Default the king of surf rock in Omaha tomorrow!

anyone in the area needs to get down to the Waiting Room and check out Dick Dale!

Dick Dale (born Richard Anthony Monsour on May 4, 1937) is an American surf rock guitarist, known as The King of the Surf Guitar. He experimented with reverberation and made use of custom made Fender amplifiers, including the first-ever 100-watt guitar amplifier.[1]

Dale is often credited as one of the first electric guitarists to employ fast playing scales in his playing. Dale himself was a surfer and wanted his music to reflect the sounds he heard in his mind while surfing. While he is primarily known for introducing the use of guitar reverb that would give the guitar a "wet" sound, which has since become a staple of surf music, it was Dale's staccato picking that was his trademark. Since Dale is left-handed, he was initially forced to play a right-handed model but then went to a left handed model. [5] However, he did so without restringing the guitar, leading him to effectively play the guitar upside-down (while Hendrix would restring his guitar), and he often played by reaching over the fretboard rather than wrapping his fingers up from underneath

When Dale plugged his Fender Stratocaster guitar into the new Showman Amp and loudspeaker cabinet, Dale became the first person on earth to jump from the volume scale of a modest quiet guitar player (on a scale of 4) to blasting up through the volume scale to TEN! That is when Dale became the "Father of Heavy Metal" as quoted from Guitar Player magazine. Dale broke through the electronic barrier limitations of that era![7]
also, as a bonus, the Benson First Friday Art Walk will be going on. I'll be there with my Capoeira crew rocking out and jumping around in the crazy heat from 7:30-8:30pm about a block away from the Waiting Room.

Got to see him in the 90's. Blew us away. His son (I think he's his drummer now)was about 3, got up and kept pretty good time!

about to scarf down some dinner, rush off to my african drumming rehearsal, then head straight over to Benson. i think today might be one of the hottest of our already ridiculous hot days...someone might have to scrape me and my capoeira crew off the ground after we melt into the pavement. just make sure you fling my melted flesh in the direction of the waiting room. maybe that way dick dale can perhaps un-melt my face.
