    Default Anyone knowledgeable on generators?

Was thinking about taking a small generator, but I know nothing about em like if they make them small enough to take camping with you. If so, what size or (kw???) would you recommend and any idea on the price of renting one for the weekend?

The FAQ states that only 1500W or less generators are allowed.

Personally, I think gas powered generators can be a bit annoying to your good neighbors (especially if you are not in RV camping. You can, however, get either a jumpstarter or a power supply (basically a battery with a handle on top) that you can plug things into. I always bring a jump starter to plug in fans, charge cell phones, etc. Never had it run out of power in the four days of a festival.

I agree about the noise and your tenting neighbors, not fun for them no matter how small. not to mention danger of fumes and carbon monoxide around small living spaces like tents. I think the jumpstarter thing works best for most stuff a tenter could want.

agreeing with the above people. Don't bring a generator, people die from enough stupid things, and I hate reading those stories of "camper dies from generator being too close to their tent"

1500 watts is plenty for the typical tent camper. Check the decibel rating at 50% power and max power to get an idea of how loud it will be. If you bring a battery and inverter too you can run your generator at times when it will be the least obtrusive and then use the power from the battery when you need it. Get a deep cycle battery if you can. Your neighbors will be very willing to put up with a bit of a din if you make them a ****tail with your blender after. I also think the noise from the giant Wakarusa generators running the huge lights are far far more obtrusive than any personal generator.

What type of power station do you have? Would you happen to know how many hours per day you used it, best guess will work? I was planning on buying one for around a 100$ and using it for 4-5 hours in the mornings to power a box fan, or portable homemade air conditioner

I have an older version of this:

    http://www.acehardware.com/product/i...ductId=3918487

I have had phones charging on it all day (6-8hrs) for four days, and still had enough juice left to charge my dead car battery at the end of the fest. (Bonnaroo 2010) It's pretty handy to have.

Nice. I was gonna get one by the same company on amazon. Powering a box fan shouldn't take much since they don't use much power for the motor. Thanks for the help. I'm looking forward to the extra sleep in the mornings. I might make one of these
