    Default ryan adams

One name i haven't seen at all on this board as a potential waka artist is ryan adams. I went to his show at the lied center this fall and he surprisingly rocked pretty hard. I don't know if it would be realistic with his touring schedule or whatever but i know he has a couple new releases coming out and would love to see him this summer.

I would definitely second the Ryan Adams suggestion. He would fit in well with Wilco and co.

The Lied Center show was pretty sweet. Although, he seemed to be almost too messed up to play by the end of the show. But that was cool..cause I was too messed up to listen.

I heard that guy on the radio. This is not the kind of act I want to see at a fest.

He's got great lyrics, and tunes. He is amazingly proliphic, too, from Whiskeytown to 4 (at least) solo albums.

That being said, isn't he not touring for awhile because he fractured his wrist horribly falling off a stage in England?
Dude is messed up on substances, too, I think.

i can understand why you wouldn't think of him as a festival type artist after hearing some of his album material, however his live show was rockin, complete with some decent length jams and even a grateful dead cover with awesome dueling guitar solos to close the show

I'm inclined to agree w/ Critter, not because I don't like Ryan Adams (Whiskeytown was awesome), but because I think Waka has got the whole americana/alt. country/no depression/whatever you wanna call it thing pretty well covered this year, and I'd like to see new artists added that bring diversity to the lineup.
Let's not run the risk of turning this into a three day americana festival. I'm sure that would please a lot of people, but there's also a lot of us out here who wanna get our GROOVE on!

I do agree that some of his studio stuff would suggest that he doesn't fit the bill. Although, the \"fit the bill\" argument seems to contradict the underlying philosophy of these types of festivals. But regardless, he's alt country. It's the same style of music as Wilco. Wilco's not a jamband in the normative sense of the word. Nor is Son Volt or Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise. And finally, if all the John Mayer disciples (Ari Hest) can make these bills, I'm sure we can find room for Ryan Adams.

Oh, and Ryan Adam's arm has recovered. It is true. He did get so drunk that he fell off the stage while playing air guitar in Europe. However, that was more than a year ago and he is now touring again.

I figured it was time to revive the Ryan Adams thread. Now that he has been announced to perform at the Jammy's, I figured people might be more likely to buy into him fitting into this kind of festival. Besides, he's alt country. If you're going to have Wilco and Son Volt, and everybody's hoping for an Uncle Tupelo reunion, Ryan Adams would fit in perfectly.
