It can be a great funkin time if you are prepared. Read up on the forum topics, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
    Hope to see you there!

Yeah, just stay on the forums and you'll have a lovely family before you know it. That's what happened to me. This time last year, I was living in Mississippi and didn't even know Lawrence KS existed. Then I discovered the fest. Technically, I went alone last year, but I was not alone at any point during the fest. Just about everyone I hung out with, I met through the forum.

I'm prob going solo as well, although I'm from around Lawrence, so I know of plenty of people that are going. I'm really excited to meet up with my Waka Board family!!

I'm flying in, doing it solo. I find music trading is a good way to meet some like minded people. Any tips on where I should offer free live music by artists attending the festival? I did this on the Bonnaroo list a bunch of times.

If anyone wants to B&P or trade take a look at my extensive list at http://db.etree.org/subtlepuddle

I've gone to both Wakas solo, but I've bumped into old friends and made lots of new ones each year. Wakarusa is full of good people, so I'm sure that your campsite neighbors will be great.

Puddle---we've got a little tradition of Free Music Fridays here at the Waka forum, so that's a great place to start.

I go solo to fests quite a bit cause my friends are lame/broke all the time and its great, you got no where to be nothing to do, you can get lost all weekend. But the cool thing i find is that for one, you meet alot more people when you go solo and i also happen to meet alot of other people who came solo as well... Its kinda cool when you end up hanging out with a group of peeps who all came solo and ran into each other randomly hanging out, happens to me quite a bit...

As much as I love spending time with friends and family, I actually prefer going to festivals solo. It's a time I am absolutely free to follow my own bliss, see the shows I wanna see, leave at will if the band ain't grabbing me, jam when I want to, crash at odd hours, no obs, no strings. I always connect with someone cool. Just put yourself out there and go with the flow.

It's a bit of nostalgia for me, really, though I am more there to get turned on to new music. On one level it's like a tour without having to get on the highway every damn night, and a lot safer. Hell, I used to hitchhike coast to coast on Dead tour with nothing but a backpack and half my wits.

So, come on down, get down.

When I was younger I was too scared or self-conscious to go to concerts by myself, and I missed a lot of good music because of that. But I came to my senses a few years ago, and now I actually prefer to fly solo. You don't have to worry about your friends talking to you during the show, you're free to move around from place to place, and you don't have to worry about losing anyone or getting lost. Like the good Reverend said, \"Just put yourself out there and go with the flow.\"
