    Default Tent air conditioner?

Has anybody used one of these?

It looks interesting for $80, uses ice and rechargeable batteries.

But the reviews say it goes through ten pounds of ice in an hour and a half in hot weather and leaks water all over you tent floor.

Can't say I've ever seen one like that, but I really question its effectiveness considering a tent doesn't provide any insulation to retain any cool air that might be generated. I mean, wouldn't it be like running the ac in your car with the windows down on a hot day?

I'll bet that tent retains more coolness than you'd think - especially if it's in the shade.

I've never seen one like that, but I have been tempted by this....

I was just looking at this on Amazon. It has terrible reviews as well. Although, some of the reviews were for a vehicle cabin. Since that is a basically a green house in the sun, it does not surprise me that it could not keep up inside a vehicle

I have a pop-up and it has A/C. Once you turn it off it warms up pretty fast but it is nice and chilly as long as it is running. I think that these things would work as long as you keep them running. If you get one and have Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeables (the only kind of batteries that I buy anymore) I will let you charge them at our upgraded campsite.

Lol if you have to have AC whilst camping you probably shouldn't be camping.

I must admit, at times it'd be nice to have that AC, but from what it sounds like, they're more trouble than it's worth.

    Default AC

I have AC in my Airstream and a bath & shower, I have kids. If I were once again tent camping festivals & Dead tours I would need a shower to nap in the tent or a hammock. Grungy & hot makes it hard to snooze. Anyone else at the Dead shows in Vegas in 1991-5? Had to bury my shoes after one year, they were so bad.

    I went in '92 (w/Steve Miller) and '95 (w/Dave Matthews).

That was plenty hot, but IIRC the run in 1994 (Traffic opener?) was the really bad one with temps over 120°. Crazy!

I have seen people take a really small AC and put it on a milk crate and cut a window in their tent and put the unit in. Then they just duct tape the AC to the tent. Works really well you just have to have electricity.
