    Default Outside Magazine (RANT)

We'll today I received my first issue of Outside Magazine. I rarely read magazines, and I didn't this one. As I leafed through the pages I noticed really no articles, but instead advertisement after advertisement. I know this is how they make money, but I really cannot relate with this trendy script. I hope in the future some music related magazine gets involved with Wakarusa and gives out subscriptions. My rant for the day! No hard feelings, I'll put it in the rack by the ****ter!

The Relix subscription is still worth the price.

Honest Tune still has a good magazine as well ( though I read it online).

Outside was pretty cool about 10 years ago, but they have progressively turned more and more into a massive brochure for Columbia and North Face with stubbly-faced rugged models hanging from vertical cliff faces on every other page.

I have received Outside for about 14 years since I was in high school. Bog is right on. Used to be an excellent magazine. Cahill, Quammen, Krakauer, Junger, tons other great writers. About, I dunno, maybe 5-6 years ago it basically became Men's Fitness with North Face ads. I still subscribe out of habit. It still has some good articles, but it sucks fighting through ad upon ad upon ad to get to articles. That, and they stick eleventy hundred subscribtion post cards in each issue.

I was stoked to see Ben Harper on the this month's cover. Unfortunately there was only like a two paragraph caption. I'm convinced this is a corporate money laundering front because the cost of the magazine in the US is $4.95 and there are over 300 ads. Who in there right mind would purchase this rag? Hell, there are 11 ads prior to the features section.
