Wakashower

Introducing the Wakashower! Just thought I would put this up for those looking for a great way to keep cool and refreshed during the fest. Last festival I used a Coleman solar bag which was nice, but the bag ended up breaking before the end of the weekend. It also lacked pressure which really wasn't that big of a deal. So I rigged up the Wakashower, which is durable and has sufficient pressure! This was super easy to make using a 2 gallon pump sprayer($12.99) and a 6ft. sink type sprayer($19.99). Grand total of around $35 after tax. Seeing as how the average shower uses between 30 and 40 gallons, many might think 2 gallons won't be enough. I showered with this last night after a day of plaster removal on a building from 1893, point being I was filthy! First, wet body. Second, shampoo and soap. Third, rinse. I just barely had enough water to finish, but I used a little too much soap so rinsing off could have went faster had I not been so greedy with the suds. A person could use a tank with more capacity, but I think 2 gal. will be nice if the water hydrant is a hike to get to. I might paint it black to help heat the water, but when I'm burning under the Ozark sun I won't care what temp the water is. See y'all on the mountain! Oh by the way I also use the Ozark trail utility shower tent for privacy.

Good job! I didn't think about using a sink sprayer head. I'm sure it works great.
We had been using a regular camp shower and camp shower tent. It really got to be a pain to fill the bag, set up the shower tent, and keep your fingers crossed that it didn't collapse when you're trying to rinse off. This year I decided to use an instant-up shower tent (from Basspro) with a pressure tank shower. I knew my girl and I could get a decent shower with just over 4 gal., so I got a 3 gal tank thinking that we could each take a more comfortable shower. I plan on just refilling between showers. I wanted to use the valve that came with the sprayer to keep the cost down. I also replaced the hose with 8' beverage hose. Can't remember exactly how much I have invested in it. I know the bottle was $33.21 on Amazon and the hose was right at $5. The nylon fittings for the valve were purchased at a local hardware store at considerable mark-up, but I still think it was all under $43.
On the right is the canopy mister I built for last Waka. It's great! Love that thing. It seems like I remember 2 gal. will mist for about an hour and a half pumping every 15 min. or so. Misting nozzles and fittings were kinda expensive. Seems like I ended up spending around $40 to get it going.

Nice work jamesq very cool! My sprayer isn't actually a sink sprayer I just don't know what its called. It's made to tee into an existing shower head so it can be used to clean the shower. Found it in the plumbing aisle at Ace hardware. I cut the compression fitting off the end of the hose and it just so happened to fit right up to the fittings supplied with the garden pump sprayer. Leak free also!

I do want to make an important note: DO NOT USE A TANK THAT HAS HAD CHEMICALS PUT IN IT! I wouldn't even trust washing one out, just buy a new one!

But it totally killed the crabs and the bed bugs leave me alone too!

Seriously though, some folks don't even consider things like that. I was showing the mister to a guy camped next to me and he mentioned he had a sprayer at home. I was like: this is a virgin tank. Only ever had water in it.

My cousin strapped a big orange gatorade cooler to the top of his subaru and we used it as a quick rinse off. A little dr bronners soap and a friend to hold up a tapestry, and you could even do a pretty refreshing shower... FOR FREE.




Like this, but this is set up for travel, when in use, the orange cooler goes where the nalgene bottle is sitting.

He also can convert the cargo area into a covered wagon style sleeping area -

As far as the pay showers go, it's 200° in there, the water is always freezing, and theres a long line. I prefer his meathod.

whenever showering outside, please remember to use an eco friendly, biodegradable soap... All that suave and dove sh#t are bad for mama earth!

I'm a big dr bronners fan, but theres all sorts of different brands.

i just get the shower bags and toss em on top of the car. no need for the shower tent, just the water and hose. I'm not really trying to take the same level of shower I take after work before getting a drink and talking to some ladies, just rinse the dust off my hair and face and the fromunda cheese... fromunda

I do the same thing, even though I have the shower tent setup. It just gets too hot in those things, even with the sun shade off.

*To the first time solar shower bag users,*Do NOT leave your solar shower bag on top of you car, unless you enjoy scalding hot showers on a 100 degree day, (while most likely having a sunburn) LOL

EDIT: I like to keep mine UNDER the car, in the shade.
