. On King Crimson 'Wake of the Posidon' Greg Lake does vocals only.

Anyother 2 bands I would suggest along the same lines is Genesis (Foxtrot, Selling England By the Pound, Nusrery Crimes and Lamb Lays Down) these feature Peter Gabriel and all but the last i mentioned is Phil Collin as well.

Strwabbs is another to check out!!
    See that girl, barefootin' along,
There's laughing in her eyes, dancing in her feet,
She's a neon-light diamond and she can live on the street

I'm tryin to find some Spirit to download on Direct Connect..hopefully I'll have some success.

My favorite Crimson albums are Discipline, ConstrucKtion of Light, and Power to Believe.

My former guitarist tried getting me into Genesis, but the vocals, as is the case with most prog rock bands, scared me away.

Saw Spirit twice, once in the 70's - great show! - wildly psychedic - and once in the early 80's when Randy California got sucked into the LA new wave scene - pathetic show...

Twelve Dreams is the definite Spirit sound, but others kicked, too. Had a friend in high school that dated the drummer's daughter... The band hung out in Boulder on and off for quite a few years...

Crimson's Konstruction of Light is a 21st century recording, and is awesome. Gotta love those Prozac Blues... Saw a Fripp/Gunn spinoff show in Seattle in the 90's. Way cool two hour set - single seamless jam - no microphone - no hellos or thank yous - they just walked out, jammed, and left. No encore. Blistering and mindbending.

Gotta put in a plug for Gong if you like both of the above. Check out Floating Anarchy '77 - Planet Gong.

I'm listening to THRaKaTTak as I write this! Fripp and Belew on the same disc. Wahooo!
A friend of mine says that when he met his wife to be, he was listening to King Crimson (this was 1976) and she was wondering about the music. The conversation went something like this:
    Her: Who is this?
Him: Uh, this IS King Crmson, my favorite band.
Her: Hmmm. The music is a little scary, don't you think?
    Him: Scary good, right?
    Her: Right!

They have now been married 25 years plus. Coincidence? I think not.

I found some Spirit..definitely enjoying it. I'll look into Gong next!

One time I was talking about how the one King Crimson song I really can't stand is \"Heartbeat\", and a friend of mine kinda sheepishly agreed with me, then admitted \"...but thats me and my wife's song\"

    Default King Crimson

Some of their later stuff like \"Beat\"and \"Three of a perfect pair\" are some of my favorites. As for Spirt, you cant beat the tune \"Animal Zoo\". There was a band when I was growing up in DC called Cosmic Debris, that later merged with the Jello Boys, they were a Dead coverband that rocked back in the day. Boy I miss being twenty something and sleeping till noon.
