    Default Info on Lawrence?

Need any tips on Lawrence? Navigation, places to eat/drink, etc. Lived there for a few years while going to school so I'd be happy to be of assistance.

I'm glad you posted this, monodub. Hit me with everything you got; I like getting a little intel on new places. (Oh, and 5-O info would be greatly appreciated as well.)

Default some lawrence info from a local

    A few tidbits about Lawrence:

Cabs are available, but fairly uncommon. If that's your choice of transport, you'd best program a couple of numbers into your phone because it's not like they drive around looking for fares. You can also get a (very expensive--$50) cab ride to and from the airport:

    Kansas Transportation Services Inc - (785) 841-7321

    Safeway Midwest Transportation Corp - (785) 838-4500

    Midwest Transportation Service - (785) 838-4500

The concert grounds are <5 miles from downtown, by paved bike trail. A bike with baskets would allow you to get around in and outside of the venue. If you go to town, LOCK your bike. There are bike thieves everywhere.

The nearest gas station is at the entrance to the state park. There, they will have snacks, cigs and 2.3 beer, but not strong stuff. The closest grocery store and liquor store and brew pub are about 3 miles from the venue, on Clinton Parkway, which is also 23rd Street. Kansas liquor laws are tight and all beer at grocery stores/gas stations is near beer. Only liquor stores can sell real beer or other victuals. You cannot buy cigs at liquor stores and on Saturday night, liquor sales end at 11 PM.

Lawrence has a bus system that might be of help in getting around. Check out the links for the bus and the bike trail systems:

for trail info, look under other links:

There are also a number of great restaurants and coffee shops downtown, if you want a real meal at some point. Here are my favs--not too expensive, and yummy!

    Zen Zero
    Mirth Internet Cafe
    Z's Espresso
    La Parilla
    Milton's
    Free State Brewery

If you have specific questionsm post 'em and i'll try to offer up some info.

Any good places for a Burrito/Mexican in the town? That would be nice to at least have a good thing to eat to start my drive home.
I've got my plans in a ziplock bag, lets see how unproductive we can be.

La Parilla is downtown at 8th & Mass. One of my favorite places for sure! http://listings.pitch.com/gyrobase/D...sting?oid=5083
It's not the only Mexican place downtown, but by far one of the better ones in my opinion. There's another on the corner of Mass between 9th & 10th St., I don't know the name of it. I've never been there to recommend it though. Lawrence is full of great places to eat! See Punkin's post....it's full of good info!

    good mexican...el mezcal...one on 9th & iowa....the other on 23rd and iowa.

yes, la parilla, is the one on mass street

highly recommend free state brewery down on mass....great beer! food isn't too shabby either.

75th street brewery, despite the name, is on clinton parkway and they have good beer and food as well...quite a bit closer.

cabs although not super common, are available in lawrence. 785-842-taxi?
they will have buses running around as well.

There's a mexican place called LaFamilia that is terrific. Buck or two more than other places, but some of the best salsa I've ever had (regular, spicy, or sweet) and a tequila bar of 40+ tequilas. It's on the same block as the Bottleneck, across from Border's bookstore.

    Try the blue tacos.
