My son turned ten years old as the lips were playing Do You Realize. He and his brother really enjoyed the show. Their blinking LED necklaces were especially relished during the Flaming Lips -- go figure.

The Flaming Lips seem to embody that mid-western weirdness many of us are familiar with. I think they should visit Lucas Kansas to see the Garden of Eden.... were you can view a dead body encased in glass.... housed within a concrete pyramid on the grounds of a hundred year old grassroots art installation.

I still sound like a 12 year old boy because of the FLips show this year! I screamed and sang so much. Being right up front in VIP was amazing! All the energy that they were giving off and the crowd was giving back seemed to hover right over VIP.
Funky B you are the bravest woman I know! I knew the naked ladies were coming (I cheated and watched a little of the Summer Camp webcast) and wasn't too excited, but then I noticed a lady with long brown hair and something seemed familiar. All of a sudden I had a HOLY CRAP thats Funky up there moment! Your face was pure bliss and freedom.

    Hey good folks,

need your help here. We've heard from a couple of different sources that Wayne gave a shout out to Scotty our sax player and the band (Dirtfoot) while they were setting up. We didn't make it out to the set until after they started playing so didn't here the pre-show banter.

    Anyone else catch that?

    Thanks
    J

Didn't Scotty play a song or 2 with Galactic as well? I'm going to post this in the Pic and vid thread too, but since we are on the subject here it is...

    J,

I do remember hearing something on the lines of that.... I had some weird fungus starting to kick in, so I wouldn't trust me too much.

Yes, Scotty played Baker's Dozen with Galactic - one of the top highlights of the festival for me.

Didn't hear the shoutout by Wayne, though.....

    Pedro

Scotty did play with Galactic! He jammed on one of their last tunes and they gave us a shout for sure! We've already listened to the tapers copy of this a gizillion times and man did that kid blow!

I wish there was a copy of the Lips too, all the copies I've seen start when the music starts.

Thanks davewave. Thanks for this great thread that made me remember it. Heard it on the way to work and was really touched. Hope everyone, esp. FunkThompson & FunkyBegonia enjoys it too.

I think that seeing the \"same show\" has its merits. It's never really the same; that's part of the beauty of live music. My 1st time at Waka06, NYE 08 in OKC, Waka08, I was different each time and appreciated the subtle differences in the shows. Although some will say the FLips are rarely subtle!

Sorry, don't remember the start, had to meet DH, but it's really cool how Diiirrttfooot kept coming up all weekend!

I haven't posted since last year until I read the Flaming Lips complaint thread.

The \"press conference\" we had with Wayne was one of the highlights of the festival for me. His responses were always well articulated and funny. I loved how he would ask the interviewers themselves about their own opinions on the questions they were asking!
