    Default Dillon, Hairy Apes etc.

Curious to see if Mike Dillon will be playing percussion w/ KDTU, and would like to lobby for the inclusion of any other Mike D vehicle, ie. Hairy Apes BMX, Malachi Papers, Critters Buggin, Garage a Trois, etc.
It's a long shot, but Billy Goat recently played a barn-burning reunion show in KC, and I'd certainly like to see another.
Regardless, it would be a shame if a semi-local funk hero and all-around freak like Mike didn't get his Wakarusa props this year.

I enjoyed the hell out of Hairy Apes BMX last year and hope they come back.

Mike Dillon has also joined the ranks of one of my all time ultimate super favorite bands...SECRET CHIEFS 3. Trey Spruance, formerly of Mr. Bungle, is the mastermind behind this insanely beautiful and complex project, and I was surprised as hell to find out that Dillon's part of it now. Secret Chiefs 3 used to be one band that touched on a bunch of different styles, mainly middle eastern, eastern european, surf rock, electronic music, techno, and the wonderful all encompassing avant garde/experimental. Now they have fragmented into 7 bands...a band of bands, each specializing in their own kind of style. For more info and some samples, go to http://www.webofmimicry.com/label.php?band=sc3

Critters Buggin blew my mind when I saw them at the New Music Seminar. Amazing stuff!!! And if Waka brought the Secret Chiefs...

    Default sweet!

According to HABMX website, they are playing Waka on Sunday! They still aren't included on the music lineup here...but according to jambase they are scheduled. Those guys were off the wall last time...with sit-ins of Cheme (20th Congress) on sax, Brian Haas (JFJO) on keys, and Stanton Moore (Galactic) playing some timbales...bring it on! I'm getting more and more pumped everyday...only two months to wait!

NICE. I just saw the Dead Kenny Gs (Skerik, Dillon, Brian Haas) at Davey's Uptown, on a Tuesday with no one there (where were you, KC?), and I would say it was one of the best shows I've seen all year. Where were the Waka street teams? Where was the CPJS posse? Literally empty show. Oh well, more boogie room for me. Everything those cats touch is gold.

I just can't do the late weeknights anymore. I think most of us in CPJS land are the same way, full time day job people. But the real problem is that this show was not promoted. It is hard for people to make it to a show that they don't know about.

As far as the Hairy Apes BMX I am all about that but I had heard the Mike Dillon was going to be in Europe during Wakarusa. If you hear otherwise PLEASE let me know.

I hear ya. Wednesday after the show was not easy for me. Not as young and resiliant as I used to be. Still, I was surprised at the turnout, given Mike's cult-figure status in KC. Jambase does say that HABMX plays Sunday, I would be interested to know if it's an error or if it's the real deal. Anyone with any info, let us know!
