I honestly don't miss the Shakedown that much. Shackdown never meant the same to me after Jerry was gone. Nothing like getting food poisoning from dumpsterdived lettuce in a veggie burrito. However I do think there needs to be more food vendors than there have been in past years. We found ourselves driving into town after two days of eating greasy fest food for a decent meal.

What the hell bring it back! I forgot how good it felt to see people had built a Vince Welnick shrine after his passing. I still won't buy a veggie burrito!

As for the glass issue isn't that just a KS state law? Plus there is always someone selling their glass on the down low. I know many of the people that were selling marbles last year had additional pieces they would offer ya after you made a purchase. I bought like two marbles at Waka last year and I can't wait to get my Waka '08 marble.

Yeah, I found some real heady glass at some vendors this last year. You get invited into the VIP room if you don't look sketchy.

Glass just gets broken anyway, who cares.

[quote:ca370dfcf0=\"rabbitsounds\"]i do miss the guy skating around on his cooler swinging sammy smith 1 for 3 or 2 for 5....that is one thing that some vendors don't do....is swing deals...that's not to say it is all of them...but try to get a coke from one of the food vendors without the correct amount of money...and you will be turned away...

back in my days of the dead and phish...we would make enough cash selling soda and GC's...that then when someone was just plain thirsty and you knew they could not afford it...we would just \"kick down\" a coke..or a grilled chesses (cheesiest in the lot...two thick slices of cheese).

anyway....it is cooperate...and they have to pay to sell...so they have to make thier money back...but...it would just be nice to see those vendors giving away a little...i mean...really...1.00 for a can of coke is pretty crazy when you can get a 24 pack at Dillions for 7 or 8 bucks. It would be nice to see more dontations to those that needed....of course I know LunaChic420 will be in full swing at the Chomp this year with alot of others from a planet that is third from the sun!!!! btw....good to see your purple self on the board!!![/quote:ca370dfcf0]

Thankssss Rabbit. You are right, We will be out in full force, we will kick down deals when we can, we don't mind a little shakedown goin' on either...just not the hassle it was in '06...plus I heard alot more stories about theft in '06 than in '07 so the crackdown, while a bringdown when it happened, was really kinda good for the fest I say. As for food vending, thank goodness we sell stuff, because food vending costs alot more. Plus, as a local, I don't mind folks heading to town for a good meal, we got some good eats in Larryville.

(LOL) One time I was at a really small fest, and they had a sign that said Shakedown St. that led to the camping area. It only had one poll with a light that was close to the food vendor. We called it Brokedown Street (LOL)! So we broke out a small table and started doin our thing like pushin Waka flyers and what not. I guess the owners didn't like it, so they cut that one light out which left us in the dark. We still call that Brokedown street to this day! For anyone who was there (YODA! Damnit, let us through!) Good times! : )

I am on the fence on this issue because I've been on both sides. A real Shakedown is not the same as a vendor's row. To me, a real Shakedown street is the dirt in-between the vendors where shady or sweet deals can sometimes take place. However, people need to understand that at big festies like Waka, the vendors pay a lot and are required to take out huge insurance policies. If you want to freely vend and not worry about it, go to a Rainbow Gathering. No one's in charge, no ticket prices, and cash money is a no-no. (Caution- serious hippieness/nakedness going on at RGs.)

thanks for your input...it cleared things up for me because I am discovering that nearly every fest has an area called \"shakedown street\" I get it now...and yeah, I am all for the freedom allowed in barter and trade and sweet and shady deals...but as an attendee I don't want to feel hassled by anyone hawking their wares (authorized or unauthorized) and as a vendor I wanna make sure I get a sweet spot to hawk my wares...which is why I prefer vending in the concert area and seeing the other vending go on out in the campgrounds...although this year the decision was made for us to go ahead and set up two Waka booths, one inside, hopefully near the Revival tent, we like it there...and one in the campground....no matter what we are expecting an awesome crowd and excellent shows and we know that Madina will take care of us.

yeah...we passed that Vince memorial all weekend on the way back to our camp. i liked seeing it.

as for the shakedown...i say keep it away from the fest. one of my favorite things about last year was the absence of it. shakedowns just seem to draw an element of shadiness that doesn't really need to be there. my 2 cents.

I know what you mean... nobody likes being hassled by bums while roaming around in a downtown area, and the same goes for festivals. Sometimes, I feel like I'm being hassled by bums when walking a shakedown late at night.

Not just that, but I think that part of the reason for the '06 Bustarusa is because people think it's kosher to walk down shakedown and yell out names of certain items and think that won't draw attention to the culture.

That's what really ruined the idea of shakedown- some people don't understand the concept of \"low key\".
